Julia Holter Instagram – The passing of composer Yoshi Wada has hit me in many ways, as he was both a creative inspiration to me and the father of my partner Tashi. I’ve witnessed a beautiful symbiotic relationship between Yoshi and Tashi—how Yoshi’s life work and the artistic environment he surrounded himself with provided a fertile foundation for Tashi’s own artistic explorations and also ways of thinking about art, and in turn, how Tashi, in his adult life, has supported Yoshi’s work, through his label Saltern among other things, and collaborated with him in various settings—recordings, sound installations, and performances. While a lot of children of artists might choose another path, it’s great that Yoshi’s two children were encouraged enough by him, as well as by their artist mother Marilyn Bogerd, who took many of the great photographs of Yoshi’s work and also performed in his pieces, to both become artists—Yoshi’s daughter Manon Bogerd Wada is also an artist and sculptor.
