Chapter Six: The Picnic
Tom took me on my first proper picnic on New Year’s Eve 2023. That was one of the memories cemented in my brain as a pivotal moment in our love story. When we were talking about how we wanted our wedding day to look, having a morning ceremony followed by a Kiwiana picnic seemed like the perfect option for us.
The menu needed to be full of the foods we loved and that were special to us. Tom’s dad was a chef and a lot of the items on our menu were in memory of him.
The team at @kinlochwildernessretreat.nz were so amazing at pulling together our picnic menu and worked with some amazing kiwi vendors to make it all possible. The lovely Lisa from @la.social sung some of our family’s favourite songs. We had @no8distillery limoncello to represent our engagement. And @quartzreefwines bubbles for all our toasts 🍾
The menu :
mini asparagus rolls – a family fav for both of us!
angels on horseback – I think I at the majority of these on the wedding day!
cheese rolls – a nod to the South Island
bacon and egg pie – Reminds Kim of her Nana Joan
40 x coronation chicken sandwiches – like Tom’s dad would make
Waldorf Salad – walnuts, granny smiths, grapes, celery and mayonnaise
Rainbow Salad – carrots, beets, corn, avocado, tomato, lettuce, seeds
Porcupines with cheese and pineapple – a fav from our kids parties
Kiwi dip and crudites
Cheeseboard, Gathered Game and Artisan olives
European Bakery Bread – the best tasting bread ever! If you get the opportunity to try this you will understand our obsession! @europeanbakeryltd
Akaroa Salmon – the best salmon ever! A fav of both our families and one of the key things everyone keeps talking about from the wedding! @akaroasalmonnz
Patagonia Ice-cream and chocolate sauce – something we have for dessert most nights. This was the first item on the list when we started making a menu! Life is short, eat dessert first! @patagoniachocolates
