Kirby Instagram – @amirtalai sent this to me and @thisiscarlajimenez. This was my first ever series regular role (on a pilot that didn’t go to series), it was on @abcnetwork and I got to work with amazing actors who had more experience than me, but treated me with love and respect (not in this pic, but @marin.hinkle was also in the pilot). That was 9 years ago. (What you don’t see is) I booked this after years of not booking. Years of working as a barista/waitress/cater-waiter/PA/nanny/general hustler. Years of self-submitting/workshops/student films. Years of writing (and sometimes being able to film) my own stuff. Years of improv (this kept me sane and happy and connected to a community throughout). Years of self tapes/ voiceovers in my wardrobe/cutting my own reels/ trying to avoid scammy headshot photographers and acting classes (but still falling for a few). 9 years ago I had no idea what this industry is and how it all worked, but down the rabbit hole I went. This is long and rambling, but I guess what I’m saying is: things take time, 9 years isn’t a long time, but a lot can happen… and perhaps this is less of a public post and more a reminder to myself. | Posted on 16/Apr/2024 01:35:00
