We had an inspiring summertime playing live shows, figuring out some of the new songs when there are folks in front of you listening to them ( it’s kindof like getting new ears, you hear what you’re making in a bigger way, from a different perspective) , meeting you and sharing a live experience. I don’t mean to sound like a complete notice-box ( my mother’s word😂)….. but I always find it profoundly moving, the desire to communicate through music, through songs. We are going to do a couple more : 1–Oct 28th at 3pm ( in an unusual move this is an AFTERNOON show) in our beloved @coughlansbarcork and 2– Dec 16th in our equally beloved @ellokal_zh . Today I visited @togetheracademy_ie – which provides tailored training and employment opportunities for adults with Down Syndrome. They also run their own cafè as a social enterprise. Inspiring work underway with incredible learners and teachers. A real model for our country and our education system. Excited to help out in any way I can. The stark whitewashed walls and exposed beams make quite a contrast from the recent installation in St. Patrick’s Hall at Dublin Castle. The table is longer and narrower than the previous display- about 50′ long x 3′ wide. The proportions make me think of a laying out table, and also an exaggerated coffin. A haunting soundscape accompanies the installation. Composed by Kieran Kennedy, it is layered with sounds of the sea, church bells and the cawing of crows, with vocals by Maria Doyle Kennedy, and a segment of The Parting Glass by the Voice Squad. It evokes love, loss and sadness. These works are part of the annual Shorelines Arts Festival in Portumna, September 15th- 18th. www.shorelinesartsfestival.com/ On show until October 28th, open daily, Monday- Sunday.
