Melody Thornton Instagram – It’s lovely that over the generations people have invested in the ways their child’s brain works. When I was in school you had to play it off as best as you possibly could if you didn’t process at the same rate as your classmates. Not just to protect yourself from bullying and being made fun of but also because there wasn’t a solution. You were “slow” or you weren’t. (Pls excuse my use of this ancient term.) I couldn’t read for the longest time. It was awful. I was only asked once if the words moved as I was reading. I didn’t know what they meant. As an adult I read daily. I can control my environment more as an adult but as a child I couldn’t. You’d think people would have considered “is this child traumatized or is the home life difficult.” Nope there weren’t answers. I’m so glad times have changed and children have a safer place to grow academically. Maybe all of us adults can come together to protect them from gun violence as well. That’s a thought. Everyone absorbs info in different ways. I’m not sure the threat of violence will help w concentration. I think teachers having guns will result in students being killed by their teachers when they “mistake” a cellphone for a handgun. What are we doing y’all?
