I am a practitioner of prayer. This scene in the Jerrod Carmichael Reality Show was quietly brutal. He held his mothers hands as she prayed for him not to be gay. Though I understand it was not her intention but the experience seemed emotionally spiritually violent. My prayer for all families, friends allies during PRIDE month – we intentionally listen, learn do better 👉🏽 PRIDE progress 🌈 the smallish town of my ancestors- Sumter SC is having its 2nd Celebration “Love is Love” a place where the stains of segregation are still fresh “I thought this could never happen in my lifetime” several family members have said. Today I met a Black Cowboy with a 90 acre ranch, 27 years he’s hosted a Black Cowboy Festival, 3000 people came to Rembert SC this weekend, on this land he now owns shares his wife’s ancestors were enslaved worked to death. Yesterday I went to an Iris Festival at Swan Lake, smelled the summers first magnolias met a swan named Sue. Friday my sister friend family celebrated her son, a Sumter High scholar prom king. Larry Levan of The Paradise Garage snuck in as a teen continued to come his whole career, a young Frankie Knuckles of the Warehouse in Chicago also came to hear the purity unconventional genius of Dave Mancuso – and his revolutionary sound system (DJ Tito modeled the famous ClubHouse in DC after The Loft) and nowhere on earth did the kids dance like they did at The Loft. I’m watching @feudfx at the part where the Maysles brothers are following filming Capote. It returned me to the conversation I “moderated” with @anthonybourdain Albert Maysles (his hero) – afterwards there was a party @mayslesdocumentarycenter I danced with Albert all night to @djstorminnorman – he was 87. And we laughed. His departure made sense, Bourdain not so much, I miss snarky ass, brilliant Tony.
