Let’s get back to having conversations. This is entirely accurate. Cancel culture has become just another fear driven form of bullying and has the potential to destroy art and free expression. This is where the seeds of fascism often begin. Building communities that can hold one another accountable, to educate, grow and evolve together is a much kinder way to live. It doesn’t take a great degree of intelligence to attack and dismiss a person and potentially destroy their entire life and their family. Having a supportive conversation and dialogue takes more effort but that’s what builds fearless and thriving communities. There are times where healthy communities must hold certain healthy boundaries and band together to create change by calling behaviors out, but spewing vitriol over social media at a person from the safety of your IPhone takes little courage nor accurate recounting and yet that nonsense can destroy lives and careers. Cancel, cancel culture.
If only we made ourselves worthy of and knew the full value of this kind of convicted, empathic leadership. Bernie Sanders speaking out and reminding us of the first 3 words of the Constitution. “ We the people”. Reminding us of the 1st amendment. Free speech, the right to assemble and the right petition the government. Protect those who fight for equality and the protection of the innocent. End all hatred including all bigotry and anti-semitism. It’s time to build a world of peace and justice for all.
