8 days til our @netflix debut! here we have a between takes moment with @stephenbarrington who plays Dominic, my brother. Stephen has incredible range I had seen his work in the web series I developed/produced — Rider and Hello Cupid so when it came down to cast Jezebel his was a straight offer— he put himself on tape but that was just for kicks I knew he was the one! Stephen really became my brother on and off set and I love this guy so much. Can’t wait for you to see his work! #jezebelmovie @arraynow @strongblacklead
COUNTDOWN!!! 10 DAYS until #jezebelmovie lands on @netflix! This film was made with the love and care of Black Women — look at our producers and star of the film. Just— wow. It’s not enough for me to say I couldn’t have done it without them. Last night we watched the Golden Globes while celebrating our movie. These women did not have to step up and give their whole beings to this story but they did. We didn’t think about odds being against us— no, we are larger than odds! Left to right we have WINTER @itswinterdunn – when I tell you she put out fires before fires started — she handled everything like a boss and she’s hilarious and kept me sane! Then we have VICTORIA @vhamiltonofficial I should call her doctor – she healed – she was the anchor of our set and the first to arrive with me to Las Vegas for our one day of prep there. TIFFANY. @tiffanytenille you’ll all come to know her breath taking performance soon and what a treat she is. and FRANCES @franisart I think she had about 5 different jobs she’s an artist and applies a beautiful sensitivity to everything she touches. this image will always be one of my favorite on set. Im a low key DP I shot & lit a lot of my early work on super 8mm and I love being as close to my actors as possible. I don’t like being in the damn village high up on the chair staring at the monitor — I want to be in it! That’s not always possible though (or safe) so I learned to also develop & love the craft of intimacy with the monitors & I have my own obsession with it now. I don’t know what set life really looks like going forward but I’m not mad at somewhat smaller sets and french hours I’ve been pushing for the 8/10 hour day since my web series days 😂 mostly I just miss being there. On set is my favorite place to be – on stage / in the theatre is a very close second. movie magic theatre magic ahhhhh we shall return. soon.

first I was told that I COULDN’T direct. Then I was told that I SHOULDN’T direct. I directed anyway. Sometimes that voice was me. I was told that this story didn’t matter or that it would matter more if the cast had “names” or it weren’t so “small”— we’ll catch you on your next film— was told that dozens of times. WHEW. I feel the tension just recalling it. Along the way though — thanks to my guardian angels and my deep friends I came back around to who I am. The girl in this picture – brown skin off beat girl who was always an artist and just didn’t have the name for it. My sister @msliviaperrier knew it and supported it with all of her being — becoming my producing partner to tell this story — a story that belongs to us both— from there so many joined and committed their work artistry and $ to see this film blossom. and today our theatrical run began with a @netflix release date just days away. Thank you @Ava and @arraynow forever and always! January 16 join me in seeing a slice of my life. A story that reveals so much of what it means to enter Black Womanhood — what it means to mother your sister and have your sister mother you— all while living in a studio apartment in the underbelly of Las Vegas … I’m smiling big and feeling a carnival of emotions!
