Numa Perrier Instagram – first I was told that I COULDN’T direct. Then I was told that I SHOULDN’T direct. I directed anyway. Sometimes that voice was me. I was told that this story didn’t matter or that it would matter more if the cast had “names” or it weren’t so “small”— we’ll catch you on your next film— was told that dozens of times. WHEW. I feel the tension just recalling it. Along the way though — thanks to my guardian angels and my deep friends I came back around to who I am. The girl in this picture – brown skin off beat girl who was always an artist and just didn’t have the name for it. My sister @msliviaperrier knew it and supported it with all of her being — becoming my producing partner to tell this story — a story that belongs to us both— from there so many joined and committed their work artistry and $ to see this film blossom. and today our theatrical run began with a @netflix release date just days away. Thank you @Ava and @arraynow forever and always! January 16 join me in seeing a slice of my life. A story that reveals so much of what it means to enter Black Womanhood — what it means to mother your sister and have your sister mother you— all while living in a studio apartment in the underbelly of Las Vegas … I’m smiling big and feeling a carnival of emotions!
