Centring this discussion in the through line of belonging – the perennial question we face as humans and live as artists who seek defiance of boundaries, a notion which today arises often (as the world grapples with its increasingly stoked divisions) – felt natural.
Something about our journey of words and mutual storytelling was truly transcendent, the energy in the room getting deeper and truer as we interrogated our values, dove into the inheritance of our histories and laughed together as community…
Community. Perhaps the most nurturing aspect of my life as an artist. It’s the piece of belonging capable of knocking on the doors of hearts and prying them open. Maybe this is why we were so safely able to journey into the bylanes of Bombay together & touch on my early adulthood spent in India as an Australian, an actor and a seeker of belonging: an experience which I revere for both its wisdom and ferocity.
