Gaza update: Today I stood up to challenge the The Prime Minister. He has been a silent bystander while Israel tramples on international humanitarian law, brutally killing and starving Palestinian women, children and aid workers. The Prime Minister won’t stand up and take action to save Palestinian lives and today I used my platform to challenge him. Every innocent life is sacred. #PMQs.

Yet again, our Government are stooping lower than we could have thought possible and are trying to scrap mental health support for our #NHS heroes. They work for us tirelessly and selflessly, under constant pressure, often in the most difficult of circumstances. As an A&E doctor, I know all too well the toll that this takes on our frontline workers. After the hardship of the pandemic, after real-terms pay cuts, after budget cut after budget cut, the very least that NHS staff should expect from their Government is accessible, high-quality mental health support when they need it. Instead, they’re saddled with this shower of Tories, who have cut funding right to the bone for mental health resources. Today, the Health Minister refused to assure me that funding for support services will be extended behind the 12 month period they’ve committed to. I would like to see the Minister join me on a shift at St George’s, look my colleagues and friends in the eye, and explain why the Tories think they don’t deserve support through an NHS crisis of his Government’s own making. This is simply shameful.

Just been reminded by my friend @this_is_bobbins, that 8 years ago today, my life changed forever when I was selected as the Labour Candidate for Tooting in the by-election. It was all so fast and at the time, all I had was scrubs and maternity jeans! @moniqueachery had to do an emergency trip to Zara for me. This photo is me making my speech to the masses in a bid to get selected 😂. What an honour it’s been to serve the community that raised me ❤️.

It was amazing to be out across Tooting yesterday talking to voters on the doorstep. So many positive responses showing local people are ready to kick the Tories out of government.
No one should die of an eating disorder in 2024. It was humbling and inspiring to join my friend @hopevirgo_ to speak at the #DumpTheScales march to Parliament Square today. Eating disorders are too frequently misunderstood or dismissed, with sufferers of conditions such as anorexia and bulimia unable to access the right care. The Government’s attitude towards eating disorders must fundamentally change. They must listen to campaigners and experts, like Hope, to break down stigmas around eating disorders, resolve misconceptions and ensure everyone with an eating disorder is able to access the care they need.
Pictures like this from Khan Younis show the bitterly horrifying scale of death and destruction being inflicted by Israel on Gaza. As we well know, the majority of those killed have been women and children. The UK must immediately suspend arms exports to Israel and pressure the Netanyahu government to end this siege, allow more aid in and stop the famine from escalating to truly catastrophic levels.

I have always promised myself that no matter how triggering, I would use my platform to raise awareness of issues that matter and try and use my experiences to fight for change. They are 11 times more likely to be given a restrictive community treatment order. Families are being torn apart and lives are being lost. This discrimination must end – there must be change. We simply cannot allow these burning injustices to continue any longer.

Says it all really… This is the terrible, tragic reality of the war in Gaza – a daily death toll higher than the conflicts in Afghanistan, Iraq, Sudan, and Ukraine put together, and greater than any conflict in the 21st century. The international community has no interest, plan or backbone to stop the wholesale slaughter of innocent Palestinian civilians. Not even the indiscriminate killing of British aid workers has made Rishi Sunak finally say enough is enough. It is absolutely shameful that they are standing idly by while tens of thousands of innocent people have lost their lives. We must stop arms exports to Israel and hold the Netanyahu government to account.
