Repost from @matthewsciarappa ✨✨✨ • Mostly because of this very cute @vintageanchorbooks tote, I decided to reread THE HOUSE ON MANGO STREET by Sandra Cisneros and found it to be more charming than ever. 🥭🖊️ #TheHouseOnMangoStreet is voicey and sweet, filled with childlike wonder, mischief, and curiosity. It’s told in bite-sized chapters that serve almost as isolated stories—little anecdotes from a delightfully misfit cast of characters always peripherally aware of the harsher socioeconomic undercurrents running between their narrative lines. The punchy dialogue and down to earth humor carry you from page to page. Occasionally, a much darker story beat will stop the rhythm like a catch breath, lingering just long enough to reorient you and remind you how coming-of-age, even for characters as sassy and spirited as this, is more complex than a collection of your best or most awkward memories. Love this little book. Such a treat to revisit it. . . #TeamPRH

Repost from @shannonrwatts • NEW PODCAST EPISODE: I had the honor of talking with Sandra Cisneros (@officialsandracisneros) a prolific poet, author, and artist. Her book, “The House on Mango Street,” which was published in 1984, has gone on to sell over six million copies and is required reading in schools across the world. Recently, Sandra published her first book of poetry in 28 years called “Woman Without Shame,” a brilliant collection of songs, elegies, and declarations about womanhood. Join us for a conversation about how guilt and shame can make women stay small, how the darkest episodes of our lives can actually be divine guidance that takes us down new and important paths, and all the ways aging liberates women to own their gifts and share them with the world.
