Sanna Marin Instagram – This week I had the great honour to participate in the Asian Leadership Conference in Seoul. In my speech, I highlighted the importance of strong social structures that boost equality and women’s participation in working life and decision-making. Another part of my speech focused on geopolitics, the war in Ukraine, and what democracies have to learn from the crises we have witnessed in recent years.
There are many things that we as societies can do to build a more equal future for everyone. In Finland and other Nordic countries, affordable and high-quality education for all has been a key element for better and more equal societies, and it has also been crucial to our countries’ competitiveness.
From the perspective of women’s participation, there are three things I want to underline. First, good public daycare that is affordable for every family and that prepares children for their educational path. Second, an equal and high-quality education system with free school lunch and after-school activities. And third, parental leave structures that enable women to pursue their careers and fathers to equally take care of their young children.
