What I love the most about these pictures is how Happy they are. And at that moment, there was no pretense, no noise, no rush- just happiness, bliss and heart to heart chatter. To be able to join the real heroes of Darjeeling’s hills – the women tea pluckers – in song, dance and some tea picking at the Makaibari Tea Estate was a real treat of sorts. They are the warmest humans you will ever meet – hard working, tenacious and strong. I joined them at Makaibari’s Chungi plantation – a phenomenal landscape of the best tea you will find. The dry leaves of the Second Flush Muscatel are typically dark brown with hints of gold tips. The a liquor is a rich amber/golden and it tastes sweet, fruity notes reminiscent of muscat grapes, with floral undertones. To be able to taste the tea later plucked with my own hands was a phenomenal feeling – it tasted smooth, mellow body with a prominent muscatel taste, with hints of grape. Subtle notes of apricots or peaches, with light astringency and a smooth finish. Have you tried Makaibari’s sumptuous second flush Darjeeling Muscatel that is in harvest now?

It’s lush green for as far as you can see. Dwarf tea bushes – fresh and healthy – dotting the landscape fading into a horizon interspersed with mountains and dense forest. Being in a Makaibari tea garden is like being in a gigantic meditation room – so quiet, so peaceful – its almost as if the sound of your heartbeat is an unnecessary intrusion. I stood still, as the low clouds rose from behind me and immersed me in a trance – engulfing my soul into a willing impasse. #makaibariteaestate #makaibari #tea #teagarden #gardentotable #green
