This is my grandmother.
She hated sewing and doing all the girlie stuff girls were put to do back then.
She loved sports, was adventurous and humorous. Yet, she was a woman of her time and did what was expected of her; eventually she got married to my marvelous grandfather and had two kids.
She did cook, she did sew and she seemed happy with her life, but I think she deep down wondered what else could have been in store for her curious self. 🐒
I wonder, too; what she’d do and be if she had the same possibilities as I’ve had? 🤔
It’s easy to forget that this was not long ago, and sadly different kinds of injustice and oppression are still happening to girls and women around the world. The fight is not over, not at all!
But as I look at all the strong, badass women out there, doing what they can with what they have to pave their way for new generations of fierce girls…I’m proud and optimistic. ❤️
I like to think that my grandmother would be happy for me and my sisters if she saw all the possibilities we have that she didn’t have. Let’s use them well!
More than anything we are humans, individuals with dreams and hopes no matter what gender we were born as.
And we all deserve to feel safe, loved and heard.
Right, grandma? ♥️
