This man takes brick bats from all quarters – with dignity, patience and the odd ‘ho hum’ but always the kindest smile. He’s driven me mad for years too – never talk to him about technology, travel planning ( he still thinks you change onto the victoria line at King’s Cross not Finsbury Park) or timekeeping. He’s also now Poppa – a man who can find wonder and silliness in any space for the benefit of my adoring kids and all of us too. No matter how old I get I will always feel like shouting – as I did when I saw him performing on stage much to my mum’s horror – ‘that’s my daddy’ whenever I see him because I am so proud to be his daughter.
He and my mum have been cheerleader and pisstakers in equal measure for me all my life and as a result they taught me to love, live and laugh well – my heart goes out to everyone missing their dads today and looking forward to arguing with this one later about whether what’s app or signal better.
