To mark the closing week of Acts of Creation at @ArnolfiniArts, head to Bristol, England on May 22 for an opportunity to hear writer and curator @HettieJudah in conversation with artists @Leni_Dothan (slides 1,2,3), @Fani_Parali (slides 4,5,6,7) and Jessa Fairbrother (slides 8,9,10). 👊 If you cannot attend on Wednesday, at least follow these amazing artists to get to know their incredible work. I so wish I could be there! But MOTHERLOAD is on the walls. ❤️ Next stops: 🇬🇧 @MAC_Birmingham, Millennium Gallery, Sheffield and @DCADundee. ✨ Many images by @LisaWhitingPhotography for Arnolfini. 🧡🙏🏻 and ps: @jessfairbrother

Many of the artists and artworks now on view in New Terrain are eagerly, pointedly creating a new landscape tradition for an era in which the idea of the American nation is being broadened, when climate change threatens life, and when our experience of nature is more separated from the land itself than at any time in our history.

This Saturday, the closing weekend of “Acts of Creation: On Art and Motherhood,” at 14:30-16:30, a film version of Bobby Baker’s DOGME will be screened, followed by a talk by Baker herself. Originally intended as a one-off performance work to make sense of the first eight years of motherhood, Baker’s “Drawing on a Mother’s Experience” (1988) gained widespread critical acclaim and went on to be shown multiple times over the next 12 years. Having learned caution as a mother and the ability to think ahead, the performance sites @bobbyartistbaker as a meticulously prepared action painter, who has substituted oil paint and canvas for a double bed sheet and various foodstuffs. Poking fun at her male predecessors (artists such as Jackson Pollock, Willem de Kooning and others). @LaimaLeyton will present an intimate iteration of her performance ‘Home’, focused on motherhood and domesticity. Using lights, sound, synthesizers and spoken word, Leyton will invite the audience to reflect upon love, existence, care, life, and death. Expect a sonic, immersive, thought-provoking live performance. It kicks off at 18:00 – come visit the Arnolfini in Bristol to see this wild show! 🇬🇧 Leyton is also a mother, a music producer and part of the Belgian band Soulwax .
