I’ve been MIA for the last month. It’s been a lot of heavy life and death stuff. Two father figures left this Earth. I still can’t really talk about or discuss it. My heart breaks too much and I must stay the course. But, I found this photo at my father’s home. I remember my grandmother taking me to Sears to get this photo. The crossed legs. The hands. The uneven braids. I look at that little girl with her brighteyes and her smile and I am reminded what a strong little one she was amidst all that was going on around her at that time. I am reminded that my brothers and sisters were also strong little ones and are now strong and loving big ones. I am so grateful for the love we have for one another and the healing that is happening for us through our loss. Today, on this day of my birth, I am reminded that life is for living, for smiling, for crying, for feeling all the feels and for learning and growing. It’s for sharing love and doing our best amidst the chaos. It’s for love. Love. Today I wish this little girl and the big one she has grown into a happy birthday. I’m glad she’s still here trying to figure things out and has the chance to share love with others. Happy birthday Tam Tam. Another trip around the sun. I feel so grateful to get to work with the incredible grassroots rescue @therealbark. They are a small dog rescue organization that do incredible work for our animals. This beautiful blind baby girl Norah was left behind at the shelter by some other “rescue” when they chose to take all of her siblings but not her. Why? Because she is special. Because she can’t see the way others do. But boy can she hear and feel and taste and smell and LOVE!!! Norah is an extremely special little baby and one that is deserving of the best forever family who has patience and love to give her. She won my heart in the couple of days she stayed with me and quite frankly, the hearts of all she has met so far. HAPPY NEW YEAR!! Okay, so I made this right after I finished the butternut squash pastry. I don’t like wasting food and I had leftover phyllo/fillo dough. It was all ripped up, but I realized it didn’t matter. All you have to do is layer it and the beauty of it is that it still works even when it’s not all together. I like it even better that way. It’s like life. We mostly don’t have things all together. We do the best that we can with what we have. Beautiful (and delicious) things come from it! BEET, ONION, “CHEESE” TART: Phyllo/Fillo dough (store bought vegan) Boiled beets from Trader Joe’s Tofu Cheese (it’s the cubes but I just mashed it up. Check out old recipe in my reels) Thinly sliced onions Fresh Thyme Salt and pepper to taste Grapeseed oil Soy(or any plant based) milk to use between layer and on top as a wash It’s pretty self explanatory from the video, no?
