Under Peter Dutton it’s a fast track for nuclear, and the slow lane for renewables. Our government is getting on with the job of making Australia a renewable energy superpower, ticking off enough projects to power over 3 million Australian homes.
Fantastic news this morning – Labor will introduce a new Prac Payment for teaching, nursing and social work students.
ICYMI: Chowder Bay has some new residents! Last week we released 100 White’s Seahorses into the bay. Our government is restoring nature and better protecting our threatened species.
Eastern quolls have been extinct on mainland Australia since the 1920s. But now they’re back on Booderee thanks to a new enclosure that protects them from foxes, feral cats and other predators. Look at how adorable they are!
Today is World Environment Day. No government has done more for the environment than our government.
These endangered White’s Seahorses now get to call Chowder Bay their home. Yesterday we released 100 into the bay, with further releases to come. In funding projects like these, our government is restoring nature and bringing threatened plants and animals back from the brink.

A fantastic update on the rare red handfish. You might remember I made an emergency decision before Christmas to save this critically endangered fish. Well, after a successful rescue program, nearly a fifth of the population is back in the Tasmanian wild. Great news! Credit: Jemima Stuart-Smith @imas_utas
Too often when a woman is experiencing domestic violence, people ask ‘why didn’t she leave?’ They should be asking, ‘where would she go?’ Proud to support local services like @womens.girls.emergency.centre which are here to help #walkforwagec
I was invited to speak at this year’s OzWater conference. Australia is the driest inhabited continent and it’s so important our water is safe, clean and managed wisely, whether it’s for drinking, supporting our environment, farming, industry, or making our communities more liveable.
If you’re in Sydney this weekend, @lousplace_sydney fundraiser or the @womens.girls.emergency.centre walk are great ways to support women and children in our local area.
What better way to spend World Environment Day than with Dean and Brentyn from Yurruunngga Aboriginal Corporation. No one knows this land and sea like First Nations communities. We’ve got 65,000 years of traditional knowledge right here in Australia. We’re so lucky to have the world’s most successful environmentalists to learn from.
It’s World Oceans Day. We’re working hard to protect precious oceans and marine biodiversity right around the world. Here’s just five ways we are helping: 1. Investing a record $1.2 billion to protect the Great Barrier Reef. 2. Tripled the size of Macquarie Island Marine Park – one of the biggest acts of conservation in the world. 3. Fought for and won a global commitment to protect 30% of land and oceans by 2030. 4. Half a billion in extra funding for Antarctic and Southern Ocean science in the budget. 5. Investing nearly $3 million to tackle deadly ghost nets. And there’s so much more.
We’re cleaning up the mess the Liberals and Nationals made of recycling. Now, valuable commodities like reprocessed plastic pellets will be able to be exported and made into new products, rather than ending up in landfill.
Antarctic blue whales have been almost impossible to find in the wild. Until now. Our incredible scientists have been able to get close enough to study, count and photograph these deep-sea giants. How special. Credit: BBC/Alex Vail, Dr Brian Miller. @ausantarctic
We want to unlock Australia’s potential to be a world leader in renewable energy. I’ve now ticked off 47 renewable energy projects including a huge new solar farm near Toowoomba. These 47 projects will generate enough renewable energy to power over 3 million Australian homes. At the last election, Australians voted for progress on renewables. That’s exactly what Labor has delivered.
