Zhu Zhu Instagram – Mythe
This old apartment is where Miss Zhu Zhu used to live. As she grew up and moved out to embrace a new life, this abandoned space was invaded and occupied by other little creatures. Over time, these small creatures have improvised and left their marks on her belongings, gnawing on various fabrics, food residues, shed hairs, and dead skin.
Different materials attract a wide range of small organisms with distinctive body structures, appearances, habits, and possibly social networks. In this micro-universe, they may have formed their colonies and ways of interaction, just as human beings do. Thus, the cycle of life has been extended in this former human dwelling.
Titled Myth, this art event is co-authored with the artist TAN Buru and serves as a sequel to ZHU Zhu’s Flea Market event held at the beginning of this May. The Chinese name (衣娥, Yi E, Clothes Miss) of Mythe arose from an unexpected yet fortunate typo, as 蛾 (moth) and 娥 (pretty young miss) are homophones. What are debris and clothing scraps to humans are sanctuaries to moths and their larvae.
They are instinctive and ingenious ’Arte Povera‘ artists. Their local creations using waste establish a cross-species connection with human beings. Their natural, personal lives spin a continuous story of human history. They weave and connect the traces and marks of human existence without a directional, autobiographical narrative or message.
This non-human perspective presents us with an opportunity to reflect on the anthropocentric mindset. | Posted on 26/May/2024 07:28:18
