Brit Marling Instagram - it’s taken us 3 1/2 years to tell our next story from script to screen and it was a wild ride. i got hypothermia. then covid. twice. there were dust storms, blizzards, and 40 mph wind gusts sent our 4k lights rolling down the mountains. everyday felt like scaling a vertical cliff face but it was also an adventure with the most extraordinary people that I will remember for the rest of my life. and more often than not the fates conspired for us to capture something wild and alive to share with y’all… well, you’ll let us know…🕊️ @amurderattheend . we’ve missed you. keep your eyes peeled…

Brit Marling Instagram - Reflecting back… it was wild we made A MURDER AT THE END OF THE WORLD during a global pandemic, supply shortage, hit head on by the climate crisis in the snows of Iceland and flash floods of Utah. Shooting is always hard. But shooting in a time where there is a “worldwide shortage of production accountants” — that’s another kind of hard entirely. But we got through. Though I’m not sure if you asked on any given day — say when one of us had a 102 degree Covid fever far from home, or, in my case, when I was on an IV in a remote mountain hospital unable to keep any food down from severe hypothermia — if we would have said it was worth it. It was an impossible story to tell. And the production challenges pale in comparison to the challenges of writing, directing and editing a story that wanted to make the beautiful young woman whose essential macabre death opens and supercharges nearly every murder mystery into the detective instead.

Maybe that’s why it’s particularly moving to be included in @latimes Envelope of contenders. To be in the company of other storytellers and artists we’ve long admired. And to feel like — while it was a wild ride — we made something genuinely subversive that landed. That found a harbor.

Brit Marling Instagram - A gathering of photos of some of the remarkable crew that made A MURDER possible…

1. Leifur Dagfinnsson of @truenorth_nordic - our incredible Icelandic producer. We got on these snow mobiles and went 20 min across a frozen lake to set.
2. @charlottebruuschristensen @adigerlando and I sorting out where to place the VFX portion of the hotel in Deplar Valley
3. @alexhgayner, Jason, Charlotte and Zal scouting near Ray’s Tavern for a location within walking distance to shoot Darby and Bill’s wake-up in the El Camino so we could make the day
4. JB Rogers — our AD who literally held the set together with his acumen and his dark humor. the only man who can make me laugh when we have one hour left to shoot and must light a wall on fire with SFX team.
5. From the incredible camera department — Gavin, Mickey, Tamara (script sup), Austin, Charlotte, Andy, Kathryn (assoc producer), and Adam — we are 2 tequilas in and have been dancing for an hour post wrap ;)
6. Josh and Daniel — working double time because when I was directing there was never proper time to do Hair and MU to play Lee
7. @graymeganbowman and I on the hottest day of the summer in a parking lot we transformed into Six Flags with VFX
8. The gang at our Utah spot River Rock Inn with owners Tracy and Greg who made us a breakfast of champions every morning to face a 12 hour day
9. @dbholland (co-producer), Kathryn Moïse and I try to increase blood flow in the trailer after 16 hours on our feet
10. The entire editorial team — wild talents all of them — Blair, Blake, Rachel, Tavis, Chris, Kathryn, Lana, Mike, Cassandra, Will, Derek, Josh, Kara — and maestro Dylan Tichenor beside Zal and me.

these are just some (by no means all) of the artists and master craftspeople who worked tirelessly behind the scenes to achieve a very ambitious story...

these are just some (by no means all) of the artists and master craftspeople who worked tirelessly behind the scenes to achieve a very ambitious story...

Brit Marling Instagram - we wrote A MURDER AT THE END OF THE WORLD during the height of the pandemic, so many of the writers in the room met IRL for the first time at the WGA awards on Sunday. Thank you to @wgawest @wgaeast for the nomination for best limited series. It was the first time we all got to be around a real table together. The only person missing was Dominic Orlando — a writer who worked with us since OA I. He had a ferocious imagination and a laugh so wonderful it made you want to be funny for him everyday. He crossed over to the other side in 2021. But I think his spirit was around Sunday night. I think he was probably laughing.

A few images of the zoom room for A MURDER / the early collages I made above my desk while dreaming up Darby / the dogs that kept us sane through it all.

Brit Marling - 37.5K Likes - it’s taken us 3 1/2 years to tell our next story from script to screen and it was a wild ride. i got hypothermia. then covid. twice. there were dust storms, blizzards, and 40 mph wind gusts sent our 4k lights rolling down the mountains. everyday felt like scaling a vertical cliff face but it was also an adventure with the most extraordinary people that I will remember for the rest of my life. and more often than not the fates conspired for us to capture something wild and alive to share with y’all… well, you’ll let us know…🕊️ @amurderattheend . we’ve missed you. keep your eyes peeled…

Brit Marling - 20.1K Likes - Reflecting back… it was wild we made A MURDER AT THE END OF THE WORLD during a global pandemic, supply shortage, hit head on by the climate crisis in the snows of Iceland and flash floods of Utah.

Brit Marling - 20.1K Likes - Reflecting back… it was wild we made A MURDER AT THE END OF THE WORLD during a global pandemic, supply shortage, hit head on by the climate crisis in the snows of Iceland and flash floods of Utah.

Brit Marling - 17.7K Likes - we wrote A MURDER AT THE END OF THE WORLD during the height of the pandemic, so many of the writers in the room met IRL for the first time at the WGA awards on Sunday.
