Caption : Though I did not participate in the making of the seventh and now final season of Queen Sugar, I will always cherish portraying the woman I’ve poured my heart into for six years, known to the world as Charley Bordelon — as well as the opportunity to work alongside so many incredible artists. To my cast family: you are in my heart forever. To the writers, directors, crew, post and pre-production folks and so many more BTS: I remain grateful and honored to have built what we built together for the six seasons prior to now. And to the beloved fans, the true lifeblood of the show: thank you for your love, your support, your tears, your laughter, your social media turn-up, and most of all, your willingness to see yourself — and love yourself — within Charley’s brilliance and complexity. For me, it was always the goal that our audience be deepened and celebrated in her walk. Looking forward to what the future holds and truly grateful to all of you who will join me for the ride! Until then, signing off for now and sending love in all the ways… 🫶🏽Likes : 27654

Caption : Although #WomensHistoryMonth has come to a close, I want to take a moment to celebrate a woman who is herself making history, unearthing history, & ultimately healing history. That woman is author & writer @nataliebaszile. I truly believe that every Black person in this country whose roots go back to the American South should have her latest offering, WE ARE EACH OTHER’S HARVEST, somewhere in their life. It is an achingly beautiful curation of writers, poets, thinkers & farmers — all speaking not only to the history of Black farmers & the legacy of land, but to the relationship that we all still have to rural communities and to food-growing & making… whether we are aware of it or not. I started reading this book over the holidays, & I was blown away by its quiet and transformative power. It felt like Natalie was weaving together threads of history that have been cut or at least frayed over the years for so many families (mine among them), who moved west & north in the waves of the Great Migration — & whose stories of farming & agriculture may have been lost, forgotten or banned due to the pain that came with them. I wanted to celebrate her today, because I turned to HARVEST for reprieve during a time of sadness related to all of this and more. What I found in those pages was so healing and whole-making, that it often brought me to tears while reading. It was also so rich and recognizable that I found myself nodding or laughing or shaking my head in disbelief at the amount of questions being answered with one piece of work. She not only offers us reclamation of the legacy of Black farmers (and a true accounting of the racism that tried to bury that legacy), but she celebrates all those who preserved it through incredible hardship – as well as those who now are redefining that legacy and that identity in our modern era, especially uplifting those women of color. And for me personally, she is modeling what it looks like to truly allow your craft, purpose, journey & art to converge in the best of ways – producing work that is transcendent, restorative, & of great service. I celebrate & thank you, Natalie Baszile. Happy belated #WomensHistoryMonth.Likes : 2040
![Dawn-Lyen Gardner - 2K Likes - It is such a deep honor – especially on the cusp Black History Month and Women’s History Month – to have been nominated for an NAACP Image Award alongside such brilliant Black women.
My sister, @rutina_wesley. The @queenlatifah, @octaviaspencer, and @im.angelabassett – whose win I cheer and who remains one of my craft and passion sheroes.
You all give me and so many other Black women permission to thrive in this industry, and I thank you for it. And congrats to the entire QS village, seen and unseen, for its recognition as Outstanding Drama Series. So many have poured their hearts into the show over these years, and it is a blessing to see all of that work acknowledged.

My deep gratitude to the NAACP for the honor of being nominated includes the recognition of their extraordinary legacy of both fighting for and protecting our voting rights and our elections.
The NAACP has always been on the front lines of voter protection advocacy because they know to be true what Thurgood Marshall said so many years ago: “We must dissent from the indifference. We must dissent from the apathy. We must dissent from the fear, the hatred and mistrust…We must dissent because America can do better, because America has no choice but to do better.”
May we move forward in this election year with the courage and conviction to continue the fight to protect our rights, and may the current world events give us even more reason to be a stand for ourselves, each other, and the more just world we believe is possible.

And given recent events, trust that I understand and have deep compassion for the exhaustion many of us are feeling. And yet I know, I must do everything I can to move this country in the direction that creates Belonging for everyone. I’ll be voting during the midterms. Bidding begins TODAY March 8th at 9 AM and ends March 13th at 11:59 PM. 100% of proceeds from the auction will go directly to The Lower Eastside Girls Club. Since 1996, the Lower Eastside Girls Club has supported young women and gender-expansive youth of color throughout New York City in leveraging their inner power to shape a better future for themselves, their community, and the world. As an innovative learning hub, LESGC models practices of community resilience and healing-centered engagement. By championing young people and channeling their curiosity and creative energy, LESGC is transforming our world to one of “Joy. Power. Possibility.” More information is available at girlsclub.org. Link in bio to bid: https://lalignenyc.com/collections/re-ligne @lalignenyc @girlsclubny About La Ligne: Launched in 2016, La Ligne was founded on the universal appeal of the stripe as a timeless wardrobe staple. Designed to bring high-quality products, service, and design, without the high prices. The brand’s confident vision is a product of its stripe-obsessed co-founders—Meredith Melling, Valerie Macaulay, and Molly Howard, who have more than thirty years of experience in the fashion business. On Earth Day April 2021, the brand launched Re-Ligne as an ongoing commitment to sustainability to keep pre-loved items out of the landfill and in the closets of the women who love them. The collection is sold at their boutiques on Madison Avenue in New York City, at Highland Park Village in Dallas Texas and at The Royal Poinciana in Palm Beach, as well as on its ecommerce, lalignenyc.com, Net-a-Porter and Nordstrom.Likes : 1813

Caption : Starting Black History Month with the Lunar New Year reminds me of how interconnected the Asian and Black communities have been for decades, if not centuries. These photos of Dr King and Thich Nhat Hanh are the manifestation of that legacy. During a press conference in 1966, they released this joint statement: “We also believe that the struggles for equality and freedom in Birmingham, Selma and Chicago, as in Hue, Danang and Saigon, are aimed not at the domination of one people by another. They are aimed at self-determination, peaceful social change, and a better life for all human beings. And we believe that only in a world of peace can the work of construction, of building good societies everywhere, go forward.” This kindred connection stemmed from a mutual understanding of being up against the same systems. Dr. King had great respect for Asian leadership and fought against the war in Vietnam until his last breath. In the same vein, in Vietnam, they called MLK a bodhisattva — the Buddhist term for “an enlightened being trying to awaken other living beings and help them move toward more compassion and understanding”. The friendship and legacy shared by Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and Thich Nhat Hanh, now both ancestors, is a beautiful example of this solidarity and what it means to be in pursuit of Black Liberation and the Anti-war/Peace Movement. Caption : As a former public defender having presided over the United States District Court and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit, JUSTICE Ketanji Brown Jackson receiving the nomination for the Supreme Court already gave me hope and made me feel proud. But to watch this beautiful Black woman be confirmed today will be a moment I’ll cherish forever. Like the hope and pride in the face of her daughter, Leila, as she watched with admiration (scroll for the photo by Sarahbeth Maney). KBJ is the reminder that we get to decide who belongs not only in this country but also our decision making processes. I want to celebrate her win for making it so far in a system designed to fail us, and I hope that the road will become less treacherous for future justices. I hope that future Black women can have fulfilling careers without the misogyny and emotional trauma of being overqualified and still underestimated. But today… today my heart sings for Supreme Court Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson and the ways we are transforming halls of power by being. She is here to stay and she deserves it ALL 🤩 #KBJ #KBJDayLikes : 923

Caption : Rest is our birthright, and a necessity to ensure we keep going ❤️ Reposting the always healing words and art by @morganharpernichols • for the tired one, in summer: summer after summer, you’ve been fighting to breathe under the hot light of anger, the downpour of grief, and the humidity-lined questions that rise up in between. it’s hard to think in the heat, especially when you can’t see beyond the trees, the swamp is up to your knees, (and the landscape is not what it seemed… is this really what June, July, and August intended for this space to be?) it’s beginning to seem like this season is set on relentless othering: carving lines in thunder and rain, setting calm, blue skies aflame, and on the ground, love gets lost in the gaps of fences’ frames. it’s starting to look like summer is someone else’s game. a game that breaks into war at night. a game you’re much too tired to fight. you long for softer light… your rest is long overdue. -Morgan Harper NicholsLikes : 667
