I go to Dianna and Kyle's place every week to make some of Dianna meals and help Kyle with anything he needs. I have not spoken to Dianna in a few months due to her being weak. I come in the room, drop off her food, we give each other a little wave, and then I leave. Summer of 2023, we were definitely speaking with Dianna more. I felt like I was able to speak with her every couple days, and there were even some good laughs. Since Autumn 2023, Dianna's crashes have been rough. So now, she rests more, and communicates in a way that hopefully costs less energy. Thank you so much everyone. Dianna Cowern Instagram - (By Kyle) today we celebrated our 1 year wedding anniversary. A year ago, we never imagined our lives would be like this. Everything changed so quickly and so drastically. A year ago we were in Kauai getting married, and a few weeks later back home running a half marathon together. Now, Dianna hasn’t been able to get out of bed for months. Something else that has changed over the last year is our love for each other. But for the better. We’ve grown so much closer in our first year of marriage. We’ve learned how to care for each other in extreme and depressing circumstances. We make each other laugh and smile for just a moment everyday, no matter the pain and no matter how bleak it seems at times. Dianna is such a warrior, and we’re working each day towards recovery - whatever that ends up looking like for us. Luckily, today was a “good” day and we got to share some smiles and hugs, and she even was able to read the short card I got her without crying too much 🥲. I hope we have more good days coming, and that we get to celebrate the “in health” part of our marriage soon. But either way, we’re lucky to be together. Finally, we couldn’t be where we are mentally, physically or emotionally without the incredible support we’ve gotten from our friends, family, and from so many people who simply want Dianna to get better. It’s truly amazing, and we thank you all from the bottom of our hearts. #longcovid #mecfs

Dianna Cowern Instagram - #mecfs is unimaginably isolating, especially for severe patients like Dianna. The disease just doesn’t make sense; even for me, it’s taken a year of caring for her every day to start to understand. To get a sense, Dianna has spent the last year and a half in her room, unable to watch tv or read a book or spend time with friends. She cannot walk or take care of herself. She can brush her teeth and feed herself, but not much more than that. We can cuddle and hold hands, but sometimes that’s too much for her. It’s so removed from normal life, and so much worse than you could ever imagine. It’s hard to share these things, because I fear people will blame me or blame her for not treating her properly, for not taking this medication or that supplement, or following such and such a protocol. Or worse yet, suggesting that all she needs is to get up and go for a walk. Even on this post, people will say those things. But there’s no consistent treatment or even diagnostics at this point. So, we are left alone, in pain, wondering if what we’re doing is right or wrong, if there’s something else we should have done a year ago that would have avoided all this. We try not to think like that, but it creeps in from time to time. If you are a physician, please consider getting involved in treating and researching #longcovid and #mecfs While Dianna is still very sick, her doctors and treatments ease her burden and give us hope. Dianna Cowern Instagram - One of my diseases is MCAS (Mast Cell Activation Syndrome) where mast cells, that are supposed to alert your immune system there’s something harmful in your body, react to something benign. It makes my cheeks (mostly the right one) flush red. Plus makes me dizzy, nauseous, and exhausted. In this case it was probably the hypoallergenic unscented soap I used on my face. 🫠 #longcovid #mcas #mecfs

The support and love is overwhelming.  I just don't know how to respond. I am...very sick.  My brain works at 20% capacity a few minutes a day. I can barely move or talk. The rest of the time, I lie here with my eyes closed in a quiet dark room, no music, no reading, no phone. I count breaths, meditate, repeat mantras to soothe my fears. Sometimes I succeed.  I have severe MCAS. (And severe MECFS, POTS, SIBO, and a lower gut infection, that have been diagnosed so far.) The MCAS is brutal. I get dizziness, nausea, and chest pain from everything. Every food I eat, fragrance I smell, organic cotton sheets that have been boiled with no detergent, all my meds (that are supposed to help MCAS). I can't wear clothes, I can't use toothpaste, Kyle has to boil hypoallergenic baby wipes so I can "bathe" without getting rashes. This disease is truly horrible.  But we're still trying treatments. And I promise, I am hanging in there. I have the best support system I could imagine, you all included. ❤ D #longcovid #mecfs #mcas

Dianna Cowern Instagram - (Dianna's editor posting) Dianna is currently suffering from a multi-week crash. It's been over a year since she got sick and she will still crash from any minor mental or physical stress. These crashes are the result from her severe MCAS and ME/CFS. I started helping Kyle and Dianna full-time here a couple months ago, and it's surreal to see her state. I think when you're not around it, it's easy for the time to pass, or to assume the time goes by relatively easy from her bedroom. But it doesn't. Dianna still doesn't consume anything that is potentially overstimulating for her mind. She doesn't watch movies, read books, or listen to music. She's able to speak more throughout the day than she used to, and she develops little funny sentences or short songs in her head. But other than that, you're looking at it. Dianna Cowern Instagram - Hello everyone, this video was taken a couple weeks ago of Dianna cutting her hair again. Dianna still hasn’t gotten out of bed, and it’s been long enough that her hair has grown out again. Health Update — For the past 2 or more months, Dianna has been dealing with a very heavy crash from her chronic fatigue sydrome. As we know, these crashes keep her physically restricted, but equally as painful is the brain fog she experiences from the mental fatigue. From what we understand working with her doctor, these crashes are to be expected, and expected to be long. So though it’s hard for all of us to stay positive when it seems like she’s barely getting better, it’s important to remember that long set backs are a part of the slow recovery. I(Levi, Dianna’s editor) make Dianna’s day meals Monday through Friday and I have not seen her in months. I give the meals to Kyle and he takes them to her as she is too weak to respond to anyone. I tell this story just to illustrate what it’s like here and how it’s still a lot of Dianna laying down trying to stay quiet. Sometimes I leave and come back and it’s surreal to see that she’s still like this in the thick of the disease. The GOOD news is for about the past week or 2, Kyle has been telling me she’s feeling slightly better. They believe she is slowly moving out of this crash, and they are both feeling more hopeful. Dianna’s mom visits as often as she can. And we often express to each other our gratitude for all the online support. These month long “crashes” or “setbacks” are a reminder of how slow and long this process is and how none of it would be doable without the help. Dianna is very saddened to imagine she may be like this for 5, or 10, or more years. But we all feel like at least she can have something of a shot at a normal life thanks to all the help received. Since July, I’ve been struggling with what’s called “Long COVID.” Someone you know might’ve had this syndrome, and not even known. For me, the symptoms are, being unable to get out of bed for a few weeks after I pushed to finish my last YouTube video. (Post-Exertional Malaise). Becoming dizzy and nauseous if I walk more than 10 mins a day (Exercise Intolerance). Spelling cancel “cansul” in an email, losing my place in the sentence I was just writing, inability to process any scientific papers (Brain Fog). Getting extremely stressed while driving. (Emotional Disregulation) Along with extreme fatigue, sleeping like a teenager, breathlessness, digestive issues, chest pain, and kryptonite intolerance. Post-COVID syndrome takes a few forms, including post-ICU complications, but mine is very similar to Myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome (ME/CFS). I’m hoping to make a video soon about this, but not yet. There won’t be a lot of videos from me for the next few months. I’m sad too. 😛

We made a small time-lapse of what it looks like in Dianna's room for a day. This is what she has been doing every day since January of 2023. Many people think if she were in her room all day without anything to do, that she could maybe watching TV or reading books. But the mental toll ME/CFS takes disables her from being able to do anything fun that is mentally stimulating. She is awake, but unable to meaningfully interact or have many complex thoughts. So, we are left alone, in pain, wondering if what we’re doing is right or wrong, if there’s something else we should have done a year ago that would have avoided all this. We try not to think like that, but it creeps in from time to time. The support and love is overwhelming.  I just don't know how to respond. I am...very sick.  My brain works at 20% capacity a few minutes a day. I can barely move or talk. The rest of the time, I lie here with my eyes closed in a quiet dark room, no music, no reading, no phone. I count breaths, meditate, repeat mantras to soothe my fears. Sometimes I succeed.  I have severe MCAS. (And severe MECFS, POTS, SIBO, and a lower gut infection, that have been diagnosed so far.) The MCAS is brutal. I get dizziness, nausea, and chest pain from everything. Every food I eat, fragrance I smell, organic cotton sheets that have been boiled with no detergent, all my meds (that are supposed to help MCAS). I can't wear clothes, I can't use toothpaste, Kyle has to boil hypoallergenic baby wipes so I can "bathe" without getting rashes. This disease is truly horrible.  But we're still trying treatments. And I promise, I am hanging in there. I have the best support system I could imagine, you all included. ❤ D #longcovid #mecfs #mcas

I can't wear clothes, I can't use toothpaste, Kyle has to boil hypoallergenic baby wipes so I can "bathe" without getting rashes. This disease is truly horrible.  But we're still trying treatments. Dianna still hasn’t gotten out of bed, and it’s been long enough that her hair has grown out again. Health Update — For the past 2 or more months, Dianna has been dealing with a very heavy crash from her chronic fatigue sydrome. As we know, these crashes keep her physically restricted, but equally as painful is the brain fog she experiences from the mental fatigue. From what we understand working with her doctor, these crashes are to be expected, and expected to be long. So though it’s hard for all of us to stay positive when it seems like she’s barely getting better, it’s important to remember that long set backs are a part of the slow recovery. I(Levi, Dianna’s editor) make Dianna’s day meals Monday through Friday and I have not seen her in months. I give the meals to Kyle and he takes them to her as she is too weak to respond to anyone. I tell this story just to illustrate what it’s like here and how it’s still a lot of Dianna laying down trying to stay quiet. Sometimes I leave and come back and it’s surreal to see that she’s still like this in the thick of the disease. The GOOD news is for about the past week or 2, Kyle has been telling me she’s feeling slightly better. They believe she is slowly moving out of this crash, and they are both feeling more hopeful. Dianna’s mom visits as often as she can. And we often express to each other our gratitude for all the online support. These month long “crashes” or “setbacks” are a reminder of how slow and long this process is and how none of it would be doable without the help. Dianna is very saddened to imagine she may be like this for 5, or 10, or more years. But we all feel like at least she can have something of a shot at a normal life thanks to all the help received. Since July, I’ve been struggling with what’s called “Long COVID.” Someone you know might’ve had this syndrome, and not even known. For me, the symptoms are, being unable to get out of bed for a few weeks after I pushed to finish my last YouTube video. (Post-Exertional Malaise). Becoming dizzy and nauseous if I walk more than 10 mins a day (Exercise Intolerance). Spelling cancel “cansul” in an email, losing my place in the sentence I was just writing, inability to process any scientific papers (Brain Fog). Getting extremely stressed while driving. (Emotional Disregulation) Along with extreme fatigue, sleeping like a teenager, breathlessness, digestive issues, chest pain, and kryptonite intolerance. Post-COVID syndrome takes a few forms, including post-ICU complications, but mine is very similar to Myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome (ME/CFS). Caption : I have 4 months worth of selfies like this because couch is all I’ve been doing. Since July, I’ve been struggling with what’s called “Long COVID.” Someone you know might’ve had this syndrome, and not even known. For me, the symptoms are, being unable to get out of bed for a few weeks after I pushed to finish my last YouTube video. (Post-Exertional Malaise). Becoming dizzy and nauseous if I walk more than 10 mins a day (Exercise Intolerance). Spelling cancel “cansul” in an email, losing my place in the sentence I was just writing, inability to process any scientific papers (Brain Fog). Getting extremely stressed while driving. (Emotional Disregulation) Along with extreme fatigue, sleeping like a teenager, breathlessness, digestive issues, chest pain, and kryptonite intolerance. Post-COVID syndrome takes a few forms, including post-ICU complications, but mine is very similar to Myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome (ME/CFS).
