Caption : These are my parents. Last night, my 71 year old mother earned her 3-year sobriety chip. Iām really proud of her. She has been addicted to prescription drugs for over three decades. Itās been a very long road for my entire family. In and out of rehab. Weāve got stories⦠In 2020, I knew I could no longer keep living in the co-dependency so I chose to step away. I didnāt talk to my parents for over two years. It was an extremely sad but necessary decision I made with a lot of support and therapy. I even celebrated the happiest day of my life – my wedding – without my parents in attendance. It was tough. Iām an only child. Not everybody was supportive. I had people tell me I was unforgiving, dishonoring my mother and dishonoring God, but I knew in my heart that forgiveness did not mean sacrificing my own mental health, that God still loved me, and that I also mattered here. Fast forward a few years – after a lot of humility, hard work, ownership, and many necessary conversations, we were finally able to start a much healthier relationship in 2023. I asked her a few weeks ago, āWhy are you so different this time?ā She immediately said, āBecause I finally quit living in shame.ā She told me that the shame of her choices always kept her going back to drugs, unable to talk about it and unable to help other people. Now, sheās sharing the good, the bad and the ugly if it will help somebody. If youāve read this far I guess I would say the take-away is this: -Youāre never too old to make a change. -Sometimes doing hard things and setting boundaries is necessary for everybody involved. Donāt let others make you feel guilty. -Shame is a thief. -Humility is everything. -Iām proud of my mom. If youāre an addict, I hope you feel hopeful. If youāre a co-dependent, I hope you can find strength to get therapy and set healthy boundaries. And if youāre giving advice to either, lead with love. Save the rest for a therapist. š I hope this helps somebody today. And I hope youāll get to hear more from my mother as time goes on. I will be speaking at some churches and womenās events on this in the next few months. Comedy and trauma are such a great combination. šLikes : 16775

Caption : In 2018 I was in my fifth year of single-mom-life with two kids, starting a new career at 42 doing something I knew nothing about. This guy was the production manager on my first tour. He was young and single – never wanted to get married or have kids. So of course, we fell in love and got married on 10.10.2020. I just want to say to all of you who may be discouraged and in a weird purgatory-phase of life, YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT GOOD THINGS MAY BE WAITING FOR YOU JUST AROUND THE CORNER. šā¤ļø Iām so glad that I have stayed open and said yes to whatever unexpected things God has brought my way. In the words of @drjoedispenza, āThe unknown has never let me down.ā And Iām especially grateful to be celebrating three of the best years of my life with the best man I know – my husband who didnāt want to be one. Iām glad he stayed open, too. Marrying him was the easiest, best decision Iāve ever made. Heās absolutely killing it at partnership and parenthood! (And Iām not just saying that because I woke up to roses and a scavenger hunt of sweet cards ending in tickets to see John Mayer tomorrow night.) So, hereās to another year of lots of love and lots of laughter. š„HAPPY ANNIVERSARY, Stephen Mathew.ā¤ļø Youāre my hero.Likes : 5727

Caption : A note to girls who want a partner but donāt have one yet: Long ago in the year 2018, in my 4th year of single-mom life, I had resigned myself to the fact that I had been through a lot and that I, in fact, WAS a lot so I would probably be āaloneāforever. And that was actually working out great for me. I rather enjoyed it. I loved myself and my time and my way. I was as stable as a person with my brain and history could be. I was happy. And all those things I was looking for as a young girl that I had written on paper in youth group had not really worked out for me anyway. But one day, this really handsome, young millennial guy who never wanted to be married or have children came my way so of course, I was interested. He was 29. I was 41. YIKES! (Couldāve sworn he was older.) We had different backgrounds and cultures. I had trauma. He didnāt. He was smart. I was just funny. He knew how to pronounce gnocchi. I thought I did but I didnāt. On paper this was FOR SURE a no-go, but as previously stated, paper hadnāt really worked out for me soā¦. Hereās what Iām saying: Iām really glad I didnāt put pen to paper on this one. Iām really glad I went with my heart and my gut and didnāt talk myself out of the greatest thing thatās ever happened to me. Iām glad I took a risk that is paying off in spades. And Iām especially glad that the best man Iāve ever known decided that a wife and a couple of teenagers was, in fact, for him after all. I KNEW IT, GIRLS!! I knew this was out there. I knew that being cherished and adored everyday wasnāt just a pipe dream. I knew I deserved this. And so do you. You deserve it, too. Donāt settle. If you are a gal wanting a partner, wait for one who thinks Valentineās Day is the dumbest thing on living earth but writes you the sweetest cards and gives you flowers anyway (& your daughter, too). But most importantly, hold out for one who doesnāt need a āholidayā to make you feel like youāre the greatest gift heās ever been given. This oneās a keeper. Until then, be the love of your own life. Nobody can love you better than you love yourself, so Iām learning. (But my guy is a very close second). š©·Likes : 5529
