Jacinda Ardern Instagram - And with that, my time in parliament has drawn to an end. There’s only one thing left to say - thank you. 📸 @robertkitchin
Jacinda Ardern Instagram - Big day today. Spending a few hours packing and sorting papers for the archives, and then this afternoon I give my last speech to parliament (it’s at 5.30pm on Freeview channel 31 if you’re interested in tuning in.) Lots of mixed emotions…and a very long list of things to do!
Jacinda Ardern Instagram - Nine years today. Happy Anniversary my love. Thanks for all the tea in bed, fresh fish and endless love and support xxx
Jacinda Ardern Instagram - It is with great sadness that New Zealand wakes to the news of the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

I know I speak for all New Zealanders in conveying our deepest sympathy to members of the Royal Family and condolences to King Charles III on behalf of the Government and New Zealanders at this time of enormous loss.

The last days of the Queen’s life captures who she was in so many ways. Working till the very end, on behalf of the people she loved.

And that is why I am sure that we will have received the news of her passing with both emotions of deep sadness, but also deep gratitude for a life that was utterly and completely devoted to the service of others.

The Queen has been such a constant in our lives for 70 years, the longest serving Monarch in British history.

Over her reign she has come to define notions of service, charity and consistency. Her commitment to her role and to all of us has been without question and has been unwavering.

She has also demonstrated courage and compassion and humour. A strong memory I will have of her is her laughter.

She was extraordinary.

To honour the passing of the Queen of New Zealand and realm countries, we move into a period of official mourning. Flags will be flown at half mast. Preparations begin for a state memorial service to be held after the official funeral is held in the United Kingdom. While we await details of these arrangements, we anticipate it will be held in the UK about 10 days’ time.

I know many will want to share their thoughts at this time. There will be condolences books placed in the foyer of the Beehive, the National Library and Wellington Cathedral. I expect across New Zealand local arrangements will be made.

This is a time of deep sadness. Young or old, there is no doubt that a chapter is closing today. And with that, we share our thanks for an incredible woman, who we were lucky to call our Queen.
Jacinda Ardern Instagram - Despite best efforts, unfortunately I’ve joined the rest of my family and have tested positive for COVID 19. We’ve been isolating since Sunday when Clarke first tested positive. Neve tested positive on Wednesday and I returned a weak positive last night and a strong one this morning. There are so many important things happening for the Government this week - the release of our Emissions Reduction Plan on Monday and the Budget on Thursday. I’m gutted to miss being there in person, but will be staying in close touch with the team and sharing some reckons from here.

To anyone else out there, isolating or dealing with COVID, I hope you take good care of yourselves!
Jacinda Ardern Instagram - When we boarded the NZDF plane to head to the East Asia Summit this afternoon, I asked the crew whether they were expecting any updates on the Black Ferns game while we were mid air. Not only did they update us on the score, we got a run down on injuries. We landed with enough time to catch the closing 20mins…and I’m so glad we did. There are no words for that game, just like there’s almost no words for the Black Ferns. But for now, I’m going to go with ‘legends.’ 🖤🖤🖤

Jacinda Ardern Instagram - In the early hours of this morning I had the privilege of speaking on behalf of New Zealand at the United Nations. With so many challenges in front of us, it was a chance to speak firmly against the war in Ukraine and the existence of nuclear weapons. It was also a chance to reiterate the importance of climate action, and the work we’ve being doing on terrorist and violent extremist content online. It’s a dark time, but I’m an optimist. I absolutely believe with diplomacy, dialogue, and action we can make progress on the great challenges of our time.
Jacinda Ardern Instagram - I know many of you will have seen the news coming out of Ukraine over the past 24 hours, so I wanted to write an update on the steps we’re taking as a Government, and what you can expect as the situation continues to unfold.

Jacinda Ardern Instagram - A quick update! When I did my final interviews before leaving Parliament, I said that alongside working as a special envoy to the Christchurch Call, and joining the Earthshot board, I would also be doing some speaking, teaching, and learning. Here’s a little more detail on that….

I’m incredibly humbled to be invited to join Harvard University later this year as 2023 Angelopoulos Global Public Leaders Fellow and as a Hauser Leader in the Kennedy School’s Center for Public Leadership.

Harvard have been a really important partner in the Christchurch Call work, and my semester there later this year will also be an opportunity to take up the first tech governance leadership fellowship at the Berkman Klien Center. Not only will this be a chance to work collaboratively with the center’s research community, but also work on the challenges around the growth of generative AI tools.

I’ll also be sharing my experiences through speaking both here and abroad, while also taking time over the next year to learn too.

While I’ll be gone for a semester (helpfully the one that falls during the NZ general election!) I’ll be coming back at the end of the fellowships. After all, New Zealand is home!
Jacinda Ardern Instagram - Saturday morning ☺️❤️
Jacinda Ardern Instagram - Election day here in the USA….felt like a good time to pull out this number from home. #kind #electionday #manifesting
Jacinda Ardern Instagram - I’m pretty sporadic on here these days. In part, I’ve been wanting to take a bit of a breather from the public side of life. But I wanted to share a wee project I’ve been working on called Field. It’s a 12 month programme that supports and connects global political leaders who embody political leadership that draws on the strength of kindness and empathy.

Field is hosted by Global Progress, and will create a network of like minded political leaders who use pragmatic idealism, speak to people with hope and optimism rather than fear or blame, and want to unite, rather than divide as we look to solve the challenges ahead.

Our first cohort of leaders will meet in July and come from across Europe but this will broaden over time.

Field is an incredibly humbling, and exciting project to be leading. All part of my ongoing mission to help rehumanise leadership, and just be useful! More updates to come. Needless to say, I haven’t quite managed that cup of tea and a lie down just yet...
Jacinda Ardern Instagram - When I left parliament there were a few questions I got asked quite often - are your family happy to have you back (mostly 😂) and will you write about your time in office? At first, my answer was no.  I didn’t want to write a book that hauled over the internal politics of the last five years, and then someone convinced me that I didn’t have to. That maybe it might be worth expanding on some of things I talked about in my valedictory instead—like the idea you can be your own kind of leader and still make a difference.  And so that’s what I’m planning to do.

I’ve seen a bit of speculation about me writing, but there’s not too much more to say other than I’m planning on doing it and will be working with a lovely team of publishers (including Penguin in NZ and Australia, Macmillan in the UK and Crown in the United States.)

There’s no set date for when it will be done- the Christchurch call work on violent extremism and terrorism online is keeping me pretty busy- but I hope when it’s done, it’s the kind of book that would have made a difference to my 14 year old self. (📸 Today -finishing up in Wellington after Chch call meetings.)
Jacinda Ardern Instagram - I’m very conscious that it’s been a while since I posted, and there have been a few big things happening. But today the most important thing is everyone’s wellbeing and safety - especially across Auckland after such a severe weather event. So this is a post from the MP for Mt Albert!

Here are some headline points and tips for the morning that were accurate as at 10am. I’ll be sure to post any updates that come through. Till then, stay safe everyone.

Jacinda Ardern Instagram - Absolutely devastated to see the news that the former Prime Minister of Japan, Shinzo Abe, has passed away after being shot at a rally. Shinzo Abe was one of the first world leaders I met when I became Prime Minister. He was always focused and thoughtful, but also generous. I remember after our first bilateral meeting as we were waiting for an official photo he leaned over to tell me he was sorry that my cat had passed away. In the meetings we had over the years, I saw a statesman, someone who helped usher through complex negotiations like the CPTPP, but also someone who was thoughtful and kind. The longest serving Prime Minister of Japan, whose loss will be deeply felt by so many- our thoughts and aroha are with you all.

Jacinda Ardern Instagram - The world needs to send a strong and clear message over Russia’s actions in Ukraine. New Zealand will implement a number of measures in response including:
Introduce targeted travel bans against Russian Government officials and other individuals associated with the Russian invasion of Ukraine, in line with a number of our partners;
Prohibit the export of goods to Russian military and security forces; and
Suspend bilateral foreign ministry engagement until further notice. My heart goes out to the people of Ukraine. It didn’t have to be this way, and we have a duty to provide swift and ongoing condemnation of the actions that are putting their lives at risk.
Jacinda Ardern Instagram - First day out of isolation and spent it outside with the family, getting a haircut and running some errands. Somehow though I’m still finishing the evening in the same hoodie I’ve been wearing for days 😳 For anyone who has COVID or is in isolation with someone who does, I hope you’re taking care of yourselves!
Jacinda Ardern Instagram - At 6am this morning the police began an operation to clear the parliament and surrounding area of an unlawful occupation that has gone on for 22 days. I know that in planning for that operation, the police expected there would be hostility, resistance, and violence. They planned for that, because that it was what they, and wellingtonians have experienced for several weeks. And while they planned for that, it is another thing entirely to witness it. To our frontline police fire and emergency services, you have our deep admiration and thanks. You have been calm but resolute in trying to bring this occupation to a conclusion. It has come at great risk to your personal safety. Thank you for putting others before yourselves.

We have all at times felt angry during this occupation. After all, when we are in the middle of a pandemic, have 400 people hospitlisaed and 20,000 people becoming sick in just one day, its almost impossible to comprehend that people would stand opposed to efforts to slow that down, and to help care for our most vulnerable. One day, it will be our job to try and understand how a group of people could succumb to such wild and dangerous mis and disinformation. And while many of us have seen that disinformation, and dismissed it as conspiracy theory, a small portion of our society have not only believed it, they have acted on it in an extreme and violent way. That cannot stand.
We have a difficult journey in front of us to address the underlying cause of what we have seen here today. But in doing so, we will never, ever excuse it. (Continued in comments)
Jacinda Ardern Instagram - Can’t remember the last time I had a birthday that was quite as normal as this one. Tea and toast in bed, work, and dinner with my loves. Feeling very lucky today…and just a little older. ❤️❤️❤️

Jacinda Ardern Instagram - Just finished up a lovely dinner with the new Prime Minister of Australia, Anthony Albanese. He was kind enough to gift me Midnight Oil, Spiderbait and Powderfinger on vinyl, so we left him with a few Flying Nun treats in return. Looking forward to the formal meeting we have scheduled for tomorrow, there’s a lot on the agenda!

Jacinda Ardern Instagram - It’s NZ Music T-Shirt day, and to mark the occasion I popped on this shirt, donated to @musichelpsnz and got Clarke to take a photo of me with my eyes half closed. I remember when Music Helps first launched - they do amazing stuff. In their own words “MusicHelps support hundreds of projects across Aotearoa, each using the power of music to change the lives of thousands in need. This includes music therapy, music programs in respite and palliative care, music education programs (particularly in low decile environments), music programs in prisons and rehabilitation and music in aged care to name but a few initiatives they support.

MusicHelps also provides emergency assistance to thousands of music people experiencing hardship and illness through their suite of music support services.” Huge thanks to music helps for the work you do, and to everyone supporting you today! #nzmusictshirtday #musichelps
Jacinda Ardern Instagram - This morning I spoke with Denys Shmyhal, the Prime Minister of Ukraine. He thanked New Zealand for moving quickly to condemn the invasion of his country, and put in place sanctions against Russia. As he noted, there are no bigger or smaller countries, only those who react. We discussed what ongoing support is needed, including humanitarian assistance, which New Zealand has contributed to. We will continue to do what we can to show our support for Ukraine and it’s people - as the whole world must.
Jacinda Ardern Instagram - This year was my turn on the birthday cake (or what I’ve come to know as the ‘stress bomb’) Neve requested a Ladybug, and after several disasters underneath A LOT of icing, this was the result. All edible aside from the eyes (I resorted to sharpie on lollipops 😳) Happy Birthday Neve Te Aroha!
Jacinda Ardern Instagram - “What do you think, when I say the word politician”

Over the years, I’ve asked that question of young people dozens of times. The answer is exactly as you would predict.

But what if we could change that? What if we could change not just the expectation of traditional political leadership, but political leadership itself?

I don’t expect it can be achieved overnight, but one contribution I could make was to help establish the Field Fellowship.

Field is all about lifting up empathetic leadership in politics, by supporting those in the thick of day to day politics across different countries. It’s about meeting the expectation of the people we serve- focusing our time and energy on policy solutions that make a difference, that go beyond a political cycle, and that show politics can be more than ‘a bear pit’.

We launched a few months ago and I was delighted to be joined by Michelle Bachelet (the former President of Chile) and Julia Gillard (The first woman PM to lead Australia) as we gathered for our inaugural event with our first cohort of fellows.

I believe in this project, just as I believe that politics can be different, and that it can be better. So onwards!!
Jacinda Ardern Instagram - Just at the airport and finally have a chance to post about the last two days in London! Today I had the chance to catch up with the Duke of Cambridge. We talked about a whole range of things but at the end I took the chance to share a bit of merch for the upcoming Rugby Women’s World Cup, which we’re hosting this year! Then it was onto a meeting with the Leader of the Opposition, Sir Keir Starmer.
Yesterday the day started with a bit of tourism promotion, and then we spent a good couple of hours with Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, for a bilateral meeting – and to confirm an extension to the reciprocal Working Holiday/Youth Mobility Scheme we currently have with the UK. This will extend the age of eligibility from 30 to 35 years, and extend the length of visa from roughly two years to three years.
Then it was onto a foreign policy event at Chatham House, followed by reception with businesses connected to NZ trade, tourism and investment. It’s been a busy but great couple of days.

Jacinda Ardern Instagram - A truly humbling experience to be in the UK these past few days to represent New Zealand, and to farewell Her late Majesty the Queen. But today I was reminded that amongst everything else, she was a mother, a grandmother and a great grandmother. Watching her family follow her as she left the church will be one of my over riding memories- right next to seeing other the New Zealanders sitting together in the vast space on behalf of us all to say one final “thank you, ma’am”
Jacinda Ardern Instagram - A while ago I was asked whether I would give the commencement speech at Harvard University. It was an incredibly humbling invitation, and an amazing opportunity to talk about some of the things that make our corner of the world special - but also our challenges. I spent quite a long time thinking about and (eventually) writing this one, because I wanted to capture a few things that have been on my mind. Things like democracy, disinformation, and kindness. If you have a moment to spare, I’d love to share it with you. PS swipe to see the largest number of collapsible chairs I’ve ever seen at one event. 32,000 of them! https://www.beehive.govt.nz/speech/harvard-commencement-speech-democracy-disinformation-and-kindness

Jacinda Ardern Instagram - Look at these two! Happy 45th Wedding Anniversary Mum and Dad. As Neve said “they only look a little bit different now.”
Jacinda Ardern Instagram - Big announcement! I’m so excited to share that my book is officially coming out on 3 June and is called A Different Kind of Power. I’ll confess it’s taken me a while! But I’ve tried to put on a page how it feels to lead - all the highs and lows, the parts of the job people don’t often see, and the many lessons I learned along the way. But I also wanted to share why I believe in empathetic leadership, and that kindness isn’t just something we should teach our kids, there’s a place for it in politics too. Especially in these times. If you want to preorder now, jump on the link in my bio. I can’t wait to hear your thoughts and discuss much more soon! #ADifferentKindofPower
Jacinda Ardern Instagram - In the spirit of good sportsmanship and a good cause, David and I signed and (unfortunately) immortalised the Hansard quote from this week. Jacinda Ardern Instagram - There’s a few things about our parliament that I think are pretty special, including that every few years young people from around the country come to parliament as youth MPs and as members of the gallery, and take part in full mock sessions of the house. Meet William who grew up in Mt Albert, and who will take on the role of youth MP for the electorate in July. William sent me a video full of the issues he was passionate about, and a plan of how he wanted to make sure more young people have a chance to engage in their democracy. Thanks so much for bringing such passion to the role @williambellpurchas !

Jacinda Ardern Instagram - There’s not many public servants I have got to know as well as Dr Ashley Bloomfield. In every sense of the word - through his tireless dedication, his focus on people, his calm and considered approach - he has been a true public servant. He has been central to our COVID success as a nation, and he’s done it with humour and grace (I’ll keep the details of his sporadic mockery of me to myself!) When we spoke about his decision to move on, he mentioned that he wanted to spend time with his family, and that’s the least we owe him. So kia ora from across the Motu, Dr Bloomfield. We thank you. 📸 NZ Herald (from a long time ago!)
Jacinda Ardern Instagram - Writing this post in between flights home, and at the end of a really big day. Today I had the opportunity to meet with the President and Vice President of the United States of America. We were scheduled to meet with the President for roughly an hour, but we stayed for 90 minutes discussing everything from the war in Ukraine, the recent gun violence in the United States, the Indo Pacific Economic Framework and trade issues right through to our shared Irish heritage and family members who served in the Pacific during the war. It was also such a pleasure to meet the Vice President, who has specific responsibility for United States work in space and cyber related issues so we discussed both - with a particular focus on the work New Zealand has been doing in the aftermath of March 15 on terrorism and violent extremism online. These are tough times globally, so the chance to speak so openly and frankly with other leaders on behalf of New Zealand was a welcome opportunity. And now, it’s time to come home! See you soon! 📸Joy Asico

📸Joy Asico
Jacinda Ardern Instagram - It’s been a busy week and I’ve been pretty slack posting about it! On Monday I chaired Cabinet from Auckland and we announced further measures to try and support our smaller retailers with significant retail crime prevention funding. The Finnish Prime Minister came to Auckland and we met before I headed off to the Fieldays to launch the Centre for Climate Action on Agricultural Emissions. Later in the week I caught up with our candidate in the Hamilton West by-election @georgiedansey and Hamilton East MP @jamiestrange_mp to see the Pacific community facility in Hamilton we have helped support. We also met with a local crime prevention team to talk about the new funding for Hamilton on crime prevention initiatives. A busy week so far, but full of important work (and great people!)

Jacinda Ardern Instagram - Deeply saddened to hear the news that Nikki Kaye has passed away. Nikki was someone I got to know fairly well over the years that we ran against each other in Auckland Central. We may have been opponents, but there were so many things I admired about Nikki. She worked incredibly hard, cared passionately about her electorate, and she was always willing to agree an idea was good, or bad, based on her values rather than just politics. We laughed a lot over the years, and while we may have had some decent debates, nothing ever felt genuinely personal. I’m sorry that I never knew Nikki was unwell again, if I had, I’d liked to have talked with her just one more time. Rest in peace, Nikki. Politics was better for having you in it.
Jacinda Ardern Instagram - Russia’s illegal, unprovoked invasion of Ukraine is a form of aggression at direct odds with the core values New Zealanders hold dear, and rely on for our own peace and security: democracy, human rights, and the international rules-based system.

This is why Aotearoa New Zealand has condemned, unequivocally, Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

I’ve written to #Ukraine’s Prime Minister Shmyhal to express our resolute support for Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. I am joined in that stance by every New Zealand Parliamentarian, with our unanimous motion to condemn Russia’s unprovoked and unjustified bullying.

In response to Russia’s invasion, we moved to strongly condemn the aggression against Ukraine and to introduce a range of measures in response.

We have banned exports of all goods that could be used by the Russian military and suspended foreign ministry consultations with Russia. There are now travel bans in place on key individuals from Russia and Belarus involved in the invasion against Ukraine, and this list will be reviewed regularly.

We have not yet reached the extent of the measures New Zealand would take to condemn this act. We are pursuing new measures to target Russian investment, including measures to target financial institutions in New Zealand, including separate, but Russian targeted, specific legislation.

We are deeply concerned at the humanitarian consequences of Russia’s invasion. We’ve made an initial contribution of $2 million in humanitarian aid through the International Committee for the Red Cross and are actively investigating what more we might do on this front.

Jacinda Ardern Instagram - Fantastic to speak with the new Prime Minister Elect of Australia, Anthony Albanese. We had the chance to speak briefly in the early hours of the morning, right before he acknowledged his supporters. Today it was a chance to talk about pressing international events and upcoming meetings, and our own plans to meet. We had a strong working relationship with the outgoing Prime Minister, Scott Morrison, and last night I thanked him sincerely for that. I know that strong relationship will continue with @albomp and I’m looking forward to catching up face to face soon!
Jacinda Ardern Instagram - I will admit to waking up this morning and briefly wondering where I was - but I can confirm we’ve made it to New York for the United Nations General Assembly! A busy day with the opening session, a Food Security event and co-leading the Christchurch Call Leaders Summit on ending terrorism and violent extremism online, but a great day nonetheless! A genuine highlight was catching moments with leaders I’ve been lucky enough to get to know over the years. It’s been a while since we’ve seen each other face to face. It’s nice to be back, even when the challenges confronting the globe are significant.

Jacinda Ardern Instagram - Dad was in charge of the birthday cake this year, and given our now five year old changed her mind about what she wanted no less than ten times, he did a great job of pulling this one together (especially after a long day of filming.) Happy Birthday to our girl, and great work @clarkegayford - you’re both the greatest. 🎈🎈
Jacinda Ardern Instagram - It’s 4.30am at home in New Zealand, and I’m sitting in the “green room” at the United Nations listening to the Prime Minister of the Netherlands and preparing to deliver a national statement on behalf of New Zealand. Definitely don’t expect anyone to be tuning in live, but I’ll post the text here later (in case anyone wants to have a read.)
Jacinda Ardern Instagram - There’s a special kind of homesickness I’ve been reminded of lately- one that is mixed in with pride. Watching the Olympics and seeing our athletes excel on the world stage, through their incredible skills and talent, but also their spirit and sportsmanship, reminded me all over again that there’s nowhere quite like home. ❤️ A warm and huge congratulations to everyone who represented Aotearoa in Paris so far. It was truly something else to watch. And now, good luck to our Paralympians!
Jacinda Ardern Instagram - Happy Mother’s Day everyone! It’s not even midday and already I’d say ours has been a mixed bag. Neve was so excited that it was Mother’s Day she got up nice and early to share this lovely card! (Who doesn’t love being compared to hot lava…) The downside is Clarke woke up feeling a bit average and has tested positive for COVID, so we have 7 days of family time ahead of us! I’m fine and so is Neve. I’ll be working from home so anyone who watches question time, or is attending my Business NZ speech on Wednesday, you’ll still see me remotely!

Otherwise, a happy Mother’s Day to everyone who plays mum in anyones life. You are as magical as hot lava is to a three year old!
Jacinda Ardern Instagram - I love airports. Always have. I think it’s the reunions? Or watching people excited to travel abroad or to come home. Our airports haven’t been the same these last two years. They’ve welcomed over 200,000 people home, but that’s a fraction of the activity they usually see. On the 28th of February - that changes. That’s the day we see kiwis and other eligible travellers able to come back without going through MIQ. Two weeks later those same travellers from the rest of the world can come through, and from there we keep reopening. Today I talked to staff about all the planning that’s been underway, including the welcome home packs everyone will receive complete with their Rapid Antigen Tests. The staff were ready, and really excited to see our airports start to return to what we know and love them for. Places for reunions, adventures and home comings.

Jacinda Ardern Instagram - Can’t say I expected this…..a faux pas with the old mic in parliament has turned into $100,100 for the Prostate Cancer Foundation. My thanks to David for being a good sport and to everyone who placed a bid. And to everyone, Merry Christmas!
Jacinda Ardern Instagram - Few cheeky interviews this morning with Australian media to promote the fact that from 12 April Aussie tourists can visit us again. Just happened to have this amazing backdrop on hand…it wasn’t a hard sell 😊
Jacinda Ardern Instagram - Happy International Women’s Day! I am exceptionally proud to work alongside these amazing Labour MPs. They put their heart and soul into their work, determined to leave New Zealand a better place for everyone, including those who come after us. To the women who came before us - thank you. Just by being here you left a path that was a little easier to walk.
Jacinda Ardern Instagram - Kua hinga te tōtara o Te Waonui a Tāne.

Tūheitia Pōtatau Te Wherowhero VII, Kingi. You have been an advocate for Maori, for fairness, justice and prosperity. You wanted children, young people, and those who have been left behind to have opportunities and hope. You worked tirelessly on building understanding and knowledge of our shared history and in doing so, strengthening Aotearoa. And amongst all of that, you made everyone feel welcome - including me. Nga mihi nui, Kingi. Rest easy now.

Jacinda Ardern Instagram - Quick stop in San Francisco for meetings including with Gavin Newsom, the Governor of California, where we signed a Memorandum of Cooperation. It covers areas like zero emission vehicles, energy storage and smart grids….and it was signed at the San Francisco Botanical Garden where there is a beautiful New Zealand section! A really excellent meeting with the added benefit of being outside a meeting room 😊
Jacinda Ardern Instagram - “Ukraine wants peace…the world wants peace.” A powerful speech today from the President of Ukraine at the United Nations General Assembly. I also had the opportunity to briefly meet Ukraine’s First Lady, Olena Zelensky and have a longer meeting with the Prime Minister. The PM was really clear about how devastating the illegal war in Ukraine has been, but at the same time he was also clear that New Zealand’s contribution and response has been strong and appreciated.

Jacinda Ardern Instagram - Happy Easter everyone! May it be filled with things that bring you joy (just to be clear, I did not find these stairs joyful. The view was lovely, but I was too puffed to take a picture of that 😊)
Jacinda Ardern Instagram - Ahhh daylight savings. Poor Clarke was up multiple times with our small person, so when they both were finally getting some sleep at 6am and I realised retrieving my shoes would wake them, there was only one option. Gumboots to work. 😂
Jacinda Ardern Instagram - Thank you to those who sent me a message today. I meant what I said to the media when they asked - I feel incredibly humbled to be made a Dame Grand Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit.

I was in two minds about accepting this acknowledgement. So many of the things we went through as a nation over the last five years were about all of us rather than one individual. But I have heard that said by so many kiwis who I have encouraged to accept an honour over the years. And so for me this a way to say thank you - to my family, to my colleagues, and to the people who supported me to take on the most challenging and rewarding role of my life. And to celebrate, I spent a bit of time this morning spinning my niece around on a Roktopus in the rain. As you do. I hope everyone enjoyed their King’s Birthday Weekend!
Jacinda Ardern Instagram - Late last night I heard news of the horrific robbery and homicide in Sandringham. I’m continuing to seek updates from the police and understand they will be sharing any new information later today. For now, what I do know is that no one should fear their loved one going to work. No one should have to confront such senseless violence or crime. To the family who today mourns their lost loved one - I am so sorry this has happened. I know our Sandringham Community is a tight knit one, and they will be feeling this deeply too. Our job as Government is to make sure those who commit such crimes are brought to justice, and to try and prevent them occurring at all. On both counts, we will keep doing all we can.
Jacinda Ardern Instagram - When I left the role of PM, one of the things I wanted to keep working on was the Christchurch Call to Action - a community of leaders, tech companies and civil society committed to addressing violent extremism and terrorism online. It has always been a multi stakeholder group, but the day to day running of the organisation has primarily been funded by the New Zealand Government.

The NZ Government of the day continues to support the mission of the Christchurch Call, which began after our Muslim community experienced a terrorist attack on 15 March - but to be a truly multi stakeholder body the secretariat will move out of the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet, and instead become a separate legal entity with charitable status.

I have advised the Prime Minister that it makes sense for my role to change, and at the same time the new organisation is stood up I will no longer be Special Envoy to the Prime Minister but rather Patron of the organisation as a whole.

The Christchurch Call has at its core a simple mission - ensuring a free, open and secure internet without compromising human rights and fundamental freedoms, including freedom of expression, while also eliminating terrorist and violent extremist content. There has been a lot achieved by the call over the last five years, including (to name just a few): (cont in comments)
Jacinda Ardern Instagram - Happy Father’s Day! The dad in our house had to work today so he gets a rain check on breakfast in bed. Found this photo of a recent scooter outing in the meantime. The only thing better than a scooter ride for a four year old, is one where your dad pushes you up the hills. Lucky kid, and a lovely dad x
Jacinda Ardern Instagram - LOVED being home over summer. Full of family time, sun (some times), good food, and the famous broad-walk Christmas tree in Gisborne. Now we’re back in -8 degree weather and it’s all a distant memory. 😂❤️ ☀️❄️

Jacinda Ardern Instagram - And just like that, we have a six year old. I was on cake duty this year. So far, nothing has outdone the legend of Dad’s TV cake of 2021, but there’s still time 😅
Jacinda Ardern Instagram - Today my friend and old colleague, Grant Robertson, announced his retirement. I have known Grant for the better part of twenty years. In many ways, I credit him with my journey to becoming a Member of Parliament. When I was a list candidate for the Labour Party, it was your ranking on the regional list that determined your success. As the brand new candidate for Wellington Central, Grant was the hot favourite for the top spot. As nominations began, someone stood to put Grant’s name forward. Almost instantly Grant stood up and announced to the room “I don’t wish to be ranked, until Jacinda Ardern is.” That story says so much about who Grant is. He is selfless, thoughtful, incredibly intelligent, fiercely loyal, and to top it off, one of the funniest people I know. As Finance Minister, he has so many achievements - the establishment of the well being framework is just one of them. He was a champion of changing the way we worked for our people and our planet, and through Covid he showed such an intense commitment to making sure people were properly supported throughout. I can’t imagine having worked with anyone better. Thank you Grant, we all owe you a debt of gratitude.

Spending a few hours packing and sorting papers for the archives, and then this afternoon I give my last speech to parliament (it’s at 5.30pm on Freeview channel 31 if you’re interested in tuning in.) Lots of mixed emotions…and a very long list of things to do!

Jacinda Ardern - 114.9K Likes - It is with great sadness that New Zealand wakes to the news of the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

Jacinda Ardern - 114.7K Likes - Despite best efforts, unfortunately I’ve joined the rest of my family and have tested positive for COVID 19.

Jacinda Ardern - 101K Likes - When we boarded the NZDF plane to head to the East Asia Summit this afternoon, I asked the crew whether they were expecting any updates on the Black Ferns game while we were mid air.

Jacinda Ardern - 93.8K Likes - In the early hours of this morning I had the privilege of speaking on behalf of New Zealand at the United Nations.

Jacinda Ardern - 84.4K Likes - A quick update!

Jacinda Ardern - 80.7K Likes - I’m pretty sporadic on here these days.

Jacinda Ardern - 80.2K Likes - When I left parliament there were a few questions I got asked quite often - are your family happy to have you back (mostly 😂) and will you write about your time in office?

Jacinda Ardern - 74.2K Likes - Absolutely devastated to see the news that the former Prime Minister of Japan, Shinzo Abe, has passed away after being shot at a rally.

Introduce targeted travel bans against Russian Government officials and other individuals associated with the Russian invasion of Ukraine, in line with a number of our partners;

Jacinda Ardern - 68.8K Likes - At 6am this morning the police began an operation to clear the parliament and surrounding area of an unlawful occupation that has gone on for 22 days.

This includes music therapy, music programs in respite and palliative care, music education programs (particularly in low decile environments), music programs in prisons and rehabilitation and music in aged care to name but a few initiatives they support.

As he noted, there are no bigger or smaller countries, only those who react. We discussed what ongoing support is needed, including humanitarian assistance, which New Zealand has contributed to. We will continue to do what we can to show our support for Ukraine and it’s people – as the whole world must.

Jacinda Ardern - 60.1K Likes - This year was my turn on the birthday cake (or what I’ve come to know as the ‘stress bomb’) Neve requested a Ladybug, and after several disasters underneath A LOT of icing, this was the result. All edible aside from the eyes (I resorted to sharpie on lollipops 😳) Happy Birthday Neve Te Aroha!

Jacinda Ardern - 59K Likes - Just at the airport and finally have a chance to post about the last two days in London!

📸Joy Asico

Jacinda Ardern - 48.7K Likes - It’s been a busy week and I’ve been pretty slack posting about it!

Jacinda Ardern - 47.2K Likes - Deeply saddened to hear the news that Nikki Kaye has passed away.

Jacinda Ardern - 44.5K Likes - I will admit to waking up this morning and briefly wondering where I was - but I can confirm we’ve made it to New York for the United Nations General Assembly!

Jacinda Ardern - 42K Likes - I love airports.

It covers areas like zero emission vehicles, energy storage and smart grids….and it was signed at the San Francisco Botanical Garden where there is a beautiful New Zealand section! A really excellent meeting with the added benefit of being outside a meeting room 😊

Jacinda Ardern - 37.4K Likes - Thank you to those who sent me a message today.

Jacinda Ardern - 37.4K Likes - Late last night I heard news of the horrific robbery and homicide in Sandringham.

Jacinda Ardern - 36.5K Likes - When I left the role of PM, one of the things I wanted to keep working on was the Christchurch Call to Action - a community of leaders, tech companies and civil society committed to addressing violent extremism and terrorism online.

The only thing better than a scooter ride for a four year old, is one where your dad pushes you up the hills. Lucky kid, and a lovely dad x

Jacinda Ardern - 35.2K Likes - Today my friend and old colleague, Grant Robertson, announced his retirement.
