Caption : TAYLOR SWIFT ENDORSES VP KAMALA HARRIS @taylorswift today broke her silence on the presidential election, endorsing VP Kamala Harris. Here’s what Swift said in her endorsement: Like many of you, I watched the debate tonight. If you haven’t already, now is a great time to do your research on the issues at hand and the stances these candidates take on the topics that matter to you the most. As a voter, I make sure to watch and read everything I can about their proposed policies and plans for this country. Recently I was made aware that AI of ‘me’ falsely endorsing Donald Trump’s presidential run was posted to his site. It really conjured up my fears around AI, and the dangers of spreading misinformation. It brought me to the conclusion that I need to be very transparent about my actual plans for this election as a voter. The simplest way to combat misinformation is with the truth. I will be casting my vote for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in the 2024 Presidential Election. I’m voting for @kamalaharris because she fights for the rights and causes I believe need a warrior to champion them. I think she is a steady-handed, gifted leader and I believe we can accomplish so much more in this country if we are led by calm and not chaos. I was so heartened and impressed by her selection of running mate @timwalz, who has been standing up for LGBTQ rights, IVF, and a woman’s right to her own body for decades. I’ve done my research, and I’ve made my choice. Your research is all yours to do, and the choice is yours to make. I also want to say, especially to first time voters: Remember that in order to vote, you have to be registered! I also find it’s much easier to vote early. I’ll link where to register and find early voting dates and info in my story. With love and hope, Taylor Swift Childless Cat LadyLikes : 31775

Caption : A stunning Oval Office confrontation today. Trump and VP Vance accused the Ukraine President of failing to show the US proper appreciation for its support in the war with Russia, repeatedly saying he didn’t appear thankful. Zelensky subsequently left the White House before a mineral deal was signed – the purpose for his visit. A planned presser was also canceled. Above is what Zelenskyy posted to X following the meeting. Trump also posted on Truth Social: “I have determined that President Zelenskyy is not ready for Peace…I don’t want advantage, I want PEACE. He disrespected the United States of America in its cherished Oval Office. He can come back when he is ready for Peace”. It’s unclear where negotiations go from here.Likes : 22618

Caption : AP REPORT: HOSPITALS DENY EMERGENCY CARE TO PREGNANT WOMEN IN CRISIS We are sharing this today as the U.S. Supreme Court hears a case challenging a federal law, EMTLA. The law requires hospitals to treat patients in crisis – including those in need of abortion services. —— An astounding new @apnews article by Amanda Seitz reveals how harsh abortion bans have intimidated many hospitals and emergency rooms into denying emergency care to pregnant women in crisis. Seitz shares the stories of women who were denied care, who lost their pregnancy in stillbirth, and were forced to suffer needless pain and indignity because healthcare professionals feared prosecution under abortion bans. And the AP reports that since the overturn of Roe, there’s been a spike in complaints that pregnant women have been turned away from emergency rooms — even though federal law requires ERs to treat patients in critical condition and/or active labor. The federal law that requires that is the Emergency Medical Treatment and Labor Act. EMTALA will go before SCOTUS Wednesday as the Biden administration argues that, under EMTALA, Idaho’s strict ban on abortion even in emergencies is illegal. Jennifer Klein, director of the White House Gender Policy Council @genderpolicycouncil46 said in a statement that “all patients, including women who are experiencing pregnancy-related emergencies, should have access to emergency medical care required” under EMTALA. If the Court sides with the Biden admin, Idaho (and other states) must provide abortion services for women in medical emergencies. If SCOTUS finds for Idaho, women in Idaho will have to go to different states to receive reproductive care including in acute emergencies when every minute they’re denied care could be life changing. Do you think people in your world are aware of the stakes here? Would they be surprised that the Dobbs ruling is putting basic care and women’s lives at risk like this? What is happening in your state to protect women? Please comment and share this.Likes : 19460

Caption : BEYONCÉ TOPS COUNTRY CHARTS @beyonce made history this week as the first Black woman to top Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart with her single “Texas Hold ‘Em.” Her other new release, “16 Carriages,” is number 9 on the chart. Beyoncé is also one of only two women solo artists to debut singles at number 1 on the country charts (the other is Taylor Swift, naturally). And Beyoncé is the first woman to top both the country and R&B/hip-hop charts since they were established in 1958. Is there anything she can’t do? Both new singles are from her new album which drops in March. The new album’s title has yet to be released, but Beyoncé has referred to it as “Act II” of her 2022 album Renaissance.Likes : 16422

Caption : VP HARRIS IS THE DEMOCRATIC NOMINEE The head of the Democratic National Committee says VP Harris officially secured enough delegates to become the party’s nominee for president. The delegates’ online voting process doesn’t officially end until Monday, but Harris has now secured more than the 2,350 votes needed to become the nominee. She was running unopposed, so this is not a surprise, but it is notable she clinched the votes just one day after voting began.Likes : 15177

Caption : NORTH DAKOTA STRIKES DOWN ABORTION BAN A North Dakota court just ruled the state’s total abortion ban unconstitutional, violating residents’ rights to health care autonomy and privacy. The Center for Reproductive Rights, which was a lead plaintiff in the suit that overturned the law, said the new ruling “means it is now much safer to be pregnant in North Dakota.” Judge Bruce Romanick wrote in his opinion that “The North Dakota Constitution guarantees each individual, including women, the fundamental right to make medical judgments affecting his or her bodily integrity, health, and autonomy, in consultation with a chosen health care provider free from government interference. This section necessarily and more specifically protects a woman’s right to procreative autonomy — including to seek and obtain a pre-viability abortion.” There are currently no abortion clinics in North Dakota, but this ruling means doctors at hospitals can provide patients emergency care without fear of prosecution and penalty. Does this ruling surprise you? Let us know in comments.Likes : 14699

Caption : IT COSTS WHAT?! From housing to eggs – prices are skyrocketing again. Brace yourself. Higher tariffs could mean still bigger price hikes. Egg inflation has been a big driver of rising food costs. It accounted for nearly 2/3rds of last month’s food price increase according to the US Bureau of Labor and Statistics. Bird flu is largely to blame- fewer chickens means fewer eggs. Drought, high grain prices and interest rates are pushing record-high prices for meat products including ground beef and steak. Housing is another. The latest Consumer Price Index showed shelter inflation — a measure of the average cost of US housing — rose to 4.4% year-over-year in January. It remains a major factor in keeping core inflation high. It’s a lot. In need of some light relief? Swipe to see our favorite inflation memes. Sometimes you’ve just got to laughLikes : 12330

Caption : Members of the House Democratic Women’s Caucus wore suffragette white to symbolize their commitment to women’s rights and in particular reproductive rights. President Biden spent some time in his remarks on the Supreme Court’s ruling rolling back reproductive rights – and the political impact. President Biden said: “In its decision to overturn Roe v Wade, the supreme court majority wrote: ‘Women are not without electoral or political power.’ No kidding. Clearly, those bragging about overturning Roe v Wade have no clue about the power of women in America. They found out, though, when reproductive freedom was on the ballot and won in 2022, 2023, and they will find out again, in 2024. The President invited to the speech a woman who had to travel out of Texas to get an abortion when her health was in danger. Also in the chamber, another woman whose IVF procedure was put on hold in Alabama after the state supreme court put those who provide IVF services in danger of civil litigatin. It was a feisty speech overall. The President also challenged Republicans on tax policy (vowing to ensure billionaires never have a lower % tax than working Americans); and immigration (asking republicans to support the border security bill they once wanted) among other issues. The Democratic women’s caucus posted the following message on X: “For tonight’s State of the Union address, we’re in white and wearing ‘Fighting for Reproductive Freedom’ pins. Our message is clear: we won’t stop fighting until all women can access the health care they need to control their own lives and futures.”Likes : 11474

Caption : SCHOOL SHOOTER’S PARENT GUILTY OF INVOLUNTARY MANSLAUGHTER A Michigan jury finds Jennifer Crumbley, the mother of a school shooter, guilty of four counts of involuntary manslaughter. It took just 10 hours for the jury to reach this verdict. It is the first time in US history a parent has been convicted for the shooting crimes of a child. Crumbley could be sentenced to as many as 15 years in prison. Her son shot and killed 4 and wounded 6 others at Oxford HIgh School in 2021. He had exhibited worrying signs of violent inclinations, but his parents still bought him a gun and failed to tell the school about it while discussing his behavior (He’d drawn a graphic picture of a shooting.) The prosecution said that his parents could have prevented the shooting by taking “just the smallest steps.” Defense attorneys blamed the shooter’s father, the school, and the shooter for the crime and warned that finding the mother guilty would make parents liable for all manner of actions by their kids. The shooter’s father, is also charged with involuntary manslaughter and will stand trial separately. Do you think parents of school shooters should face criminal charges? If so do you think this will help prevent other shootings or do you see it, instead, as purely about punishing the parents?Likes : 10984

But this is getting a lot of oxygen and it could spiral into something larger. So we figure we should give you the basics now. MAGA stars Rep. Loomer’s track record includes a laundry list of Islamophobic hate and 9/11 denialism plus new attacks on VP Kamala Harris’s Indian heritage. On the other hand, MTG has a lot to say about Jewish space lasers. It’s laughable for either of these women to shame anyone else for hate speech, but I guess the election’s getting to all of us. Caption : U.S. TO REQUIRE CONSENT FOR PELVIC EXAMS, 4 YEARS AFTER SCANDAL REVEALED The US government says hospitals now need written consent to perform vaginal exams or risk losing Medicare funding. This, after a @nytimes investigation found that some teaching hospitals were conducting medically unnecessary pelvic exams on sedated patients without consent. And it’s been happening for years. The Department of Health and Human Services @hhsgov is cracking down four years after the investigation was published in 2020. Backstory: Medical students at teaching hospitals learn from observing doctors and by practicing procedures themselves. In service of this education, some healthcare workers have conducted pelvic exams at hospitals without patients’ consent or knowledge, while the patients are sedated for other procedures. These extremely invasive exams involve doctors inserting their hands into patients’ genitals. The exams can also cause lingering discomfort and pain if conducted when a patient isn’t conscious and able to say when something hurts. It should be obvious that a pelvic exam without consent is a violation, but this practice has been normalized in many healthcare environments. HHS has now established guidelines to ensure hospitals comply with their rule and obtain consent for these procedures. We will link to an article in stories so you can read more details. If. you’re finding this post long after our story has expired — google “She Didn’t Want a Pelvic Exam. She Received One Anyway” by the New York Times. Have you ever felt you were violated by a professional in the medical setting? Does this practice surprise you? #womenshealth #mybody #mybodymyrules #consent #consentmattersLikes : 10332

Caption : ALABAMA V IN-VITRO FERTILIZATION After the Supreme Court ruling overturning Roe v. Wade, many fertility doctors and advocates sounded the alarm that the next target could be in-vitro fertilization. Now, Alabama is realizing those fears. The Alabama Supreme Court ruled that frozen IVF embryos are legally “children,” citing the Bible in its ruling. Apparently, life begins at conception – even if conception occurs in a Petri dish. The legal implications of this ruling are many and chilling. We don’t know yet what this means for families in Alabama who currently have frozen embryos stored in the state’s five fertility clinics, but beyond that — this is a worrying precedent to set in any state. Other states decide to adopt similar measures, throwing into doubt the future of IVF for many who need it.Likes : 9912

The current frontrunner is Claudia Sheinbaum, a former governor of Mexico City and a protégée of current President López Obrador. She is a scientist by training with a PhD in energy engineering and has written extensively on sustainable development and climate change. If elected, she would also be Mexico’s first Jewish president. The other top contender, Xóchitl Gálvez, is a fierce critic of López Obrador. Gálvez is a senator and computer engineer who also previously directed the National Institute for Indigenous Peoples. A third (male) candidate, Jorge Álvarez Máynez, is also vying for the presidency but polling behind Sheinbaum and Gálvez.Likes : 8742

Caption : NYTIMES INSTAGRAM Check this out. The @nytimes is up with a piece on Instagram becoming a home for news! We agree Instagram has a troubled relationship with news and news providers (or maybe we should say a troubling relationship….) Thank you to @whatsupna and @mike_isaac for featuring News Not Noise. When we started News Not Noise in 2018, I only knew of one account posting news on Instagram — a Texas reporter with the account @smarthernews whose name I’ve sadly forgotten. At the time there was no other national journalist doing this. It was before reels existed and before TikTok videos were a thing. We took a big leap, started sharing news this way and proved there is an audience on Instagram hungry for fact-based information, curated and told clearly from a friendly voice. That paved the way for so many others to follow. I’m honored to be mentioned alongside news creators @mosheh @sharonsaysso and @emilyinyourphone in this article. Our work requires innovation, creativity, and constant adaptation. We are so glad we’ve proven that this model works, and we couldn’t have done it without you showing up every day, confirming that people do want to be part of a community that cares about being informed. That cares about facts, expertise, and our impact on the world. This is more important than ever in an election year. And Instagram is increasingly making it difficult to reach an audience. So to help us stay strong and reach new people — I’m making a request of everyone. If you care about the work we do to bring you calm, fact-based news even as the IG algorithm suppresses it: ⭐️ Please send this account to 3 friends who don’t follow us and ask them to follow. (You could send it to more than 3 if you’d like 😊) And you can read the NYT article at the link in stories & bio. Thanks for making this such a fantastic community! Photo by @elizabethrweinberg So I don’t usually do this but this was a special occasion. So: Thank you @mishelbrownbeauty for such pretty makeup and @coryaaronscott for always making my hair glow. #gratitude #creativity #innovationLikes : 7993

Caption : Richard Serra, one of the most celebrated sculptors of the modern era died today. He was 85. The New York Times reports he died of pneumonia. I remember tagging along as my parents drove to see – or rather experience – Serra’s sculptures. Sometimes much to my frustration, my parents would drive an hour out of our way to visit a Serra installation. (My parents really liked art.) Spending time with a Serra sculpture is a visceral experience. They are massive works that take up space and allow you to experience awe, endless perspective shifts, and sometimes a little anxiety as you move through them (they’re made of rough hulking metal, sometimes pitched at an angle with no visible screws or means of support). Serra’s work gained attention in the 1960s and acclaim in the 1970s and 1980s. In a @nytimes obituary for Serra, Roberta Smith describes his work this way: “Mr. Serra’s most celebrated works had some of the scale of ancient temples or sacred sites and the inscrutability of landmarks like Stonehenge. But if these massive forms had a mystical effect, it came not from religious belief but from the distortions of space created by their leaning, curving or circling walls and the frankness of their materials. This was something new in sculpture; a flowing, circling geometry that had to be moved through and around to be fully experienced. Mr. Serra said his work required a lot of “walking and looking,” or “peripatetic perception.” It was, he said, “viewer centered”: Its meanings were to be arrived at by individual exploration and reflection. For anyone questioning why I’m posting on this: culture is news. It’s worth pausing to recognize the creative minds that recast what we consider beautiful and allow us to experience awe. Caption : FIRST TRADITIONAL PRESS INTERVIEW AS NOMINEE VP Kamala Harris has agreed to sit down for a traditional press interview alongside nominee Gov Tim Walz – and they’ll do it with @cnn’s @danabashcnn . The political press has been clamoring for an opportunity to interview Harris ever since she entered the race. This will be her first as the nominee. The interview comes as the traditional media finds itself at odds with other media personalities who are getting more access to the candidates — especially content creators who tend to promote the campaign’s messages online. Whatever knocks you have against the DC press, a sit-down like this has advantages for voters. Serious reporters who cover Washington talk to experts and electeds on all sides. They have historic knowledge of institutions and a memory for what policy has been attempted before; they also understand where the votes are and therefore can engage candidates on questions including: can this get passed? What are the costs and unintended consequences? A sit down like this allows voters to hear the candidates speak on topics that matter but which the campaign might not have addressed and it’s a way to pressure test the candidates — to assess their readiness for the rough and tumble of DC politics — and their ideas. As a matter of strategy, there are obvious downsides to an interview: if the candidates stumble badly that provides material the opposition can use to its advantage. On the other hand, refusing to do an interiew would become an issue on its own. And Harris said she’d grant one this month — so failing to do so would become a big THING. A note on Dana Bash: she is a serious, substantive reporter who has covered multiple presidential campaigns as well as Capitol Hill for years. I worked alongside her and can attest that she knows more about what’s happening in DC than many members of Congress. I’m personally delighted to see that the campaign granted this interview to a woman reporter. I can’t tell you how rare that is. You can tune in to see the interview Thursday night on CNN.Likes : 7224

Swifties have taken to social media to discuss fan theories on whether or not the figure is meant to be Harris and if the post is an unofficial endorsement of the Democratic nominee. Fans are trying to piece together if the figure is one of Swift’s many background artists caught in motion, or if there is a deeper meaning behind the image. Could Taylor Swift make a surprise appearance at the Democratic Convention this month? Is this a subtle response to JD Vance’s childless cat lady comments? While the post has led to speculation, Taylor Swift has yet to officially endorse anyone for the 2024 presidential election. She previously endorsed President Joe Biden in the 2020 election. What do you think of this silhouette? Is it a coincidental shot of a background artist, or a more cryptic message?Likes : 6314
