Caption : If I could change the law,I’d do this NOW: #1. Social media accounts become legal only at age 17. #2. Parents banned from opening up child accounts and profiting exploiting & grooming because that’s what many are doing to their own loved ones for money & fame. #3. Mobile phones can be purchased at age 18. #4. Parent can access to ‘block’ receiving texts and calls only if buying for child safety. No access to social accounts. #5. Governments, owners of social apps and mobile companies to provide literacy on such devices to educate adults. Signing after it has been read so a 2 part process. #6. Ban on all cellphones during school hours. Confiscation if rule broken. #7. Bullying via cellphone will result in suspension and possibly expulsion. Parents you want to protect your children mentally emotionally physically it starts here with YOU first. Although the above is not in place yet, it is my hope YOU do all you can to protect your own children in this virtual space because it’s not going away, so how will you step UP. You wouldn’t throw your children in a room full of pedophiles would you or a room full of sexual traffickers or a room full of criminals wanting to exploit & harm your child, or a room full of bullies ready to kick your childs head in. Or a room full of people throwing verbal abuse at your child,chipping away at their personal appearance. Wake up, wake up. Impacted by this disease personally and professionally, helping families through cancer practically, I wanted to leave with you a few tips of advice that you might find useful should you find yourself in the position of sharing such news. To Catherine and ALL families solidering through my deepest heart felt wishes of strength courage, compassion and resilience for a full recovery. 🙏🏾🤍 Jo Frost Global Parenting Expert and Childcare Specialist. Telling a Child Someone They Love Has Cancer Is An Emotional Position To Find Oneself. Be honest and open and in a place that is more comfortable for them if possible. Use words they will understand, this depends on their age and their understanding of the disease. Find the balance between too much information and too little,opening up the opportunity to ask questions and curiosity. Explain the physical changes they might see, this helps them to expect when changes occur. Explain cancer is a serious illness and that there are different treatments and remain optimistic because this is still keeping the conversation real whilst living very hopeful. Let them have open opportunities to ask questions and express their feelings at different times beyond the time you sit down together. Children might blame themselves and ask if it was them who caused it and so it is very important to state that people of all walks of life experience such diagnose of Cancer. Caption : Brain development/ structure in the early years,0-5, how it thrives through human loving interaction,the function of the brain and its ignition throughout the teen years, is it truly any suprise we are seeing a rise in the numbers of some types of Neuro Divergence parallel to the over extended use of technology from the get go? I don’t think so families. Baby media makes no significant impact. They smile & respond to the pitch, the tone,the interaction a parent may engage with them. The circuit of the brains ability to develop is arrested through over use of screens with Toddlers and their language,comprehension can become delayed. 7 – 11 yrs with impaired simple excutive functioning tasks. Digital dementia. Teens and their lack of confidence and their ability to make simply rational decisions, anxiety and social challenges increasing. And all ages struggling severely with emotional regulation. This is not a coincidence, no. We are just now all seeing the impact of brains that have been use to unplugged activity. The brain is on overdrive,malfunctioning and it’s revealing its ugly head through our children…and quite frankly adults too. This is a fact for all children. Our brains need,love,nurture, connections, micro extreme enjoyment, SLEEP, the ability to process and store or delete and only small doses of technology if any for the youngest regarding entertainment and education. If you think none of us are addicted then technology is smarter than an A -class drug because everybody is scrolling getting a fix without even thinking they are. How long can you really go without feeling the urge to pick up? Do you feel agitated if you can’t? How present are you in the REAL physical WORLD? Do you take your phone with you every where? Expect immediate responses from others? How many excuses will you find after reading this about you and your cellphone? How many times do your children prize your face away from phone to them? Caption : Let us all agree that EVERY child needs a parent who will do morally right by them. Learn to become more attuned and connected. Uphold boundaries but also deliver on their word. Build trust with following through and lovingly develop more patience to understand them better and so much more. GP was a rebrand name that i believe has back fired on methods I’ve been teaching publicly for over 2 decades and might I add many other professionals too. So many parents come to my private practice looking to untangle and course correct from them saying they have been gentle parenting. Parents need to know the difference with Parenting styles Authoritative is assertive behavior that fosters two way respectful loving relationships, with consequences…yes children do need to learn accountability. Authoritarian is strict one way street,iron hand,no relationship with what parents today call punishment…not a style I’ve ever seen fit to raise a child. Let’s not use these 2 words Gentle Parenting to cause a family war between parents needing to feel right, let’s support eachother, it’s hard enough as it is out here, we need eachothers support as compassionate neighbors,community, spirit to uplift eachother. Your child is yours but all children are ours together. They needs us adults more now than ever in this new tech era. Duty of care requires proffesionals like myself and resources like child services to be mindful of the subtle signs that show when a child is living in or being neglected and a parent needs the extra help they may feel too much pride to ask for. Here is what you can immediately do: Keep your fridge clean Your child’s bedding washed every 2 weeks. Towels every week Bathrooms cleaned The home Toys. Clothes Nails, toes, hair, teeth etc. You get what I’m saying here. I know teachers do because they see it. No excuses parents, go dollar store if you need to to buy soap. When you show respect for yourself, your home and your child by doing, they too will find it for themselves! Caption : The audacity of my mum,she goes abroad too often! My mom says she can’t babysit on a weekend after only looking after my child 4 days a week! The emails flow with entitled parents thinking it’s their parents job, the grandparents should facilitate their life choices beyond raising them, it’s astounding truly. I know many countries are drastically underserved with consideration from governments to fix the childcare crisis,and many politicians don’t see that it’s an educational crisis for our very young at a time they are rapidly learning,whilst parents are out there needing to work to survive. The subject matter remains a 🔥 one,shouldn’t we be letting grandparents be simply grandparents, have they not earned that on the wheel of life? What’s your thoughts on this matter,please share ? Children sense this energy they know when your behaviour is not authentic and grounded. When your words and the ENERGY of your actions don’t line up, you force them every day to have to recalibrate what’s ‘real’ & what’s not from you. Please parents less camera,less likes, more off camera love & connection. Your children shouldn’t have to work. It takes exceptionally experienced skilled work to ground a family to create a space that’s so intimate and real one can be truly themselves and let go, surrender, trust me I know. Armchair, permissive parenting, too afraid to do the right thing because we are sooooo afraid our children will hate us, too afraid to handle the situation at the playground whilst the other parent looks at you thinking to themselves, why have you allowed your child to hit mine without any repercussions, restaurant owners placing fees with children who have parents that don’t care about other people’s shared space. Teachers getting mouthed off by 7 year olds,leaving the proffesion because it’s not what they signed up for. Flight attendants apologizing for parents who allow their children to keep kicking seat ahead. Shop owners watching children bounce, break and touch everything. Parents parents I love you but you got to start doing your bit, both can exist. It’s gone too far for some. Caption : UNBELIEVABLE that this entire country has different laws depending on the particular state of how much time a child can play at school unstructured. California are following through on a 30 minute law. THAT’S NOT ENOUGH! I’m just absolutely dumbfounded at the lack of empathy and understanding of what our children need from state officals. Every school across this nation needs a minimum of a1hr lunch break and 2 x 20 min morning and afternoon break. Children are NOT robots. Also when you then start to look at those children with nerodiverse challenges is it any surprise they are suffering more in silence…they are expected to push through unrealistic expectations in this type of classroom setting. It is not good enough,I hope all you parents out there push this issue state wide. Even those incarcerated get 1hr that’s more than our children, it’s shameful!! And all in the name of wanting to academically catch up with other countries and we wonder why our children have mental health issues. This certainly contributes. Too much pressure, look at China! Caption : Babies & Toddlers on iPad’s constantly at home,in strollers, the electronic babysitters to keep them quite & ‘manage’ them. Teens with no boundaries to respect, stuck in anxious patterns of withdrawals from their phones. Children playing videogames far too old for them and inappropriate for their age. Parents choosing to buy selective foods for your children over and over again, that you know consistently deep down is simply not going to help them in the long run. Buying phones for your tweenagers because you ‘feel’ bad they will be left out. Sharenting every woe on your childrens delicate shoulders when there used to be something called ‘adult talk’. Taking your child to a rated R movie hoping they ‘fall asleep’ whilst you watch. [yes this happens in the usa] Leaving guns laying around and not safely locked up,resulting in child fatalities [usa] Exploiting your children to make money on social media and robbing them of the freedom every child deserves. Bypassing unruly behaviour and simply not choosing to connect AND uphold boundaries and consequences. What happened to love & respect,empathy all these disciplines above. Parents listen,those who become defensive and find excuses,I ask you to STOP and put that energy into change. I’m just telling it straight,there’s much work to be done and I’m not the only one saying this,many therapists, teachers pediatricians and social workers share the same serious concerns with me. We are passionate,we care about YOU and your beautiful families, [ is there an emoj for passionate?] We must act now parents, we must put our families well being on the map,become more invested in changing where we are struggling,seek the help,the resources,if needs be. So many small changes will make a HUGE IMPACT. BTW – To those in government step up and make decisions that will educate & support our parents to do better.
