Caption : For the 3 months @qiyuwu was shooting 《那一年的除夕夜》, I saw him come home exhausted, with hardly much energy left to talk. Sometimes, his voice is hoarse, his eyes red, and I knew it must have been an emotional day. And so I got down to reading his scripts in the day while he was gone. As I flipped the pages, they read like your typical Mediacorp scripts — except his character was in every scene. Sometimes, both of them appear in the same scene. Filming this was going to be gruelling physically, but the emotional work? That’s something not written. And so I watched the magic he created on screen with the role. My heart aches along with him as he sits alone in the living room, pulls down the VR glasses and tears up. His emotions tugged me along through the screen. It’s been a long time since I watched an actor on local TV perform with such authenticity. As an actress, I know what he did was not an easy thing to do. And especially because I’m so familiar with the production process and everything that could interfere with the actor’s delivery. Preserving authenticity in every moment when scenes are shot out of sequence puts an actor’s calibre to the test. And so this is why this role is demanding. The unseen emotional work is heavier than any he has done. Even when he’s tired, on days he’s unwell, he pushes through. And his character shines so perfectly imperfect. As a fellow professional, I have great respect for him and so much admiration for his craft. In fact, I think he will shine like a gem on the global stage and bring to light a different type of Asian acting that the rest of the world has yet to see. As his wife, I am proud of his commitment and dedication, the encouraging messages from friends and fans, positive reviews from media practitioners and good feedback from the general public. He deserves every one of it. On the 7th day of Chinese New Year, let “Once Upon a New Year’s Eve” 《那一年的除夕夜》remind us of what should matter in our lives. #人日 Last episode tonight on Channel 8, 9pm or catch all of it on meWatch.Likes : 15724

Caption : 520还是不要晒恩爱。😆 For those who don’t know the significance of 520, it started as a Chinese slang for “I Love You”, and now it’s become an alternative to Valentine’s Day. While I’m not a fan of commercialised love, the truth is we sometimes get so caught up with life that we forget to show love in ways we used to do. Occasions like that allow us to recall what it was like when we first began… Happy 520 ♥️ !Likes : 15266

Our jobs are far from easy, but through the hardest times, I find the strength to sparkle each time, knowing that nothing matters more than my family. Last year, we returned to the city that holds so many memories, as a married couple celebrating our 10th anniversary. Reflecting on our journey together during an extensive interview with @sylvesterng was truly special. The chemistry we found with @jtjeremymimi and @marklawphotography helped us capture these poignant, filmic moments that I will treasure for years to come. It’s a beautiful full circle. Thank you @iconsingapore. The magazine is out now! 💜 🌿💫 #AnniversaryReflectionsLikes : 7072

Caption : For me, 2024 has been a year defined by relationships and connections. Each moment of the year brought unique opportunities to engage with people from all walks of life—those I barely knew, like KOLs, colleagues, and ministers; those I’ve known for years, like friends and family; and complete strangers, such as the guests on my podcast. This year, I’ve had countless conversations. Through my podcast What Do I Know (Season 3), I explored significant topics with experts I deeply wanted to learn from. On the Channel 8 TV show A Conversation with Minister, I briefly delved into the lives of our leaders, uncovering how their childhoods shaped them. My collaboration with PrettyFit and my daughter pushed me to articulate design ideas and bring them to life in ways I never had before. Then, in Q4, my foray into TikTok live-streaming thrusted me into uncharted waters, forcing me to confront just how much I didn’t know and to discover conversations I never even realized I was missing. Each of these experiences left an indelible mark, and one resounding takeaway stood out: effective communication is an incredibly difficult skill to master. Because communication is only as effective as the listener’s ability to grasp it in its intended context. And in a world full of noise, are we truly listening? Even if we think we are, how much of what we hear is distorted by our assumptions? Our understanding is shaped by our worldviews—products of our upbringing, life experiences, and the stories we absorb. If we filter the words we hear through our own context, rather than understanding the speaker’s intent, can the speaker still be considered an effective communicator? And can we call ourselves active listeners? These questions linger with me, making me hesitate to speak or write. How can I be certain you’ll understand? And if it’s not meant to be understood, why even verbalize it? Words and opinions hold no meaning without context, and finding someone who shares the same context feels increasingly rare. So, as I step into 2025, my chosen word is #silent. Not in an extreme sense, but in the hope that in silence, I might begin to hear more.Likes : 6916

Thanks to @chilliapicatering for catering to my guests’ various dietary restrictions and ensuring they had a sumptuous and delicious food selection to close the new year. As we sent the last guests off in the morning, and I fell into bed at 5.30 am, I thought about all who came through our doors and those who couldn’t make it. My heart is grateful. They have blessed our family with love, kindness, friendship, generosity and grace. Thank you all so much! I wish everyone a year of love and harmony! 元宵节快乐! 🏮🍡🧧 Ps: do u know what ZGM stands for?Likes : 6661

Each extra candle on the cake grants me another wish, and I’m sending one out to everyone celebrating with me: May you all bathe in the sparkle and light, too! Here’s to shared moments and bright wishes. ✨🎂 #GratefulHeart #BirthdayJoyLikes : 6464

Caption : I grew up without birthday parties, because as a child, April was always exam period. Then as I started working, I’d be filming amidst the two Star Awards shows and of course it’s also tax season. To have a surprise party orchestrated for me last night touched me immensely. Although there were plenty of red herrings throughout the day, because my husband was ironically not a good actor in this case, I was still caught off guard. 🎂 To all my friends who made time to do this, thank you for loving, protecting and blessing me with your light🕯️; for sharing your laughter and talents 😆, trusting me with your fears, and making this birthday celebration an unforgettable chapter in my life story. ♥️🙏🏻♥️Likes : 6247

Caption : “SHERO” a year on. It was a beautiful gathering on the last day of CNY, catching up and congratulating one another for how far we have all come since then. This time last year, we were making “SHERO”, which was exceptionally memorable. The training to be a bodyguard, filming in Canberra, fighting with a ponytail that had nine pieces of hair extensions in it… Summarising the experience in 10 pictures on IG was challenging because it felt like a lifetime for me. A long, gruelling search for sister @carriewst, a roller coaster love-hate romance with my client @romeotan, a painful rejection from my best friend @nickk_teo and a wary relationship with my sister’s mentee @tayying_. It’s a joy to have worked with all of you on this project! Here’s to another year of celebrations, and may all your dreams come true! ♥️♥️♥️♥️ #mediacorpshero #zgmdinner #joannepehLikes : 5585

Caption : Every Mother’s Day, I find myself swept up in a wave of emotion, reflecting on the journey of motherhood. I remember those early days, holding my newborn, flooded with self doubt of whether I’ll know a mother is supposed to do, devouring every book on child development I could find, and wondering about the life I might have had without them. When they were toddlers, time seemed to pause with every cry and laugh, their needs so immediate and clear. Now, as they grow more independent, the days and months fly by, yet the challenges only grow. They come home with a wider range of experiences and more complex emotions, and sometimes I struggle to find the right words in response. There are moments I doubt my answers are good enough. But this journey is about learning—learning from those who’ve walked this path before, and learning to forgive my own mistakes. Here’s to all the mothers navigating this beautiful, tough, ever-changing journey. Happy Mother’s Day! 🌷💕Likes : 4534
