Every now and again I have to bring this post back. But you patriots carry onโ€ฆ.

And to the diaspora out there in the Caribbean, USA, Europe, Africa demonising Haitians, I hope you are aware this is rooted in complete Anti-Blackness. Yโ€™all too can carry on.

There is no coincidence that the one country in the world that successfully freed themselves from slavery on their own terms is still today seen as a demonic, dog eating sh*t hole country. Do the math.

Ok bye! โœŒ๐Ÿฝโค๏ธ

Joy Reid Instagram - #onthisday in 2009, President Obama nominated Sonia Sotomayor to the Supreme Court. This week she issued a terrifying warning about what the Court, packed by #leonardleo and #donaldtrump with six far right wing Christian nationalist justices, have planned for the rest of us. The courts are a voting issue. Hell they might be THE voting issue. And if Trump wins, Alito and Thomas will likely retire so Trump can replace them with 30 or 40 year old versions, which means we are trapped in this oncoming #handmaidstale likely for the rest of our lives. Marilyn Mosby was sentenced Thursday for federal mortgage fraud and perjury convictions that had the former Stateโ€™s Attorney for Baltimore facing up to 40 years in prison.

While federal prosecutors pushed for Mosby to serve at least 20 months in prison, U.S. District Judge Lydia Kay Griggsby instead issued a sentence of home detention for a year, the Baltimore Sun reported. Mosby also had to give up her condo in Florida, a property that was at the center of the mortgage fraud conviction earlier this year.

Mosby was sentenced after President Joe Biden resisted calls to pardon her from not just herself but also powerful individuals and groups across the country.

Following the sentencing, Mosby appeared emotional and expressed gratitude outside of the federal courthouse in Greenbelt, Maryland.

Project 2025 is a far-right manifesto that would destroy the federal government as we know it and disrupt the lives of every person in America.

It would enable Trump & Republicans to enact widespread, wholesale policy violence, and it must be rejected.
Joy Reid Instagram - And if Trump becomes president again (likely for life) those two corrupt justices will retire so Trump can replace them with 30 or 40 something year old versions of themselves.

That would mean Trump would be the one to appoint FIVE OUT OF THE NINE justices on the court. It would be his court majority in place for likely the rest of our lives. Let that sink in.

Every civil right of the 20th centuryโ€” everything that made Black people, women and nonwhite immigrants full citizens, and every regulation of big corporations and oligarchs, the Voting Rights Act and as Clarence has signaled, likely even Brown v Boardโ€” would be gone, likely for good. This election is NOT about Joe Biden. Itโ€™s about US, and whether WE will retain any rights at all after 2024. Wake TF up, people. Trump is not coming back into power to give you a โ€œstimmyโ€ check. That was due to the pandemic he mismanaged, not because he magically loves sending Black people money. WAKE UP! Donโ€™t walk us deliberately into the #handmaidstale or 1930s Germany!

Kentucky Gov. #AndyBeshear designated #Juneteenth as a holiday for state executive branch workers on Thursday and expanded protections in state hiring and employment by banning discrimination based on hairstyles.

The separate executive orders signed by the Democratic governor represented his latest outreach to Black Kentuckians โ€” but also reflected limits to that outreach.

Beshear, seen as a rising Democratic star, took the actions after efforts to make Juneteenth a statewide holiday and outlaw discrimination based on hairstyles failed in the stateโ€™s Republican-supermajority legislature.

โ€œAfter years of inaction, Iโ€™ve decided I can no longer wait for others to do what is right,โ€ said Beshear.

โ€œCoco Gauff, the reigning U.S. Open champion whoโ€™s considered a favorite at the French Open tournament that begins this weekend, told The Associated Press in an interview that right now is โ€˜a crazy time to be a Floridian, especially a Black one at that,โ€™โ€ writes Florida state Sen. Shevrin Jones.

โ€œAs a state senator who represents Miami Gardens, Floridaโ€™s largest majority-Black city, I applaud Gauff for standing up and speaking out against the stateโ€™s open hostility toward Black Americans.โ€

โ€œ[Gov. Ron] DeSantis needs to own the fact that heโ€™s the reason why prominent athletes, companies, civil rights organizations, current residents and visitors alike are declaring our state as unsafe and hostile to millions of Americans,โ€ Jones writes. โ€œOver the last five years, he and the Legislature he controls have led an aggressive assault on civil liberties and rights โ€” putting Black Americans, the LGBTQ community, immigrants and women in the crosshairs.โ€

EXCLUSIVE: The family of Ralph Yarl, a Black teenager who was shot and injured last year when he knocked on the wrong door, has filed a civil lawsuit in Missouri, against the accused shooter, Andrew Lester.

The complaint names Lester and the Highland Acres Lakeside Heights Homeowners Association and argues that their โ€œcarelessnessโ€ and โ€œnegligenceโ€ led Yarl to โ€œsuffer and sustain permanent injuries.โ€

Joy Reid Instagram - Today is #womensequalityday when we commemorate ratification of the 19th Amendment to the constitution granting women the right to vote. The story though is more complicatedโ€ฆ

Twenty-two women from @dstinc1913 were among the Black women who sought to join the landmark 1913 suffrage parade in Washington D.C. organized by leading suffragists Alice Paul and Lucy Burns for the National American Womam Suffrage Association (NAWSA). Instead of being welcomed, the Black suffragists were told they would have to match at the back of the procession in segregation. They refused.

And while all of the 250,000 or so women who joined the march faced jeers and catcalls from men who stood along the road, the Black women also faced savage beatings, including from some women marchers. The violence was so pronounced and unimpeded by DC police that congressional hearings were later held to get to the bottom of it.

In addition, there was controversy over the announced inclusion of Dawn Mist, โ€œthe beautiful daughter of Chief Three Bears of the Glacier Park Indians,โ€ who supposedly would ride through the procession on horseback in a buckskin dress along with other representatives of โ€œthe wildest type of womanhoodโ€ side by side with white women of the finest class. Turns out, Dawn Mist was fictional, and an invention of the public relations office of The Great Northern Railroad, who hired at least three native actresses to portray her. (Source: National Parks Service)

Despite all of this the march did happen, and eventually the Susan B Anthony suffragw and the 19th Amendment were passed by Congress and ratified on August 18, 1920 granting women the right to vote, though Black women would have to wait until the Voting Rights Act of 1965 to see the amendment implemented for them nationwide.

The right to vote is precious and recent for so many of us. We really ought to use it.

Ok bye! โœŒ๐Ÿฝโค๏ธ

Itโ€™s time to wake up, #vote and #staywoke.

Joy Reid - 20.1K Likes - And if Trump becomes president again (likely for life) those two corrupt justices will retire so Trump can replace them with 30 or 40 something year old versions of themselves.

The complaint names Lester and the Highland Acres Lakeside Heights Homeowners Association and argues that their โ€œcarelessnessโ€ and โ€œnegligenceโ€ led Yarl to โ€œsuffer and sustain permanent injuries.โ€

Joy Reid - 14.1K Likes - Today is #womensequalityday when we commemorate ratification of the 19th Amendment to the constitution granting women the right to vote.
