Last weekend, my husband and I hosted a dinner ( he did ALL the cooking!) to celebrate the Holidays. I just love how all of our husbands get along so well! Caption : This is a look back at my early days as a dancer, and a post to honor my dance teachers who mentored me into a career as a performer. Dancing was a perfect art form for me when I was young because I was extremely shy but could still express myself without having to talk! My teachers were like beacons of hope and inspired me deeply. Slide 5 is a portrait of my first dance teacher, Margot Grimmer. I was 13 when I met Margot and I was in awe of her beauty and talent. Even though jazz and modern were my favorite styles she insisted I ground my technique in ballet as a foundation. I was eventually invited to perform with her American Dance Company and these are some photos from that time. Margot wrote a memoir about her life in dance and I highly recommend reading it if you want to be inspired! She features me in the book and I am so honored that she chose to include me. The next slide is of two influential teachers that I also studied with, Gus Giordano, and Lou Conte. Gus was known for his immense kindness and had an amazing, unique, jazz style that was instantly recognizable. His studio is still thriving in Chicago. Lou Conte also had a very specific style and brilliance, and I was incredibly lucky to study with him. I’m proud to say I was the swing dancer in the first company of Hubbard Street Dance Company. I got to see them perform in LA recently, and they took my breath away! The next slide is a shout out to Baayork Lee, who is the force of nature that originated the role of Connie Wong in A Chorus Line. Baayork was truly a pioneer, as roles for Asian performers were virtually nonexistent. Playing Connie on Broadway was a dream come true for me. Baayork continues to inspire and mentor countless dancers today. And the last slide is my current teacher at the YMCA, Will Hemingway. I can’t perform any of those moves from decades ago, but I can get down and boogie with Will in his water dance classes twice a week! These classes make me feel like a kid again, I grin from ear to ear. The next slide is a shout out to Baayork Lee, who is the force of nature that originated the role of Connie Wong in A Chorus Line. Baayork was truly a pioneer, as roles for Asian performers were virtually nonexistent. Playing Connie on Broadway was a dream come true for me. Baayork continues to inspire and mentor countless dancers today. And the last slide is my current teacher at the YMCA, Will Hemingway. I can’t perform any of those moves from decades ago, but I can get down and boogie with Will in his water dance classes twice a week! Caption : It’s #givingtuesday and I wanted to give a shout out to one of my favorite organizations, @projectangelfood On Thanksgiving morning, my sons, Oliver and Leo, and I delivered meals to homebound folks with life threatening illnesses, and were able to bring Thanksgiving cheer along with handwritten notes created by elementary school kids. Everyone was lifted up by this experience and we plan to make it a Holiday tradition. Thank you, #projectangelfood for providing thousands of meals and love to so many people each year. Caption : Omg, I just got to meet Barbara Eden and thank her for being such a huge and healing part of my childhood! Coming from the only Chinese family in the small town where I grew up, I was bullied quite a bit with all the Ching Chong Chinaman stuff. So I’d run home from school and watch #idreamofjeanie and #bewitched and be ready to face another day. Barbara is still as beautiful as ever. ❤️🙏

Caption : Still trying to process this loss… I feel so blessed to have been a part of #friends. My first episode was in season 2 when the show began to sky rocket in the ratings. I think sometimes when a massive success occurs suddenly, it can feel like a crisis, and I was struck by the close bond that all 6 actors shared. It’s as if they were holding each other tight during a wild ride. My first day on the job was also my birthday, and I remember that Courtney Cox had arranged a lunch for all of us in a private dining room on the Warner Bros. lot. All of them were so incredibly sweet and welcoming to me. And I will always remember Matthew’s kindness and his generosity as a person and an actor. When a colleague and contemporary passes, it’s such a sobering shock. Let’s hold our loved ones close as we mourn this beautiful, gifted, soul who struggled mightily and brought joy to so many. #RIPMathewPerry 💔

Here are some highlights: I was gifted an amazing hand drawn Snoopy by @robert.w.pope who is one of only 3 people officially illustrating the PEANUTS gang! I am a giant Snoopy fan so this is going up on my wall immediately! I also got to meet and pet a real wolf dog and gorgeous, soft owl with @wildefellwolves. Thanks to all who came out!! ❤️❤️❤️

Caption : Can’t believe it’s been 24 years today that I said the big, “I do” to this guy, my husband, whose heart is as big as his giant stature. He’s 6’5”, and I’m 5’ feet so we look pretty stupid together, but somehow it works! We celebrated last night at @nikuxla and brought along our older son to enjoy this amazing meal with us. We were so well taken care of, their staff was very attentive and cared a lot about making sure our allergies to certain foods and spices could be avoided. Eradicating Aids is an important issue to me because back in the 80s when I was a dancer in New York I lost so many friends to this horrible disease.
