Leanne Ford Instagram - Three weeks ago we got keys to our new LA place in Rustic Canyon. We were excited (though me — a bit hesitant…) to start spending some time again in our favorite part of LA. A beautiful historical and quirky artists’ home. We brought over so many of our favorite things to fill it with. It was to be a place to write, to create. Three days ago we lost it. Thankfully, this wasn't yet our HOME. It was still just a house. So for us, this is not the same tragedy that it has been for so many other families in Los Angeles. We are the lucky ones. We had a beautiful safe home in PA to escape back to. Still, to be affected by fires is shocking, to say the least. I’m in awe of the firemen and women choosing to run into the flames while we get to run out. I can only say — THANK YOU. I’ve been praying hard for “the peace that passes understanding” through this — for everyone. A true peace that seems to make no sense. Ever and I are safe now. Erik stayed in LA to be with his team. Leanne Ford Instagram - It’s amazing what you think about most when you lose so much — for me, thinking of the wreckage of this fire in my own life, believe it or not, I feel like my biggest losses are my bibles with thousands of notes in them. I made it my goal to read the Bible cover to cover this year and I must have spent hundreds of hours reading and taking thousands of notes. They went everywhere with me — on every plane, in every car, to every project, to every corner of the world I visited. We came out rather unscathed in the grand scheme of things — this was a project we had just started and we hadn’t moved in entirely. We have a beautiful home we love in Pennsylvania. We are the lucky ones. Truly. Yet somehow — among this lost project and all of the lost treasures— losing my bibles is the only thing that really stings. So as I was sitting here without my notes, without my scribbles and without my underlines — and I thought — maybe you all can send me yours…!? Leanne Ford Instagram - These floors were a massive win for us in design land. I love to take advantage of my own projects as a place to try more unorthodox (at least here in America...) treatments of materials. You know, that gorgeous look of raw untouched wood floors before any sort of sealer has been applied? No orangey tint, no glossy finish — just beautiful raw wood. Well that has alway been the finished goal and while we managed to get close a few times we had never cracked the code like this before. Last spring on a trip with my good friend @hilaryrobertson to @3daysofdesign in Copenhagen I was on a mission to find out how and what they use “over there” to get the floors that I just don’t see over here. While talking to the team at @hans.wegner they introduced me to wood oil and wood soap. As an alternative to a poly or a sealer. I brought it home with me and started testing it on different wood species, like some kind of mad scientist in my basement. And it WORKED — it sealed the wood completely without altering the tone or finish of the wood in any way. I was thrilled, and now months into a heavy traffic commercial space I still am! Leanne Ford Instagram - A love letter to... “The House That Never Really Was,” — a beautiful historical and quirky artists’ home. We had big plans for the place. We have slowly been making a plan after losing this house in the LA fires. Like I have said before thankfully, this wasn’t yet our HOME. It was still just a house. So for us, this is not the same tragedy that it has been for so many other families in Los Angeles. Still, to be affected by fires is shocking BUT I am coming out of the fog and I just wanna do one little post to honor this special studio and house. I hate that a piece of history is gone. But I promise, we Fords are good! Don’t worry about us!! If anyone is looking for a way to help @realityla is collecting and contributing to help rebuild lost homes, rebuild lost churches, and to help with the sweet souls displaced in foster care. We have slowly been making a plan after losing this house in the LA fires. Like I have said before thankfully, this wasn’t yet our HOME. It was still just a house. I by no means am a “true” ceramicist but I love to play on the wheel and with different glazes and forms. I basically hacked the system by convincing @crateandbarrel let me produce these pieces at scale in Portugal! Likes : 38044Leanne Ford - 14.7K Likes - It’s amazing what you think about most when you lose so much — for me, thinking of the wreckage of this fire in my own life, believe it or not, I feel like my biggest losses are my bibles with thousands of notes in them. I made it my goal to read the Bible cover to cover this year and I must have spent hundreds of hours reading and taking thousands of notes. They went everywhere with me — on every plane, in every car, to every project, to every corner of the world I visited. We came out rather unscathed in the grand scheme of things — this was a project we had just started and we hadn’t moved in entirely. We have a beautiful home we love in Pennsylvania. We are the lucky ones. Truly. Yet somehow — among this lost project and all of the lost treasures— losing my bibles is the only thing that really stings.
