Liza Minnelli Instagram - Here it is, kids — hot off the press! A little sneak peek of a terrific documentary, directed by Bruce David Klein, about how I became me. Spoiler alert: I did it with the help of my wonderful friends and mentors. The film is called “LIZA: A Truly Terrific Absolutely True Story” — and it’s been out and about ringing bells and winning rave reviews at film festivals. Now, it opens for real in theaters on 1/24/25 (in NY), 1/31/25 (in LA) — and will expand to other cities throughout February. Can’t wait to share it with the world. We had fun singing together later, but it always seemed to be in his key. My favorite time was when I sang for him at the Friar’s Club Tribute in 1994, and I got him up to sing ‘Maybe This Time’ as a duet, but this time it was in my key. There’s enough chaos and sadness in the world. Today is different. The terrorism of 9/11 broke my heart into so many pieces, I’m still looking for some of them. 10 days after the loss of over 3,000 people at the World Trade Center Towers, The Mets were deciding should they play a crucial game. I was asked to sing my song… “New York, New York”, the city’s worldwide anthem. I didn’t know if I could do it so, I wanted heroic first responders to join me as a chorus line. Those brave souls had suffered so much. All I had to do was look at them, play for them, the team, the audience… which stopped me from thinking about my own feelings. The great guys hugged me and we cried… after! So in the spirit of saying, whatever hurts…however challenged…damn it. We must push forward. There is no other way. So kids, I love you all and here is that experience… 9/21/2001. We must never forget 9/11 and always find a way to both mourn and move forward. Here’s Mets player Todd Zeile remembering.

His sweet soul passed listening to my father’s favorite song, “Embraceable You.” He was able to spend his final day in this life eating chicken, visiting two parks, napped, and played with some of his dog friends. I only find comfort knowing that he’s no longer suffering. Goodbye my sweet baby.

It was the longest run in Carnegie Hall’s history. It held that record until 1987. The streak was broken when I played three weeks of sold out shows. Ha! Anyway, the reason I’m mentioning this and the reason I am so excited is because for the first time ever “Live In New York 1979” will be widely released! And better than that it’s going to be released as a deluxe vinyl set on 2 LPs and an Ultimate Edition on 3 CDs. I was asked to sing my song… “New York, New York”, the city’s worldwide anthem. I didn’t know if I could do it so, I wanted heroic first responders to join me as a chorus line. Those brave souls had suffered so much. All I had to do was look at them, play for them, the team, the audience… which stopped me from thinking about my own feelings. The great guys hugged me and we cried… after! So in the spirit of saying, whatever hurts…however challenged…damn it. We must push forward. There is no other way.
