I keep writing and rewriting this caption, but nothing I say could ever possibly convey the love I have for my sweet Elliot. This perfect baby boy made me a mom. He will forever be the greatest gift of my life.

There is so little I remember from this past year…but I remember meeting you and holding you like it was yesterday. Your love was the strongest thing I have ever felt in my life. One year ago, my living nightmare began. I will never be the person I was in this photo. The last photo I have before my world turned upside down. The loss of my son stripped me of my identity and of a lifetime of memories. I miss who I used to be. I miss not crying every single day. I miss smiling without grief lingering closely. I miss not being so jealous of moms with living children. I miss socializing before it was so draining. I miss being a good and present friend. This day stole absolutely everything from me.

Three years ago on this holiday, I announced to my family that I was pregnant and we all celebrated my first Mother’s Day together. After Elliot died, Mother’s Day became a very heavy day for me. I never questioned or doubted my title of mom, but motherhood is so much more complicated and confusing without a living child to hold. Today, I am so grateful to celebrate being a mom to both of my children even if it’s not in the way I hoped…with both of my babies earthside. And although my role as mom looks drastically different now than in years past, my love for Elliot and Sunday remains as strong as ever.

Sending extra love and a big hug to those whose hearts feel heavy today. To those who are missing their mothers, to those who are missing their children, and to those whose arms feel so terribly empty…I see you. You are not alone.

Two months ago, at the very end of my healthy and uneventful pregnancy, I noticed my baby stopped moving. Ish took me to the hospital and there was no heartbeat. I’ve never heard anything more deafening than the lack of a heartbeat on an ultrasound at 9 months pregnant. My whole world collapsed in that moment. I was immediately induced for labor. I spent two days in labor with my baby’s lifeless body inside me. I heard babies crying and families cheering next door, all while I was experiencing so much pain physically and emotionally. I gave birth to baby Eli at 2:09am on Sunday, December 12th. It was immediately evident to the doctors how Elliot had died. His cord was tied in a true knot and was wrapped around his neck twice. These were the worst moments of my life…

But what followed was simply magical. The nurse handed me the most beautiful boy in the world. He was absolutely perfect. I can’t even begin to describe the amount of pure love and pride I felt with my baby. Ish and I created such an incredible little human, and I finally got to meet him. I wouldn’t trade those moments for the world!! I would do absolutely anything to have you in my arms again, Tiny 🤍

It’s extremely bittersweet revisiting those days at the hospital. I haven’t even begun to unpack the trauma and the weight that they carry. The past two months feel like a blur. The grief is all-consuming. I simply don’t know how to move forward without my baby, yet somehow the time still passes and I’m still here…just surviving. I could not do it without my incredible husband, my sisters, my parents, my friends, and especially all the fellow loss moms I have met along the way. I am so so thankful to have this platform to share Elliot with ALL of you. The outpouring of love has been such a light for me in these darkest of days. So, THANK YOU 🙏

After Elliot’s death, I don’t think I will ever be truly emotionally ready to be pregnant again. But I have this deep need to be that I can’t explain.

It is extremely difficult navigating motherhood without your baby. Kissing Elliot’s cold, hard urn every night is a stark contrast to kissing the soft, warm cheeks of my baby boy. There’s a hole in my heart that will never be healed, but I hold hope that motherhood won’t always look like this for me 🧸💕
