I admit I will not win the mother of the year award… I don’t think enough about my daughter- I feel like it’s a privilege to even think about myself. I couldn’t if I tried. Because every time I meet another family of one of the hostages- I meet the pain of a mother who needs the entire nation. I offer a small hug. She needs someone to hear her. Caption : את השבת הזאת אני מקדישה לעזיזה, סבתא שלי. סבתא שלי התחתנה בגיל 12. סבתא הסבירה שהיו אונסים את הבתולות היהודיות במרוקו ,אז אבא שלה ,סבא שלום, חיתן אותה מהר כדי שתהפוך לאשת איש, שאותן -מוסלמים לא אונסים. סבתא סיפרה שהיו חוטפים בנות יהודיות. שחלקן עדיין שם נשואות ומאוסלמות. האמת שלא רציתי להאמין. חשבתי שזה תירוץ לכך שהתרבות שלנו פרימיטיבית. לא רציתי להאמין שגם במרוקו הייתה אנטישמיות. לא רציתי להאמין שאונסים ילדות יהודיות כי הן יהודיות. לא רציתי להאמין שבכל מקום הייתה שואה. סבתא עזיזה נצלה מאונס והתחתנה עם סבא יחיא אבל מרוקו הפכה למסוכנת אז הם עזבו כשהיא בת 17 לארץ הקודש. פליטים בדרכים. בהרים. בכבישים. בכלא. שנה שלמה. אחרי נסיונות כולשים סבתא גילחה לסבא את הזקן שלא יזהו את אותו יהודי שמעז לברוח עם אשתו הצעירה שמסתירה בטן הריון. ואז הצליחו להגיע באונייה עד חיפה. בלי כלום. ומכלום סבתא הקימה.בית משפחה. וסבתא עבדת.וילדת שמונה ילדים. איבדת את הבכורה וגידלת שבעה.ובישלת לאלפים. וסרגת אפודות למאות תינוקות נזקקים. ובירכת כל בן ובת. ורקדת בחתונות כי אמרת שאת חייבת לקום לשמח כל חתן וכלה. וכל נכד ונכדה ונין ונינה בנתינה בזכותך כי את הראית שאין גבול לאהבה.ואף פעם לא התלוננת. עד לפני שנה שאת רונן בנך הצעיר והמיוחד שכלת. התחלת לשתף שלא היה קל. שאין בזה שום דבר נורמלי להתחתן כשאת ילדה אבל כך שמרו על ילדה יהודיה. ובכי של עם יצא ממך. בכי של ילדה בת 12 שלא בכתה מאז. סבתא אני מבקשת ממך סליחה שלא הקשיבו.שלא הקשבתי. שעם זה גדלת. עם פחד להיחטף ולהיאנס ולא שאלו אותך ולא שאלתי אם את בסדר שמונים שנה. אני מצטערת שלא רציתי להאמין שלא ידעתי שלילדות יהודיות מסוכן. ועכשיו את רואה שזה קרה לנערות שנאנסו בביתהן ובמסיבה ברעים וזה לא חדש לך. סבתא סליחה. ותודה שבחרת לחיות בהודיה.ובנתינה. שנתת לי את אמא שלי שהיום חוגגת יום הולדת והיא אור ומלכה של שבת בכל יום. תודה שלימדת אותנו לאהוב את האחר. ובזכותך ולמענך אעשה כדי שכל יהודיה תרגיש בטוחה וגאה להיות יהודיה. A meeting that we didn’t need to share because she doesn’t want any attention just her son back. On Thursday she came to mothers prayer and couldn’t stop crying. Our prayers allowed her to set free her worry and she cried and cried and cried. For one evening her worry and sorrow was carried by others. Caption : My grandmother was married when she was 12 years old. I always thought it was part of the culture and of course didn’t like anything about it. But only in the recent years I learned why. My grandmother Aziza told me that Jewish girls, virgins were a target for Rape by Muslims in Marrocco so her father preferred to save her and marry her to my grandfather. Married women were other men’s possessions so they were left alone. Marrocco still remained unsafe and she and my grandfather left for Israel. Refugees. on the road. Through the desert. The streets. Arrested as they fail to escape. Till you shaved grandfather’s Beard so he won’t be recognized as a Jew. They arrived to Isarel with nothing but each other and your first baby. And build a home and a family. Aziza lost her first eldest Daugther but had seven more. Aziza worked. Cooked. Cleaned. Hosted holidays and Shabbat’s. Aziza knitted hundreds of sweaters for babies in need and raised an entire tribe to be grateful and give. Give and give. Aziza never said it was hard. She never complained or cried. She danced in every wedding so she could make the bride and groom happy as that is a Jewish Miztva. Only last year with years my grandfather and barrying her youngest special child she started crying. Crying rivers of decades. Crying like the 12 year that was never asked. ARE YOU OK? Forgive me that I didn’t want to believe it was dangerous for Jewish girls. Forgive me that I didn’t want to believe antisemitism was around the world. Forgive me that I didn’t ask how are you. Our brave soldiers tried to save him but accidentally opened fire and Yotem was dead. The Tragedy hits our bleeding nation deeply, and leaves another family with out their son. Yet Iris found only gratitude for those who tried to save her son and our country. From her deepest loss she gave us all a feeling of wholesome that we are ONE. That we have one shared enemy and we are all paying an enormous price. Those who were kidnapped and those there to rescue. She invited soldiers to her home to offer love and a hug. She assured them her family isn’t angry just sad but thanks them for their courage and sacrifice to keep us all safe with a shared painful price. Our Jewish spirit can never be kidnapped. Our hearts remain open with light. Thank you for giving our nation your light.
