At that time, I had no idea what was in store for Dr. Wilder and how long she would be around… then fast forward to a couple of months later being on a call with David Schulner and Peter Horton, offering me to join officially as a series regular for Season 5, my first ever. Of course, I knew it would be the final season, so why not go out with a bang and show the world once again more of Dr. Wilder and her strengths as well as her vulnerabilities. It’s been a wild ride, no pun intended. Representation matters everywhere, and playing a role of an oncologist that happens to be deaf and uses ASL is rarely showcased in media. There ARE deaf and hard-of-hearing professionals in the medical field doing incredible things, proving that we’re capable of anything we set our mind to achieving. Working for #NBC on New Amsterdam has been truly incredible… and I’ll always carry it with my heart. Working with everyone on set, actors and crew, has been fantastic and filled with fun, uplifting, and profound moments. Everyone in the show truly made me feel seen and welcomed me to the #DamFam with love, respect, and effort to learn sign language just enough to communicate with me. When the opportunity came to be photographed by her, I had to grab it! I was going through a lot of changes the last several months, good and bad. So, in my session with Kai, I asked her to capture my vulnerability as I’ve been guarded for a long time. Several weeks later, she sent me proofs and I fell in love with every one of them because I finally see “her” coming out. She’s been there the whole time yarning to be free. Sandra Mae Frank Instagram - I will keep saying it over and over… if you can, please get #vaccinated and keep wearing your #mask. I know it’s exhausting. I know it has been a year and a half but we’re not out of the woods yet, not even close. We are STILL dealing with the #pandemic as cases are starting to rise again. Yes, some people cannot get vaccinated due to #medical reasons, which I understand, and hope there will be a solution soon. But some people are refusing to get vaccinated “just because” and that drives me crazy. As long as this continues, we will have to keep wearing our masks, not only to protect ourselves but to protect others around us that may get worse than us. Be considerate. Trust the #science and get vaccinated. And no, looking up a few articles and videos does not make you the expert. Our medical #doctors have been doing the #work tirelessly and want this to end as much as we do. I do not enjoy wearing masks, especially when I rely on facial expressions for communication access. I do not enjoy not being able to greet strangers as I walk past them. I do not enjoy having to worry every day and all… But I will continue wearing my mask for however long it takes. The more of us that are vaccinated, the better chances we can get through this. Caption : It’s been an honor and privilege to play Dr. Wilder 💙👩🏻‍⚕️ This photo was taken on my very first day of work on set for #NewAmsterdam. At that time, I had no idea what was in store for Dr. Wilder and how long she would be around… then fast forward to a couple of months later being on a call with David Schulner and Peter Horton, offering me to join officially as a series regular for Season 5, my first ever. Of course, I knew it would be the final season, so why not go out with a bang and show the world once again more of Dr. Wilder and her strengths as well as her vulnerabilities. It’s been a wild ride, no pun intended. Representation matters everywhere, and playing a role of an oncologist that happens to be deaf and uses ASL is rarely showcased in media. There ARE deaf and hard-of-hearing professionals in the medical field doing incredible things, proving that we’re capable of anything we set our mind to achieving. Working for #NBC on New Amsterdam has been truly incredible… and I’ll always carry it with my heart. Working with everyone on set, actors and crew, has been fantastic and filled with fun, uplifting, and profound moments. Everyone in the show truly made me feel seen and welcomed me to the #DamFam with love, respect, and effort to learn sign language just enough to communicate with me. And to the fans that have been watching the show from day one and welcoming Dr. Wilder late in the show with two final seasons, thank you, and the message of the show will always be this… “How can I help?” With love, #DrWilder 💙🤟🏻 P.S. I know it has been a year and a half but we’re not out of the woods yet, not even close. We are STILL dealing with the #pandemic as cases are starting to rise again. Yes, some people cannot get vaccinated due to #medical reasons, which I understand, and hope there will be a solution soon. But some people are refusing to get vaccinated “just because” and that drives me crazy. As long as this continues, we will have to keep wearing our masks, not only to protect ourselves but to protect others around us that may get worse than us. Be considerate. Trust the #science and get vaccinated. And no, looking up a few articles and videos does not make you the expert. Our medical #doctors have been doing the #work tirelessly and want this to end as much as we do. I do not enjoy wearing masks, especially when I rely on facial expressions for communication access. I do not enjoy not being able to greet strangers as I walk past them. I do not enjoy having to worry every day and all… But I will continue wearing my mask for however long it takes. The more of us that are vaccinated, the better chances we can get through this.
