Caption : 💧 Real life is exquisite. And for those for whom it’s not, may it be so. . EDIT: *Such a blessing to go to places where Earth can still be experienced the way the Most High intended. This is pure water flowing straight from a glacier in New Zealand. The kind of place your plastic water bottles claim they got it from. It was my first time doing this, so I looked cautious, but yes I drank it! Again and again. This first sip was full of wonder, and it’s the wonder at our planet’s beauty that I am sharing. Thanks for your concern, but it was the BEST water I’ve EVER tasted.

Caption : A couple of days before the turn of the gregorian calendar new year, I visited Black Star Square. I felt the energy of two of my heroes, Marcus Garvey and Kwame Nkrumah. I climbed the arch, waved the flag, walked around the square, and a vision came to me… I imagined holding an event in that vast space, communing and building with descendants of the continent from all over… reigniting the passion of those great leaders. The next day by the pool, I shared this experience with @badassboz and she excitedly told me that the new year’s extravaganza she curated had expanded to include a dinner and a huge new year’s celebration— with performances and fireworks— in the iconic setting of… Black Star Square!! It. Was. EPIC. There were so many synchronicities and instantaneous manifestations on that trip. With everything going on in the world, I am overwhelmed, sometimes to tears, by the gratitude I feel for my privilege. For the luxury of being able to dream, to envision, to travel, and to co-create my own life, as well as the new world, for future generations, inshallah. With clarity of sight and hearts full of intention, we walked straight from the club to the ocean… paid homage to the ancestors that had been forced to traverse those waters, received Yemaya’s blessing, watched the Sun rise, and offered the deepest prayers of our hearts to Spirit. The words in this video are by Alana Fairchild, from “Rumi Oracle: An Invitation Into the Heart of the Divine” Happy 2024!!!!!

Caption : is MBUNDU. . The Mbundu, traditionally a matrilineal Bantu people, have lived in present-day Angola since the Middle Ages. We were once head of “The Ambundu Kingdom” called “Ngola” (meaning iron), from which the name “Angola” was derived. The most well-known Mbundu figure in history was the powerful ruler Queen Nzinga. There are many oral traditions passed down about her polyandry, as well as her advanced military and negotiation tactics that staved off Portuguese invaders and kept them under control through a relationship of trade (ivory, rubber, wax, and humans). The tradition of resistance permeated Angolan culture so much that, even under Portuguese rule by the 1800s, many Ambundu communities remained sovereign, until the last of them, was defeated by the Portuguese in 1917. The spirit of revolt stayed with many descendants of this tribe as well, which could be evidenced by the existence of “Quilombos” (a Kimbundu word meaning “war camp”) in Brazil (another previous Portuguese colony), where self-freed people overthrew their captors and set up self-sufficient, independent communities. . Channeled message: You have done much much fighting on your feet. It is time for buoyancy. For wading in the waters of the creation of the New World. There are those whose spears, guns, arrows and bombs must speak for them. There are those whose sharp tongues pierce the minds of the masses from stages larger than we could have ever dreamt possible. And still, there are those whose contributions come from a quieter place, but whose influence is no less effective. You, my dear, have been tasked with using the gifts you have access to. In that receptivity, that creativity, that reflection, that mysticism, that magic, that art, you serve in accordance with the Divine’s plan. You must do your work from there. We have been many kinds of warriors. Now, Warriors of Peace… This is your time. . . 📸: @thaisaquinophotography 💇🏾‍♀️: @chiomanvhair 🎵: Bonga, “Mona Ki Ngi Xica” (meaning “The Child I Leave Behind” in Kimbundu) . #AncestryDecolonized #BlackFuturism #IndigenousFuturism #BlackHistoryMonth #BlackHerstoryMonth #BlackFutureMonth

Caption : 2023 December Highlights WELCOME TO GHANA!!! Thank you, Modjinah, @travelmo.worryless for blessing this trip with such ease and organization. You are excellent at what you do, and an absolute sweetheart to boot! Thank you, Abdul @theruler02 for treating me like family and making sure my first AfroFuture @afrofuture experience was spectacular in so many ways. Thank you, Queen Bozoma @badassboz , for being the wisest, loudest, sexiest voice calling us back home. As an ambassador to the Diaspora, you exemplify radiance, realness, and regality, while reminding others of their own. Seeing you in action at the live, Ghana edition of The Badass Workshop @thebadassworkshop was truly a sight to behold! And thank you for the incredible experiences you curated for your circle of friends. You are a visionary. As these events continue to grow, as more of us gain the courage to take flight (because remember, “The People Could Fly”), as we deepen our remembrance and self love… may we nurture the global family, meeting each other with cultural sensitivity, mutual respect, understanding and Love. Each time we share wisdom, dreams, food, dance… we heal colonial wounds. Each time we gather in the name of transatlantic unity, we relearn the forgotten ways of our ancestors. I love y’all deep. Thank you, Ghana, for everything. MEDASSE.

Caption : It was my absolute pleasure to speak on a panel for @brownu “Brown and Beyond,” alongside president of The Academy, Janet Yang (class of ‘78), motivational singer-songwriter Rhonda Ross (class of “93), artistic director of the Brown Arts Institute, Avery Willis Hoffman, and moderated by Brickson Diamond (class of ‘93). Swipe to hear just a few moments from an evening of sharing insights and building community. I even brought out my class ring for the occasion! 😉 🗣️ BRUNO! * And shoutout to university President Paxton for leading by example.

Thank you, @nurture_neuroscience_parenting for speaking about your book “The Nurture Revolution”. As a doula and lovey-dovey mama, I felt so affirmed hearing your perspective and research, and I can’t wait to dive into the text! Thank you to one of my biggest inspirations and fellow @nmhschool alumna @umathurman for asking the author all the right questions and for making my entire day! And thanks to my girls @deepoku, @vashtie, and all of the board members and program graduates for being so sweet to my mom and holding space for her reminiscing on her time doing similar work with the Harlem Nursing Mothers.🥰

The one whose integrity is infused in every aspect of her life and in every piece in her closet. . I was introduced to this sustainable fashion brand @y_e_s_a_e_t and fell in love. The empowering membership community @TheWIESuite is partnering with them on this one of a kind T-shirt, to celebrate the intersection of #BlackHistoryMonth and #womenshistorymonth . The shirt features the Ghanaian adinkra symbol “ese ne tekrema”, signifying interdependence and friendship. . 10% of proceeds go to @GirlBeHeard, a Brooklyn-based nonprofit that builds young leaders, activists and changemakers. . Caption : (continued from last post) In an attempt to answer this, I’m reminded of something director @ayizejamaeverett said last week at a screening of his brilliant documentary @atableofourownofficial. When discussing whiteness in healing spaces, he said, “You don’t start out kicking the neighbor’s dog. You start out kicking your own dog. So when you look at the abuse that happened to other peoples, to the land, to women… look at what happened to European women elders who knew the land, who knew about the psyche, who had oral traditions that were passed down for thousands of years. What did they do to them? They burned them. They burned women. Do you understand the pathos that takes? Of course, if you’ll do that, you’ll go to any other part of the world and do the same thing. Now, you have an opportunity to say “let’s go back there. Let’s reclaim those witches”. Yes, there are generational curses, but there is also generational strength, generational compassion, generational growth. These are all things that can be accessed.” I’m also reminded of @empresskarenrose speaking a couple of days ago about the indigenous understanding of “soul loss”, and the ancient belief that what is broken can be healed. I wonder then: how can the European diaspora heal ancestral trauma and retrieve the parts of their souls that had to take flight in order for such atrocities to be committed? How can they repair the harm done to themselves and to the rest of the planet? I believe it starts with rendering reparations, returning land, restoring control of resources, recognizing responsibility, reimagining their place in a world of racial equity, listening to those melanated distant cousins whose links to indigeneity remain strong, and deep, consistent prayer for collective liberation on the planet. . Channeled Message: It is time for cloaks of compassion, generosity, duty, repentance… For tapping into the truth of who we are without the delusions of superiority passed down from those who thought only of themselves. We return. We return. We return to our humanity. . 📸: @thaisaquinophotography 💇🏾‍♀️: @chiomanvhair 🎵: The Chieftains, “The Women of Ireland” #AncestryDecolonized

Caption : is IRISH and BRITISH. The English and Irish lived alongside one another for many centuries. Later, as the first of about 120 colonies around the world, Ireland was where the British imperial project began in the 15th century. The British Empire went on to terrorize more territories around the world than any other colonial entity. (IG captions are not long enough to fit the exhaustive list of countries). Britain’s arbitrary borders and mandates gave rise to many of the internal wars and conflicts that have plagued the peoples native to those lands, some of which we are obviously still seeing to this day. Celtic culture thrived in pre-colonial Ireland and England, which evolved around 1200 B.C. Between 1450 and 1750 A.D., we underwent mass hysteria, which led to thousands of so-called witches being hanged and burned for their relationship with the Earth and their pagan rituals. After “whiteness” was constructed in the 17th century, the Irish and every other group with “white” skin benefitted from white supremacist capitalist society, and from the continued oppression of people of color. What does it mean to “decolonize ancestry” when one has colonizer ancestry? What does this lineage have to offer to this work through me? Caption : is CHEROKEE. . For thousands of years, at least as far back as 10,000 BCE, The Cherokee Nation’s (originally called Ani’-Yun’wiya) ancestral lands were located in what is now the southeastern United States (including parts of present day Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, Kentucky, North Carolina, South Carolina, Arkansas, Virginia and Missouri). We were an agricultural people organized into matrilineal clans, with a deep connection to Nature, reflected in our spiritual beliefs, ceremonies, and art. Despite centuries of imperialist efforts, we remain the largest surviving indigenous American population to this day, with the majority residing in Oklahoma, as a result of the U.S. government’s “Indian Removal Act” and subsequent “Trail of Tears” in the 1830s. . . Channeled message from a Cherokee ancestor: They tried to erase us, But we were not made of such fickle matter. We were made of earth, of water, of breath, of light… In order to survive many of us changed names, identities, communities… But society’s refusal to see us does not mean we don’t exist. You don’t have to know my name to feel me in your veins. We do not require that you speak Tsalagi, the old language, because we see the way you acknowledge the Four Directions, the way you’ve danced to our heartbeats through drums at pows wows your whole life, the beaded earrings you made and sold as a teenager, the way you translated the message we sent you through the Crow when your brother joined us, the way you connect with the lands you’ve lived on… We see you. This land asks only that you protect it. That you show up for it the way it has shown up for you, generation after generation, Through conditions that were impossible to survive. Yet here you are. Still. That you remain, and that you claim us out loud, gives others permission to do the same. We were here. We were here. We have always been here. . 🎥: @thaisaquinophotography 💇🏾‍♀️: @chiomanvhair *who plaited my hair in a pattern resembling a DNA chain, representing the links of lineage 🎵: Walela- Cherokee Morning Song . #AncestryDecolonized #BlackFuturism #IndigenousFuturism #BlackHistoryMonth #BlackHerstoryMonth #BlackFutureMonth

Caption : is FULANI . Generally nomadic pastoralists who practice transhumance, the Fulani are one of the largest ethnic groups on the continent of Africa. Some historians trace our pre-biblical migrations to at least the 5th century, originating in present day Morocco and Mauritania, while archaeologists have traced Fula presence in Algeria back to at least the fourth millennium BC. There are many theories about Fulani means of migration (including roaming with herds of cattle, or more recently, jihads), but Fula roots can be found in many different current day expressions across Northern and Western Africa, including Cameroon, Mali, Guinea, Sierra Leone, Sudan, Gambia, and Senegal. . . Channeled Message from a Fulani Ancestor: . “We do not do stagnancy. We are obedient to the paths behind and ahead of us. We trust in the Divine Plan. We trust where we land. When you hear that it is time, go. Survey your harvest. Know what you know. It doesn’t take too long if it arrives on time. When mind and heart remain open, so too, do your channels of receiving. You are so beautiful. You look just like me. Especially when you laugh. So laugh. At every opportunity. Stretch every chance you get. Reach. Carry your tools. Know what is essential in life. And leave the rest behind, whenever necessary. Because what comes to replace it will always be a closer match to the you that you are becoming. To the new places you are arriving at.
