The thing I get asked most often is: “Which way to the nudist beach?” Acrylic paint on watercolour board #magik #xmen #marvel #adigranov
Process, process… This is all just acrylic paint on watercolour board. The board is regular white which I prime with a specific mix of warm grey. Then it’s just push and pull, like sculpting in 2D. #psylocke #magik #xmen #marvel #adigranov
Update: Accounting sorted it out in no time after 6 months of incompetence and disrespect from the editor Robert Redman. He messed up the process, didn’t give me any info I needed, didn’t acknowledge receipt of my work and didn’t inform me that it was being published. Due to his actions accounting weren’t even aware of a problem, but he refused to give me any further contact, a former employee did it on Facebook. As soon as I reached them, it was sorted. I wrote an article for @imaginefxmagazine last year which was published in their January issue. They still haven’t paid. The art director who commissioned the work never acknowledged the receipt of the work, never informed me that it was accepted and published, didn’t send me the PO number or inform me that I could invoice. It was only when someone on my social media alerted me to the article being published that I found out and had to chase, for him then to display complete ignorance of their own system and payment processes. Imagine FX/Future are now months beyond the payment terms in their own contract, and this is not counting the four months before I was finally given the PO number. All in, it’s now about five months overdue. The art director’s constant line is that it’s not his job to get me paid, only to sign off on the work, even though their own paperwork makes him my one and only contact, but he completely ignores my requests for contact information for anyone whose job it is to sort it. It’s only £200 and I will neither starve nor lose sleep over the money alone, but as a matter of principle I will also not let it go. Further more, it’s really a caution to anyone who might want to do work for them as if they can be so unprofessional over such a small amount to an artist who doesn’t need this work, I fear to think what they might be like towards those afraid to upset them. This isn’t something requiring sympathy. I certainly don’t feel bad about it, just irritated by this useless person and the lack of professionalism. I post about this because their unprofessional practices need to be known. I won’t do any more work for them or support any of their magazines.
It’s finished! I was in serious danger of being tried and convicted in nerd court for getting the shade of the hair incorrect, so I shook in my boots and made sure it’s as black as my soul. Added extra detail though, so I’m happy as well. P.S. if only they knew that the back of her hair is still purple! #psylocke #kwannon #xmen #marvel #adigranov
Almost done I think from now on I will do everything in South Park style. This whole trying to do something creatively not bankrupt is hard work. Acrylic paint on watercolour board #psylocke #kwannon #xmen #marvel #adigranov
X-Men 01 SDCC Exclusive Variant Cover In collaboration with @trinitycomics1 this is the virgin variant of our SDCC cover So there is kind of a genuine reason for this colour variation as I did the yellow and this one as colour comps to match each character and it was a tossup which I would end up painting traditionally. The yellow won out narrowly, but I still like this one quite a bit too, so when we were deciding on the virgin variant, it was an easy decision. #xmen #psylocke #magik #marvel #adigranov
Trying out some new varnish. Satin this time as a mid point between gloss and matt. Varnish doesn’t just protect the art, it also provides a unified surface as various layers and types of paint leave it uneven. But the thing I like the most is that it heightens the vibrance and contrast, almost as if doing an adjustment digitally, but in real life. Painting never feels complete until I seal and varnish it. This is going to be a variant for X-Men 1 available from Trinity Comics and me. Keep an eye out for the proper announcement. #magik #psylocke #kwannon #xmen #marvel #adigranov
Pen and ink #scarletwitch #xmen #marvel #adigranov
I used to love doing pure ink, but it really requires nurturing and having an “eye” for it. These days it really doesn’t come naturally to me and I feel like I have to add to it.

Varnishing the latest art, probably the cutoff for enough time for them to dry before taking them to SDCC. #drdoom #antivenom #marvel #adigranov

Something new underway
Just playing with some ink instead of doing what I should be doing
Still going…
At this stage it’s just a lot of brush work with mixtures of black, white and raw umber. Lots of different flat brushes and a couple of miniature ones.

Slow progress on the LeMans piece today. Porsche 917K is deceptively complicated, not helped by my weird idea to make the lighting gradually more chaotic towards the rear of the car to hopefully aid the energy I want from it. It’s a tiny car in person. I’ve watched them race a few times and they are just awesome. #stevemcqueen #porsche917 #porsche #lemans #adigranov
Work in progress on the Porsche 917K from the movie LeMans I wasn’t happy with any found photos for reference so I bought a really nice model which I could position and light the way I wanted. I am a big Porsche fan and just a general car enthusiast, but have never painted one before. #porsche #porsche917 #stevemcqueen #lemans #adigranov
