So every year for the past 15 years the David Holmes Charity Cricket Match has been running a closed door event for all my family and friends from the film industry, as well as plenty of my old classmates from Harry Potter. It’s such a wonderful day, and thanks to Amy Stares who arranges it each year we have raised over £100,000 for the Royal Orthapedic Hospital, which is where I was treated for my recovery injury. I’m still under the care of the expert team and that hospital to this day. I’m proud to announce that this year the cricket match is going to be live streamed so that anybody who wants to watch the event can, as well as contribute to the Fundraising appeal, raising money for @the.rnoh.charity and @greatormondst. So here’s a throwback photo I’ve already posted before, but thought it’s worth throwing out there on the day before the BAFTAs. If you haven’t watched my documentary then I’d like to inform all Harry Potter fans that it wasn’t just Harry I performed stunts for. Here is a photo of me after I had just doubled Tom Felton aka Draco Malfoy as he fell off of his broomstick in the Quidditch match in HP2. The stunt itself was one of my many wire gags and for anyone watching if you pause it at the right time, you can see my face! Not only did I perform a stunt in this Quidditch match, but I also was a Slytherin Beater myself. Also, another really cool detail is that just after the Quidditch match in the film you can see me at Malfoy’s bedside comforting him from his injuries he sustained in the match. So it’s me pretending to be empathetic consoling Tom Felton over a stunt I actually performed for him. The magic of the movies. 😂😂
The BAFTAs last night was a fun adventure. My documentary was nominated but unfortunately didn’t win. I want to congratulate Ellie Simmonds and her team for the well deserved win and also say congrats to every one at the event. It’s still unacceptable that I was the only stunt performer in the room and if I’d of won I’d have said something on stage about my department being overlooked. Honestly it was fun but unless BAFTA starts recognising stunts I wouldn’t do it again. I didn’t see any other department members who were willing to risk their lives and bodies for the sake of storytelling and I just sat in a room too cold for a quadriplegic surrounded by people from a whole industry who don’t think stunt performers deserve a category. #StuntsForBafta #Bafta #Quadriplegic #NoArmsLegsAnNoVoice #PenguinOnWheels

So as some of you might have seen on my feed last week, I spent some time at Stanmore Hospital for a routine botox operation. Before I went down, I spent 20 minutes in the morning to raise awareness of my current fundraiser to redecorate the day room. If you want to help me refurbish the room, go to the GoFundMe page linked in my profile. After having a look in the day room and showing you guys around, I decided to pop out to the best thing that ever happened to Stanmore in recent years: Horatio’s Garden. As you can see in this video, this is one of the most beautiful spaces for people to be in when going through the toughest of times. Please search for Horatio’s Garden, who are installing beautiful spaces like this on spinal units up and down the country. Finally, thanks again to all the expert dedicated professionals that work at Stanmore Royal Orthopaedic Hospital and anybody who gives their life in service for the NHS.
So immensely proud of my friend @maxwhitlock and all of the boys competing in today’s Olympic team competition. Not many people know but many years ago I was approached by Max through my friend his coach @scotthann to sponsor him early in his career. I was there in the audience in London 2012 as they made history achieving team bronze as well as Max getting one of his many individual medals he’s had over his illustrious carer. Good luck today, mate to you and all of team GB.
My experience of attending the BAFTA TV awards, from all the pre-show preparations, to the event itself, to the morning after. #BAFTA
Today is Spinal Cord Injury Awareness Day. The numbers for people diagnosed with spinal cord injuries are actually double than what was previously estimated. In the UK alone, 4,400 people are diagnosed with a spinal cord injury each year. That’s one person every two hours… To everybody in the community I belong to: I see you, I am one of you, and I’m proud of every single one of us. We are all soldiers living in a world that quite often makes us feel less than, yet we still push on and live our lives despite the challenges. To anyone newly injured out there, give yourself time, have faith that you will learn to adapt and live on, and never forget that you are not alone. #SCIAD @spinal_injuries
I had the pleasure of meeting these young wonderful human beings at the Young Carers Charity in Benfleet. Young Carers are children and young people aged between 5-18 years old, who provide emotional, physical or practical care to someone who experiences poor physical or mental health or disability, usually in their own family. This charity specialises in creating a safe space for young minds whose background is not the easiest to navigate. The charity offers individual help and support to young carers and their families by providing activities that help to build skills, maintain physical and mental health and wellbeing needed for their role as a young carer along with the chance to have fun and make new friends in similar circumstances. It was so nice to meet them all and tell them some of my Harry Potter stories and genuinely be around such positive energy. I do believe it’s vital to provide access to spaces like this around the country. Child development is key to providing a better society for tomorrow and should be one of the top priorities of any government. It should not be solely left to charities who have to fight for every penny they get. Most importantly we should be supporting the people who care about a better tomorrow by putting the work in today. I would like to thank all the people involved in the charity, especially Sharon Box who I understand always goes above and beyond to provide a variety of experiences in a safe and welcoming space for these youngsters to learn and grow. Lastly I would like to thank all the wonderful bright minds who weren’t afraid to ask difficult questions. They all brought joy and a lovely energy to my evening.
Wings for Life World Run I have the unbelievable honour to share with you the exciting announcement that recently I have been signed up as an ambassador for the Red Bull and Wings for Life World Run Wings for Life is a nonprofit foundation for spinal cord research. They are one of the largest donors and innovators working towards the goal of hopefully finding a cure for spinal cord injury. Sunday is the Wings for Life World Run event and I want to thank everybody who is taking part to help raise funds for the charity. It’s not too late to get involved if anybody wants to register for the run itself and even if you can’t make it this year then please hit the link in my bio to find out how you can get involved, whether that be a donation or taking part in future events. Finally, I would like to say a massive thank you to Red Bull itself. Not only is it a great honour to be working with you guys but back in 2009. I was also recipient of the Red Bull Taurus World Stunt Awards for injured stunt performers. They donated me a large sum of money which bought me my first wheelchair and also an adapted vehicle. To say Red Bull gave me wings would be an understatement. #WingsForLife #WingsForLifeWorldRun
I was fortunate enough to be a recent guest on the Sam Oldham podcast. As a former Olympic and British gymnast, Sam and me had plenty to talk about. We go into detail about our love for the sport of gymnastics and how we have both used the lessons learned in the gym and applied them to all aspects of our lives. I was actually in attendance watching Sam and the rest of the team achieve their bronze medal in the 2012 Olympic Games. It was a moment that solidified the generations of hard work and commitment done by Gymnasts and coaches across the whole country throughout the years. In our episode, me and Sam touch on many subjects, including mental health, the importance of discipline and of course, some of my stories from my time working on Harry Potter and as a Stuntman. Thank you again, Sam for coming out to my home and featuring me on your platform. I do hope any of your Regular listeners and hopefully some new ones that will tune in to hear our interview gain some perspective from the conversation we shared. The podcast is available on all podcast platforms and I hope you guys enjoy listening. #Podcast #Gymnastics #Stuntman #harrypotter #MentalHealth #MenTalking #GratitudeIsTheBestAttitude
The architecture of airports is always interesting. They are buildings of Cummings and goings ,sad goodbyes and happy reunions. It’s always a mishmash of energies and emotions . transitioning through them is normally sensory overload. I find it refreshing when you find an empty airport that is not bombarding you with strong smells bright lights and uncomfortable seating. I’m just leaving a holiday about to fly home to attend an award ceremony something I would not be doing if it wasn’t firstly for the NHS who saved my life 15 years ago when I broke my neck then secondly my dedicated family friends and caregivers who continued to support me every day. Finally, I have to be thankful for everybody involved in my documentary “David Holmes the boy who lived “it has been in the world since November last year and there is not a single day since it’s been released that I have not received a message from someone across Social media. I can wholeheartedly say not one message has been negative. Sharing my life has left positive impact for whoever has spent 90 minutes with me on screen. Thankfully, my legacy on film is not me Hitting that wall and breaking my neck 15 years ago. My legacy is my life, the way I choose to live and I want to do. One thing is for sure I am very thankful to still be alive. Maybe next time I get on an aeroplane, I have a slightly heavy award in my hand luggage and if not it doesn’t matter because I’ll be drinking the free champagne regardless. #BAFTA #DavidHolmesTheBoyWhoLived #SkyDocumentaries #FlyingHigh #nhs
I want to say a massive thank you to all these people and everybody around the world who run today’s Redbull race for life world run. Thank you, thank you thank you to Redbull and all the individuals and sponsors for today’s event. #WingsForLifeWorldRun.
Recently, I recorded an interview that will be on this afternoon’s Craig Charles Funk and Soul Show on BBC Radio 6. He had me on to celebrate Disability Pride Month as well as give him a song selection for the show. I suppose I can use this opportunity to promote my recently launched Spotify channel. For anybody who wants to follow me and listen to my music taste, I’ve been creating playlists for years and I’m proud to share them with you. I will obviously keep creating my playlists for public consumption – and be warned, I have a very eclectic taste. Music has always meant a lot to me and it is very much part of my self-care routine. I hope whoever follows me finds comfort joy and love in the songs I’m sharing.
