David Holmes Instagram – I had the pleasure of meeting these young wonderful human beings at the Young Carers Charity in Benfleet.
Young Carers are children and young people aged between 5-18 years old, who provide emotional, physical or practical care to someone who experiences poor physical or mental health or disability, usually in their own family. This charity specialises in creating a safe space for young minds whose background is not the easiest to navigate. The charity offers individual help and support to young carers and their families by providing activities that help to build skills, maintain physical and mental health and wellbeing needed for their role as a young carer along with the chance to have fun and make new friends in similar circumstances.
It was so nice to meet them all and tell them some of my Harry Potter stories and genuinely be around such positive energy.
I do believe it’s vital to provide access to spaces like this around the country. Child development is key to providing a better society for tomorrow and should be one of the top priorities of any government. It should not be solely left to charities who have to fight for every penny they get. Most importantly we should be supporting the people who care about a better tomorrow by putting the work in today.
I would like to thank all the people involved in the charity, especially Sharon Box who I understand always goes above and beyond to provide a variety of experiences in a safe and welcoming space for these youngsters to learn and grow.
