Semi-obligatory actor/trailer selfie. I’m jn Atlanta working on a phenomenal project about the lives of Martin Luther King and Malcolm X in which I play the long-serving South Carolina Senator, Strom Thurmond. What a heady, volatile, and moving time in America’s social and political history the mid-50s through the 60s was. If you haven’t, please seek out Taylor Branch’s tremendous three-part book series about America during the King years, starting with Volume 1 “Parting the Waters.”

McCall is in way deeper than she thought. @DonalFlogue guest starred in last night’s all-new episode and threw us a HUGE plot twist — anyone else as shook as we were? 🙋🏾♀️ #TheEqualizer
Making this walnut pop with Tried & True Original Wood Finish. The curl in this piece is fantastic. 10 years ago, I started a hardwood business @frisonloguehardwoods with Kevin Frison at my ranch in Oregon with a @woodmizer LT70 Scandinavian mill we bought from @mariahstrongin ‘s grandfather and a @nyledrykilns wood kiln. It’s been fits and starts trying to get back to the mountain between acting gigs, but now we’re flying (not that Kevin needed my amateurish help!) If you are a woodworker, we have the Pacific Northwest hardwood slabs you need to create your own pieces. Check out our website— we have oak, maple, elm, walnut, madrone, blue-stain pine, cedar, and doug fir. While we ship anywhere, I’ll also be doing dedicated LA runs in my truck bringing product with me. Because of Kevin’s company @frisontreeservice, we only use repurposed and salvaged hardwoods. Follow our tree planting venture starting in January here. #woodworking #woodmilling #nylesystems
Spent the weekend catching up with my #Vikings family. I’m so lucky and grateful to have met and worked with these incredible human beings.
This memory popped up from 12 years ago of my kids at our cabin in Oregon. I can’t say the time flew by. The three of us went through plenty in the past decade plus, but the trio is strong. I am so grateful for my kids and a zillion other things. I hope you all have a beautiful Thanksgiving wherever you are spending it– whether with family, friends, temporary friends, or even alone. I’ll be off on a job back east missing these homies and beautiful, majestic Oregon!
Getting script notes for my part on @theequalizercbs that airs this Sunday night on @cbstv. It was a blast working with @queenlatifah under the direction of @cheryldunye (and the rest of the incredibly talented cast and crew). Cheryl directed my little sister Karina 20 years ago in her stupendous feature “Stranger Inside” with @yolondaross_creator for HBO. It was good to be back in NYC.
Game camera footage Kevin just sent me of a couple of the amazing (and formidable) creatures living in my back yard in Oregon. I’ve had a handful of scary encounters with cougars and bears in the past twenty years, but usually I’m not aware they’re around (but always aware they are watching!).

Twenty-five years ago, on November 4, 1997, I spent the day in Beijing’s spectacular “Forbidden City.” My sister and I made friends with this man (who went by “Fred”) in Tiananman Square, and he became our de facto guide to China. Just the written history of China dates back almost 3500 years to the Shang Dynasty. The Zhou Dynasty is where the concept of the “Mandate of Heaven” comes from. Following the Spring and Autumn And Warring States period, Emperor Qin Shi Huang unified the country in 221 BC and gave Imperial China it’s name (from Qin). To understand China today, it’s critical to understand its long and deeply complex history and especially its (almost) unbroken chain of Dynastic Cycles. One out of every five people on the planet is Chinese. There are cities in China with the same population as Australia, a country (and continent) roughly the same size. In fact, China and the US are almost exactly the same size geographically, but there are five Chinese people for every American. The two places I visit most often in my dreams are my old pad in Tribeca I shared with @jessepooljesse and China. It was so different from anything I was used to.
Reuniting with my dear friend and old Viking enemy Jarl Borg @herr.harr (AKA Thorbjørn Harr) and sharing laughs with Linus Roache and @moe_dunford.
*sorry for the redundancy. This was a post on Facebook that reposted here! Building some cool pieces up at the workshop in Oregon. 10 years ago, I started Frison-Logue Hardwoods with Kevin Frison. Between me bouncing around for acting jobs and Kevin being busy with his tree service, it’s been fits and starts and a lot of work to get the mill in place, a kiln, the workshop built, and the process in flow. But now, we truly have it going on. For any craftspeople interested in working with hardwoods, we have a huge selection of oak, big leaf maple, walnut, and other slabs and tons of cedar, Doug fir, and blue-stained pine planking. We only use logs that have been salvaged for repurposing, most which would have been destined for firewood. Our goal is to protect the wood (through the process of kilning), which makes it possible to build pieces that will last centuries. Please check out our website FrisonLogueHardwoods.com to see what we have on hand in the mountains of Southern Oregon.

A serving board made from a block of madrone wood inspired by the design of traditional Japanese “Geta” wooden sandals. Making all kinds of things at the ranch in Oregon for @frisonloguehardwoods.

Heading home with a new @woodmizer slabmizer. The folks at Wood-Mizer Oregon couldn’t have been cooler. This poor @ramtrucks has been put through her paces.
Milling up a historic walnut log. This tree was in the Harry & David pear orchards andhad to be removed as a result of the terrible Alameda Fire in 2020. You can see evidence of the fire on the log.
