As a big fan of the “beautiful game”⚽️, it was exhilarating to finally catch up with MAIDAAN, a film about Indian football’s ‘Golden Generation’. Aside from the sense of pride this film instills about the incredible, little known history of this era (1950s- early 60s), what gratified even more, was the performance of old friend, Gajraj Rao @gajrajrao as the Bengali Sports Columnist, Roy Chowdhury. His incredible physical transformation, attention to linguistic and cultural nuance as well as maintaining the dignity and humanity of his otherwise ‘villain of the piece’ character, shows why he is amongst the elite actors of the Indian film Industry. His journey to the top of his trade is an example to all, of how persistence does indeed bear fruit. On a personal note, meeting Gajraj bhai again at @spokenfest in Mumbai, after some three decades, it was remarkable to see how his feet were still firmly planted in the ground. In a crowd of his fawning fans, his gracious acknowledgement and warmth were truly reassuring and extremely appreciated. शुभ मंगल ज़्यादा सावधान ,की आज चौथी सालगिरह है . कास्टिंग डायरेक्टर अनमोल आहूजा ने मई या जून 2019 में इस प्रोजेक्ट के सिलसिले में मुझे फ़ोन किया था ,कि फ़िल्म के डायरेक्टर हितेश मुझसे मिलना चाहते हैं ,लेकिन मैं एक और काम में उलझा हुआ था ,इसलिए ये मीटिंग हो नहीं पा रही थी .एक रोज़ नीना जी का फ़ोन आया कि वो एक नये डायरेक्टर से मिल कर आई हैं ,जिन्होंने कमाल की फ़िल्म लिखी है .नीना जी ने ये भी बताया कि फ़िल्म में एक मज़ेदार रोल के लिए ये लोग आपको कंसीडर कर रहे हैं ,फ़ोन आये तो कहानी ज़रूर सुनने जाइएगा . नीना जी हितेश की ही बात कर रही थीं. नीना जी की राय मेरे लिये बड़ी मायने रखती है ,दो -तीन रोज़ में ,मैं कहानी सुनने आनंद राय जी के दफ़्तर पहुँच गया .हितेश ग़ज़ब के किस्सेबाज़ निकले ,उनका कहानी सुनाने का अन्दाज़ बहुत ही सहज और निराला था .फ़िल्म नज़रों के सामने दिखने लगी … ग़ज़ब की कहानी ,शंकर त्रिपाठी का मज़ेदार किरदार ,आनंद राय जी का शानदार बैनर ,सबसे बढ़कर नीना जी और आयुष्मान ख़ुराना संग फिर से काम करने का मौक़ा ,बस और क्या चाहिए था ,तुरंत मैं इस फ़िल्म का हिस्सा बन गया . शुक्रिया नीना जी आपकी मौक़े पर दी गई सलाह का … शुक्रिया आनंद जी और हितेश ,मुझे शंकर त्रिपाठी के लायक़ समझने के लिए . इस फ़िल्म की लगभग पूरी शूटिंग बनारस में हुई ,और लाजवाब माहौल में हुई . मेहनत से काम हुआ लेकिन ठहाकों के बीच में . एक अल्हड़ मस्ती छाई रहती थी सेट पर ,जिसका श्रेय कप्तान हितेश के साथ फ़िल्म के नायक आयुष्मान को जाता है ,की उन्होंने माहौल को कभी बोझिल नहीं होने दिया . साथ ही नीना जी, सुनीता,पंखुड़ी,मानवी,जीतू,नीरज,मनुरिशी ने हर एक दिन ऐसा रंग जमाया कि ,इस फ़िल्म की शूटिंग का सफ़र सबके लिए ,हमेशा के लिए यादगार बन गया है. #4yearsofshubhmangalzyadasaavdhan #shubhmangalzyadasaavdhan @primevideoin @cypplofficial @aanandlrai @hiteshkewalya @kanupriyaaiyer @ayushmannk @neena_gupta @jitendrak1 @maanvigagroo @manurishichadha @sunita_rajwar @pankhuri313 @__.neerajsingh._ @ghantaghartalkies @castingbay
