“New Year, same old resolutions, right? Woke up to find my pals flexing their ‘six-packs’ on Instagram. Didn’t know we signed up for a fitness competition on Jan 1, but here we are! Embracing the spirit of camaraderie on this New Year’s Day! Joining the six-pack showcase with my dear friends. Cheers to a year filled with shared laughter and good times. Happy New Year, everyone!” @bajpayee.manoj @cyrus_broacha @whatcyrussays #happnewyear #sixpack #justforlaughs

Ad film presentation Day: Reach the studio by 11 am sharp, my associate producer reconfirmed. The day starts with stress – loads of it. The sun is working from home, as clouds have taken over. It’s raining non-stop. Stress is building up. Traffic is not moving. It’s jamming at DN Nagar, It’s jamming at Juhu Crossing, It’s jamming at Juhu Chaupati, It’s jamming near Khar Police Station. It’s 11 am. AP calls again, informs me that the senior client arrived at 10:59. More stress. My ETA is 6 minutes away. More rain, More traffic, More heartbeats. Cursing myself for spending 15-20 extra minutes in a gossip session with my wife over the morning cup of tea, Gossiping about last evening amidst the glittering stars and who’s who of the Mumbai film world at a movie screening. My wife was briefing me on who was wearing which designer, and the samosas were just right in size and crispiness. Remembered, I forgot one actress’s name… I do that quite often… don’t remember names. Stress increased, thinking about that actress… will she unfollow me on Instagram now? AP calls again, client and agency both waiting for me. More stress. Finally reached… it’s 11:07 am. Inside the presentation room, all faces are okay… happy. Presentation started, Heartbeat increased. A couple of viewings, Saw smiles in all eyes. Few more rounds, minor tweaks, Happiness in every peek. Selfie time, rain takes a pause, Back in the car, embrace the cause. Traffic jam, but now it’s fine, Stress dissolved, I unwind. Cheers to rain, cheers to jams, Cheers to life and all its plans. @ogilvyindia @hul.news @coderedfilms_india #advertising
#4yearsoflootcase … Lootcase was an uproarious joyride, overflowing with energy and laughter. It didn’t just leave me with memories that could make a statue laugh; it also introduced me to some truly unforgettable characters—both on and off-screen. I’ve known writer Kapil Sawant for what feels like forever, but this was my first wild escapade with Rajesh Krishnan, a director with enough crazy energy to light up a small city. And trust me, our bond is stronger than a double espresso shot! Our sound designer Lochan and producer Ameya were the bastions of sanity (or as sane as you can get in a comedy madhouse). Sanu Varghese, our visual wizard of a cinematographer, and Ratheesh, the art director who could turn a shoebox into a palace, added their own magic to this delightful circus. I even hit it off with my co-actors Ranvir Shorey and Vijay Raaz, the undisputed kings of deadpan humor. As for Rasika Dugal and Kunal Khemu, I didn’t share any scenes with them, but we had a blast promoting the movie. It’s like being in a rock band without ever rehearsing together, but we nailed it anyway! I had sky-high hopes that this film would fill theaters with laughter, but then the pandemic came in like the worst twist ending ever. The only silver lining? Since its release on Hotstar, it’s been tickling the funny bones of millions worldwide. One of the most surreal moments for me was a video call with Aamir Khan a few months after the release. For ten glorious minutes, Mr. Khan showered the film with praise—words I’ll treasure like gold. Thank you, Mr. Khan, for your generosity! Seriously, how incredible would it be if we got just a week’s run in theaters? Just a little taste of that live audience laughter! A huge thank you to @rajoosworld , Kapil Sawant, @roo_cha @foxstarstudios @disneyplushotstar @sodafilmsindia and the entire Lootcase team for making this a hilariously unforgettable journey! @kunalkemmu @ranvirshorey @rasikadugal @lochan.kanvinde @speedygonzalves @sanujohnvarughese @ratheesh_balakrishnan_poduval @aamirkhanproductions @saregama_official

“Today is the film wrap for Gajraj Rao” Hearing this announcement on set was an emotional rollercoaster. The last day of any project always tugs at my heart. While it’s incredibly satisfying to complete a project filled with wonderful memories, the next few weeks will be bittersweet as I miss all the familiar faces. I’ll miss our hardworking and passionate director, who has more tricks up his sleeve than a magician at a kids’ party to extract the exact performance from his actors. The agile and creatively charged assistant directors were like ninjas on set. The costume team, sprinting around like PT Usha, and the set designer with her team, who could spot a stray prop from a mile away, were incredible. The DOP’s battalion, always on their toes to match the director’s vision, were like a well-oiled machine. The sound team, with their booms and mics, capturing every tiny sound, and the vigilant producer’s team, ready to solve last-minute problems like a girl’s uncle at a wedding, were all indispensable. Thank you all for the incredible memories. I eagerly await the cast and crew screening in a few months. #gratitude #filmwrap
When I started directing ad films around 20 years ago, PPMs (pre-production meetings) with clients felt like board exams—nerve-wracking and intimidating. A few months into the game, I found myself across a table from a team of 7-8 agency and client members during a HUL meeting for a Brooke Bond Natural Care Tea ad. The PPM dragged on for almost four-five hours, and I was visibly flustered by the barrage of “out-of-syllabus” questions. During a tea break, a senior gentleman from HUL, Anil Gopalan sir, with a constant divine smile, took me aside and asked, “You look bothered.” I kept quiet. He continued, “Gajraj, we are on your side. These queries are coming because we are not filmmakers and are eager to understand how you will craft this film. Treat these PPMs as if your lawyers are doing mock drills with you before you reach in front of the judge. And the judge here is the audience, our consumers. Mr. Rao, we are partners, not enemies.” Anil Sir wasn’t patronizing a rookie ad filmmaker; he came across as genuine and honest, a caring partner. That small interaction in a corner of Ogilvy Bangalore’s office changed my entire perspective about PPMs with agencies or clients. After that day, I might have felt a little nervous before such meetings, but never scared or hassled. Thank you, Anil Sir, for that precious lesson. And yes, today’s PPM at HUL Mumbai went really well. Thank you, team HUL and Team Ogilvy, for the wonderful partnership over all these years. @hul.news #hindustanunilever @ogilvyindia @ogilvy #advertising @coderedfilms_india
