Gajraj Rao Instagram – #4yearsoflootcase … Lootcase was an uproarious joyride, overflowing with energy and laughter. It didn’t just leave me with memories that could make a statue laugh; it also introduced me to some truly unforgettable characters—both on and off-screen. I’ve known writer Kapil Sawant for what feels like forever, but this was my first wild escapade with Rajesh Krishnan, a director with enough crazy energy to light up a small city. And trust me, our bond is stronger than a double espresso shot!
Our sound designer Lochan and producer Ameya were the bastions of sanity (or as sane as you can get in a comedy madhouse). Sanu Varghese, our visual wizard of a cinematographer, and Ratheesh, the art director who could turn a shoebox into a palace, added their own magic to this delightful circus. I even hit it off with my co-actors Ranvir Shorey and Vijay Raaz, the undisputed kings of deadpan humor.
As for Rasika Dugal and Kunal Khemu, I didn’t share any scenes with them, but we had a blast promoting the movie. It’s like being in a rock band without ever rehearsing together, but we nailed it anyway!
I had sky-high hopes that this film would fill theaters with laughter, but then the pandemic came in like the worst twist ending ever. The only silver lining? Since its release on Hotstar, it’s been tickling the funny bones of millions worldwide. One of the most surreal moments for me was a video call with Aamir Khan a few months after the release. For ten glorious minutes, Mr. Khan showered the film with praise—words I’ll treasure like gold. Thank you, Mr. Khan, for your generosity!
Seriously, how incredible would it be if we got just a week’s run in theaters? Just a little taste of that live audience laughter!
