Well we all made it! 870 miles from Caen to Nice It has been epic, beautiful, exhausting and such fun. I thoroughly recommend a tour like this. Our guides Isabel, Emma and John have been excellent and looked after us and our bikes brilliantly. Special mention to Christine who I rode with most of the way who made me laugh while she just churns the pedals at half my cadence. Oh and don’t forget chamois cream

I climbed Mont Ventoux 30 years ago I can’t remember it being this hard! 3hr 40mins climbing with kilometre markers taunting me with the torture to come. Trust me over 19km when the gradient goes into double figures it gets very serious. I picked up when the summit came into view and cried with relief when I reached the top. Ventoux lived up to it’s name very cold and windy descending down the other side into lavender fields

Weirdly normal now to cycle 124km over hot windy France. Rolling through charming little towns and dramatic gorges but it’s getting busier with more arsehole drivers. A thing seems to be influensters posing in fields of lavender. Such a great trip for body and soul.

Day 13 and our last big climb into the spectacular Gorges du Verdon. Listened to political podcasts as I pedalled up and up on this important day (yes I did my postal vote) One of my most beautiful days on a bike, vertiginous drops, amazing vistas on every corner, wheeling vultures then a well earned blow out lunch

Day 10 and I’m feeling stronger. Amazing day pedalling through high gorges, past goats, past 1000km on this trip. Mont Ventoux brooding on the horizon. We hope to climb the Mount Fuji of cycling tomorrow but the Mistral is blowing so it might not be safe. Staying in lovely medieval hilltop town Vaison La Romaine
