Jim Sturgess Instagram – Anyone there ? Anyone listening ? Who knows ?… yesterday I released a new song that I wrote called ‘The Makeshift Numbers’ – a very personal song about a difficult time. A moment that I knew I’d write about one day but just didn’t know when.
I had tried to step away from music altogether for a period of my life. Carelessly believing that I could fully turn my back on it and focus on other things.. and I was pretty successful to a point.
Years and tears had passed. Until one day I moved into a new home. My piano, once banished to the dark corner of a room I never dared enter, covered in old clothes and piled up boxes, had now taken centre stage in a room with a window and bathed in sunlight. A room I now had to walk past often.
I would feel it stare at me. Look at me. Flirt with me until I caved.
Eventually after some weak defiance I sat down. Not really expecting much. We had a lot of making up to do. But as I sat down and I put fingers to keys, this song spilled out instantaneously.
I’ve heard musicians talk about this kind of thing in the past and had never really believed it to be true. But the song indeed wrote itself. I was merely just there.
It happened in a matter of moments and I’m now giving it to you.. a song that needed to be written…THE MAKESHIFT NUMBERS.
