I love Miami, people!! I love to start my day with a café con leche. I love the ventanitas throughout the city. And I love to have a glass of wine and watch the Miami sunset, particularly with pastelones on the beach. When I was a boy, my mom would make tortilla de patatas all the time, slicing the potatoes thin, cooking them in olive oil until they got soft in the center and crispy golden brown around the edges, combining them with warm eggs in the pan…so good and comforting. Growing up, my family would go to the mountains outside Barcelona on Sundays and invite our friends to join us. My dad would build a fire and set up a big paella pan to feed everyone who came. In these moments, my dad taught me one of the most important lessons of my life: if more people join the party, just throw another handful of rice in the pan. Maybe that’s why I still love roasting a whole lamb or grilling a whole fish. It brings me back to those days, surrounded by family and friends, cooking for anyone who showed up. WCK mobilized across the Caribbean hours after Hurricane Beryl made landfall. Over the past week, we have provided thousands of hot meals and sandwiches, hundreds of cases of water, and as much fresh fruit as we can find to the hardest hit islands. Our teams have been traveling most efficiently by helicopter, but a few choppy, rolling boat rides have helped us get aid to islands too. #ChefsForTheCaribbean
