On top of the drums, several men sit astride, striking them with long sticks as if delivering the sound to the gods. In a video I once saw, the drums seemed rather chaotic and didn’t leave a good impression, but seeing them in person is a completely different experience. The rhythm of the drums and the melody of the festival music are both majestic and somehow very calming. It cools the summer evening. Gradually enveloped by the twilight, it is truly beautiful. Slowly, slowly, they draw near. The tractors pulling the drums… Well, this too is a real charm that still remains in rural villages. 😊 In the past, it was probably oxen. As night falls completely, the procession arrives at the shrine. Drawn by the lights beyond the torii gate, we enter… It’s truly mystical… It feels like wandering into a dream. It really feels like a world straight out of a Studio Ghibli film. The best summer evening. Definitely worth experiencing at least once.
