Last November, I announced my intention to step down as Prime Minister this year. I will relinquish my role as Prime Minister on 15 May 2024 and DPM @lawrencewongst will be sworn in as the next Prime Minister on the same day. For any country, a leadership transition is a significant moment. Lawrence and the 4G team have worked hard to gain the people’s trust, notably during the pandemic. Through the Forward Singapore exercise, they have worked with many Singaporeans to refresh our social compact and develop the national agenda for a new generation. The 4G team are committed to keeping Singapore working well and moving ahead. These will always be top priorities for the government. I ask all Singaporeans to give Lawrence and his team your full support, and work with them to create a brighter future for Singapore. – LHL (Photo by me)
12 years ago on this day, I started my social media journey with my very first post on Facebook. It has been a fun and rewarding adventure, and I have been happy to share with you some of the things I do and am interested in. Many of you have told me you enjoy my #jalanjalan photos. Here are some of my unreleased photos taken over the years, both in Singapore and overseas. I hope you enjoy them as much as I did taking them! To mark this anniversary on social media on a light-hearted note, my team has curated a sticker pack of me 😄. I’ll be on leave till 30 June. Looking forward to spending time with family, and catching up on my reading. The school holidays are ending soon. I hope you’ve taken time to go on outings as a family. If you want to refresh your mind and body, and have fun exploring one of our most beautiful green spaces, head to the Singapore Botanic Gardens! Made several trips recently to wander along the familiar paths and test out a different camera 😄– LHL (Photos by me)

Was looking forward to meeting @apple CEO Tim Cook today but unfortunately I’ve caught a flu bug and had to cry off (I tested negative for COVID-19 and am working from home, but am otherwise fine). Apple is expanding their campus in Ang Mo Kio, which will create more jobs and spur innovation. Apple opened its first facility here over 40 years ago, manufacturing the Apple II series computers. I visited it in 1985, and later officiated the opening of their new building in 1988. Glad that Singapore is now a regional hub for Apple, and home to three of their retail stores. I look forward to the completion of the expanded campus! – LHL (Apple Store at Marina Bay. / Photo by me)
My thanks to President @jokowi for hosting my delegation and me to the Singapore-Indonesia Leaders’ Retreat in Bogor today. This was our seventh and final Retreat together, as both of us will soon be stepping down from our respective roles. President Jokowi and I reviewed the excellent progress in bilateral relations over the past decade. One major achievement was the Expanded Framework Agreements on airspace, defence and extradition that came into force in March 2024. Today our ministers signed an MOU on mangrove ecosystems, and a joint update on defence cooperation. We also agreed to step up cooperation in new and emerging areas such as the digital economy, sustainability and healthcare. Indonesia is our largest neighbour and the largest economy in @asean. Its prosperity and stability will uplift and benefit the rest of the region. Singapore will strengthen our ties with Indonesia in the spirit of mutual benefit and respect. I thank President Jokowi for his leadership and his commitment to Indonesia’s ties with Singapore. I have deeply appreciated working with him to strengthen trust and cooperation between our countries, and I wish him the very best. I am confident that the next generation of Singapore and Indonesia’s leaders will take the bilateral relationship to even greater heights. – LHL (PMO Video by Leonard Leong and Chua Fang En)
Happy to welcome New Zealand PM @christopherluxon on his first official visit to Singapore. PM Luxon and I reaffirmed our excellent bilateral relations. This is the fifth year of the Singapore-New Zealand Enhanced Partnership (EP). We’ve made good progress and are expanding the EP with a new pillar on Supply Chains and Connectivity, to keep our economies connected amidst an increasingly volatile global situation. Next year will be the 60th anniversary of our diplomatic relations. PM Luxon and I agreed we should elevate our EP to further explore initiatives such as sustainable aviation, green economy and supply chains. I look forward to taking our bilateral ties to greater heights and wish PM Luxon a fruitful stay in Singapore. 🇸🇬🇳🇿– LHL (PMO Video by Koh Yong Sheng)
Last month, a fire broke out at a coffeeshop in Ang Mo Kio Ave 10. @myscdf and @singaporepoliceforce responded, put the fire out and evacuated the residents upstairs. Very fortunately no one was seriously injured, though the premises were heavily damaged. These incidents remind us to be ready, and to know how to respond when the unexpected happens. At Teck Ghee’s Community Resilience Day, our grassroots leaders engaged residents and helped prepare them for situations – such as fires or medical emergencies. Glad to see many residents participating and learning useful skills. – LHL (PMO Video by Anthony Chia)
Thank you to the @singaporepoliceforce for hosting me to a dining-in at the Senior Police Officers’ Mess last night! I last attended an SPF dining-in 10 years ago in 2014. Back then, I spoke about the need to maintain the highest standards of integrity, commitment, and professionalism, as well as to continue investing in technology to deal with the latest threats. Glad that the SPF has exceeded my expectations in the years since then. According to recent surveys, Singaporean’s level of trust in the police is among the highest in the world. This is a remarkable achievement. I would like to express my appreciation to all SPF officers, past and present, for their hard work, dedication, vigilance, and loyalty. Even though the future is uncertain and threats continue to evolve, I have full confidence in our police force and I believe that the SPF will continue climbing to greater heights in the future. – LHL (PMO Video by Anthony Chia)
Looking forward to reconnecting in Singapore this week. New Zealand and Singapore are close and long-standing friends. There is much more we can do together.
Happy to welcome Indonesian Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investments @luhut.pandjaitan to the Istana today. Pak Luhut was Indonesia’s Ambassador to Singapore from 1999 to 2000. He played an important role in the conclusion of the Expanded Framework Agreements covering airspace, defence and extradition, which entered into force in March 2024. We are working closely with his office on new and emerging areas of cooperation, such as in healthcare, renewable energy and sustainability. These will generate new opportunities for Singapore and Indonesia, and deepen our interdependence. I thanked Pak Luhut for his contributions to and support for bilateral relations over the years, and assured him Singapore would continue to deepen the relationship. Wishing Pak Luhut a fruitful visit to Singapore! – LHL (MCI Photo by Chwee)
Today, the Sikhs celebrate Vesakhi. The Tamils celebrate Puthandu tomorrow. Other Indian ethnic communities such as the Bengalis and Malayalees also celebrate their respective New Years around this time. The @centralsikhgurdwaraboard, @indianheritage_sg and @officiallishasg have organised events to mark this festive period. Different communities have celebrated and commemorated multiple religious events in the past few weeks, reflecting our unique and diverse multiracial and multireligious society. Do take time to learn more about these festivals, and join in if friends or neighbours invite you to celebrate with them. This is the Singaporean way! I wish all who are celebrating a joyous and prosperous year ahead! – LHL ([Top] Central Sikh Temple; [Bottom] Sri Srinivasa Perumal Temple. / MCI Photo by Lim Sin Thai)
Today is #EarthDay. First held in 1970 in the US, it has become a global event for the environmental movement. This year’s theme, “Planet vs. Plastics”, calls for reducing plastic waste and consumption. At the @unitednations, countries are working on a legally binding treaty to end plastic pollution. Expected to launch this year, this will be a significant step towards a zero waste future. As an island-state, Singapore is especially vulnerable to climate change. We are committed to building a sustainable future. Our Zero Waste Masterplan targets to reduce by 30% the amount of waste sent to landfill per capita by 2030. Last year, we implemented the disposable carrier bag charge. We are also studying ways to reduce packaging waste. We must all play our parts – avoiding single-use plastics, opting for reusable alternatives, and recycling electronic waste. Let’s safeguard our planet for our future generations! 🌎– LHL (Photo by me)
Had good meetings with unionists over the past two days, ahead of the May Day Rally. Happy to find them cautiously optimistic about the labour market. We also discussed how recent developments in other parts of the world and in their sectors are affecting workers and businesses, and the importance of staying competitive and resilient. I also thank them for their heartwarming wishes following my leadership transition announcement. The government will continue to work closely with our tripartite partners to improve the lives of workers and families. Singapore will be in good hands under the 4G team. – LHL (MCI Photo by Lim Sin Thai and Chwee)
Glad to receive a bipartisan US Congressional delegation led by House Financial Services Committee Chair @reppatrickmchenry at the Istana today. We had a useful exchange of views on international and regional developments. The continued support by Congress is important for the strong partnership between Singapore and the US. It is 20 years since the US-Singapore FTA entered into force, after it was ratified by Congress in 2003. The FTA has underpinned our robust economic ties, benefitted both our economies, and made us a gateway for US companies to the region. I welcome the US’ sustained engagement in Southeast Asia, and hope the delegation had a fruitful stay in Singapore. – LHL (PMO Photo)
