I wanted to do something elaborate – like stitch together the audio of every interview I’ve done with Jürgen Klopp since 2015 – as a tribute post and a reminder of what he said and inherited when he joined Liverpool to how he breathed life into the club, and the incredible legacy he now leaves behind. But nothing feels good enough, big enough or epic enough to capture how he changed not just a football institution, but millions of lives – including mine. So this is a simple but enormous professional and personal THANK YOU. I’ve spent a decade working in England, a large portion of it covering Jürgen’s transformation of Liverpool from when it was just a hashtag (#Kloppforthekop) to working on some of the most unbelievable football games in history 🤯 I grew as a journalist; long-form specials, a debut book, learning to articulate situations you couldn’t picture in your wildest dreams that were suddenly unfolding before your eyes (Corner Taken Quickly, yes you!). It was always a pleasure – even when he was annoyed by a question, an article or opinion 😅 The professional experiences will stay with me forever. And then there are the personal lessons that are tattooed to my mind: setbacks are not failure, it is information to use and help you go again, to go better and harder. Do not be obsessed with the end result; the magic is really in the journey – the shared memories, the relationships along the way, scaling the obstacles. If there is a chance, if there is belief, if there is the willingness to work, then anything is possible… I know this is an industry that is obsessed with measuring greatness purely by medals and trophies but there is no piece of silverware that tells the story of how a normal man made an extraordinary difference to a club, a city, a sport and to millions around the world. Danke @kloppo ❤️

8am start to 8pm finish was worth it 💫 An FA Cup final performance from Manchester United that wasn’t predicted and against all odds. It was near perfect – the mix of aggression and defensive organisation was superb. The players drowned out the noise of the build up and upped the volume of their supporters inside the stadium. Raphael Varane… what a showing to sign off with – utterly immense! Particularly pleased for Erik ten Hag.
