A bit like music, it takes me a little while to figure out what I really want to say, especially on the internet but here is my 2024 mantra. I really appreciate seeing the messages from people saying they’re looking forward to hearing new music. It means so much. It feels in my bones that that time is nearly here. Music has been flowing. This picture was taken at one of the first times I got to support Alabama shakes back in 2012. It’s of myself, Brittany and the legend that is Bill Withers!!!! 😭😭😭😭. I’d just started playing my first album live in America which was in itself a dream come true. Listening to Brittany sing every night was a dream. And then out of the blue, just after I’d finished singing and Brittany was getting ready to go on. The man himself, Mr Bill Withers walks back stage and we get to talk hear the funniest stories about music, his band, England. I remember he just had everyone laughing out loud the whole time. We were in awe at being in the presence of in my opinion one of the greatest songwriters of all time. I knew hearing Brittany each night that we were hearing one of the best voices about to emerge. I was so inspired. It feels awesome to be able to get back on the road with Brittany. The world has lost Bill in the flesh but we still have his music. I am so excited to announce a co-headline tour with my friend Michael Kiwanuka where we will be hitting some of my favorite venues across the country in the fall. Michael and I started this journey at almost the same time in 2011 and it has been so amazing to follow his growth as an artist. I can’t wait to watch his set and also see the opener, Yasmin Williams, I’m such a fan of both! Tickets are on sale this Friday at 10am local! Some of my favourite 16mm footage I’ve ever filmed. The heavens opened during @michaelkiwanuka set at Lowlands Festival but I was there to capture it 🤘 I love the footage because it looks like it’s straight out of the 60s Woodstock film. ☮️
